To buy a dry robe as a winter coat?!

I've got a Regatta coat that is long and cosy with a hood. Can't remember what it was called though! Despite being a Goth, I got one in cream, because of walking to and from work in the dark and having to cross a busy road with no traffic lights.

I think you should get one and my logic is as follows: People still carry on wearing them even though they look unwieldy and they know about the 'wanker' reputation, so surely they must work?

I also recommend Mountain Warehouse, it was the only place I found an affordable, warm, truly waterproof coat for winter. I actually buy a lot of stuff from there and never regretted any of it.

I'm currently looking for a coat with the same sort of qualities. I live on the coast in Cumbria, so very windy, wet and cold in the autumn and winter! My husband and both (adult) kids have dry robes but they use them for swimming in the sea. They're not waterproof (I acknowledge that the one you've posted says it is though) but also the design of them means they're very "flappy" and walking in the wind can be quite difficult so I wouldn't consider it from that point of view. One that I am seriously considering is The Windermere from Cotton Traders. Reduced to £70 or £80 depending on the length. Waterproof, long and slightly padded.

You will also need a Jaecoo with a TentBox on the roof.

They are so hated because their purpose is to change in - from the sea or any outside body of water I guess.
on one hand, would you walk from your car to Tesco in a wetsuit just because it was raining? Or wear a dressing gown out and about because it’s a little chilly?
on the other - Uggs were originally made for surfers to pop on after getting out the sea, and they’ve evolved.

I do think it’s possible to get an actual coat for around the same price point that does the same thing

Look for the merrel long puffer coat. Mine is amazing and warm but it’s for sub zero rather than wet, it’s only shower proof. You can often find them on Vinted and eBay. If you want new then Columbia do a long version. Tonnes of long puffers on Atos etc but if you want warm you need Down in it. Also the craghoppers one is down from 200 to 140 on Blacks site right now.

Not ugly, it's quite stylish apart from the branding on the back. Ypu might be able to cover that up with felt tip pen in the main coat colour. I wear mine around town.

The model in the OP isn't even wearing it properly. Uncuff those sleeves and do the zip up and it's a big brown sack.

I bought a massive bench coat from the local rugby club to stand on the sidelines during the winter. It's brilliant. Nearly reaches the floor, water proof, hood. Massive pockets!

Cost £103. Worth every penny. I layer up underneath it because I'm mostly static, but it would still be warm enough without layers if walking about.

Really dont care about looking like the Michelin man!

Could someone recommend a long (not ankle long) thick coat with a hood, pockets (seen many coats without these) for me 5ft 8, size 20 and got bloaty belly

they’re twatty ugly things - I have family and friends in Cornwall who wouldn’t be seen dead in them. It’s bad enough seeing holiday makers wearing them paired up
with Crocs.

I got an equidry couple of years ago because I have horses and was sick of spending endless months in the pouring rain in coats that let water in or didnt cover my legs so I was always soaked. Its been a life saver one of the best things ive ever bought. Even when it was minus zero out i only needed a t shirt on underneath otherwise id end up sweating. Its filthy now and I dont give a flying fuck what I look like when I go the shops in it after ive been up the yard. Im warm and dry and thats all I care about

I actually ordered six different coats for rainwear last year before settling on the regatta. It's definitely no beauty and hood is pretty rubbish but it was the only one, for five foot two me, which wasn't too long or with gorilla arms. So many suggestions posted above are either crazy expensive or shorter coats which is pointless as wet legs are horrible.

I'm in the SW too and agree on the relentless rain!

Dry robes of various brands were a staple on the school run last winter, I'm seriously considering getting one.

I have an Element Karbon one. It's very warm, keeps me bone dry and has loads of pockets which are big enough to put dog leads, poo bags, balls etc in when walking the dog.

I don't give a single shite who thinks I look a twat because I'm wearing something practical for a practical task and I'm not out to impress anyone!
