AIBU to be worried about rising fuel and energy costs this winter?

I don't think wanting to keep warm is fashionable. It's a human right and we shouldn't be choosing between eating and heating. Some people really don't understand how others are struggling because they're not

As a cost saving measure, I find my heated blanket really efficient. It costs pennies to run and means I don’t need the heating on anywhere near as much on an evening.

That’s probably part of the plan. Keep the plebs too poor, too frightened and too and weak to resist.

Fashionable? The gas, and electricity prices going up constantly, affect everybody. I dread to think how many children will be suffering from living in cold homes over the winter period, due to parents needing to ration the heat, due to cost. I hope that some real help is forthcoming, for them. The least the Government could have done, was to do something about the standing charges that people have to pay, every single day!

They are really good if you work from home as you can just heat the one room where you are working. We got one last winter and it definitely reduced the amount of time I put the heating on.

People do protest about plenty though. Maybe it’s not fashionable enough.

A lot of people just haven't got the time to protest. We're working every hour god sends to pay the bills. In addition, it costs money to travel to the protests.

What did the British public get instead? Just an insult to their intelligence. A public inquiry into Covid, where the powers that be, could not recall, or remember anything of any worth, and then they go off into the sunset, doing their talking circuit, which enriches them even more. They do not give a damn, unless it is to make them more money. Did Sunak not say something about being serious about getting the money back from Michelle Mone, for the crappy PPE. Yeah, right.

What do you want him to say? Anybody who has a faint grasp of what is going on, in the World, knows that hard times are ahead, for many people. I am interested in actions, not measly words, that are of no help to me whatsoever.

I think half are too worried to be protesting and the other half are still enjoying Tik Tok videos and vibes from a PM who hasn’t mentioned anything yet about what’s to come.

It’s time we were doing this. Bring it on, we need to show how angry we are. And I think we should have protested lockdown being dragged out for month after month, and we should have stormed parliament when Partygate came to light.

Mine is due a MOT in a couple of months. I know it's going to need two new tyres soon and I'm dreading them finding anything else.

It's a 16 year old car, I can't afford to replace it and I live rurally. The bus service is infrequent and we're the first to get cut off if buses get cancelled due to driver sickness, bad weather etc. I can't rely on the bus to get to work.

Yes I need to get a super mini asap really. I'm pretty time poor. Unfortunately with four kids, even though we really all go out together now, I still need a big car to drop eldest at uni. I think it's still going work out cheaper to buy a tiny car and keep the zafira. I'd still need to drive the zafira to stop it seizing up. Ds said hire a van but would still have the odd airport run and soon two at uni.

I'm in the same boat. My old car is due an MOT next month...God knows what I'll do if it fails. I can't use public transport as (a) most of my customers are rural and (b) I have to lug my cleaning stuff around with me.

British people seem to put up with a lot. It is a shame that all the protests happening at the moment, are not focused in the right direction, and towards the right people, imo. Meanwhile people are getting poorer, and poorer, gas, and electric prices go through the roof, where are the protests about those issues?

So many are living paycheque to paycheque to cover essentials and there’s no give for an emergency or something unexpected. Things surely can’t go on like this . If we were French we’d be barricading the roads with tractors .

Everything has gone up a lot quicker than my wages.

At the moment I'm just existing. I can cover the essential bills, keep the house warm, have food and can afford to drive to work.

All the nice things have already gone - no days out, don't socialise anymore, TV and music subscriptions cancelled, no meals out or takeaways and so on. Weekends are just spent at home or on free stuff like walking outside.

I don't know where I can cut back further as prices rise even further. If something major happens like the boiler breaks down or the car breaks down, then I'm basically screwed.

I don’t think you’re unreasonable - there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

We have an electric car, so fuel prices don’t directly impact us, but the knock on effect on food costs etc obviously will.

Our gas/electric tariff is pretty good though - it’s an EV one, so all electricity is discounted between 11-5am (8p per kWh I believe). Daytime rate is slightly more expensive than it was on a normal tariff, to offset the cheaper overnight rate, but we’re out at work all day, and then we have 4 hours of half price energy at times of our choosing on the weekends. I tend to set the washing machine when I go to bed at 11, then hang it on the line or the heated airer in the morning and use the tumble dryer on the weekends for towels and bedding etc when it’s half price.

We pay around £150 per month for gas and electric in a 3 bed house, which includes the car charging, so it’s not too awful but it shouldn’t require that level of maths gymnastics to keep it under control!!

It’ll be pricey but I’m not worried about affording it luckily. Thanks Trump you complete prick.

Yanbu. It is a rubbish time to be a worker in this country. All taxes and costs. What's the point of working?

I think I’d be looking to work closer to home , but I’m one that thinks the government want drivers off the road , 20mph , congestion charges , low E zones , toll booths, fines , car tax etc etc . More and more to punish drivers . I mean our local motorway has had 50mph zones for years under the guise of
‘ roadworks ‘ .
