I believe that Prince Charles said that. Apparently, Charles Spencer told other people (probably his two sisters and mother) after the phone conversation so if his two sisters corroborated it that would add weight to it. I do think that people would be more forgiving of Charles Spencer if he were to say that all or most of the profits of the book were being donated to charity.

People use slurs against him for much the same behaviours as Diana exhibited, mentally unstable, poor history of relationships, unfaithfullness, oversharing. Both given a life they may not have chosen in any other context.

Charles Spencer is the best poster boy for the abolition of hereditary titles / stately piles et al that I can think of.

He's a deeply disturbed individual who seems to have a tenuous grasp of reality. His actual claim to any fame is solely because of Diana but,apparently, they were estranged when she died. No one would look twice at him in any other situation. Nor publish or read his books.
