To buy a dry robe as a winter coat?!

Just brought one on Amazon for walking to the lesiure Centre for swimming and Aqua aerobics when the weather turns. It was £40 and if I dont like it I can just return it in Asdas.

i have a similar one which I use for a work. I work in an outdoors early years setting and it gets bloody cold, I layer up underneath it and it keeps me warm and dry when out in the garden with the children.

i sometimes wear it after work to pop into the supermarket, I don’t give a shit what anyone thinks.

@Featherhorn yes, very, it’s my winter coat, far too warm for May-October. It’s a substantial and well constructed piece of clothing.

i love my waterproof from Costco. Maybe not the most stylish but totally waterproof, warm lined, really good hood and long enough to go below the top of wellies (I’m not very tall) so I’m bone dry when I get back. Can’t say the same for the dog.

I got a Didriksons parka in the sale last year, cheaper than a full price dry
robe and I think it’s ruined me for any other coat now 😅

I use it for actual swimming. The Regatta one is more than adequate.

It doesn't put me off because people make fun of others. I call myself a dry robe wanker. Happy to enjoy the benefits of swimming in a lake every week, if people want to mock me that's their problem.

I don’t particularly like the style, but they are so practical. I use mine on the school run. They are warm and waterproof that’s all I really care about, couldn’t care less if anyone else liked it.

My DS has one for school and it’s great. It rains here all the time and they play out whatever the weather so I know he’s going to be dry and warm.

YANBU to buy a drying robe. YABU to buy a crap one. You need Red Equipment, Equidry or similar. I have a Red Equipment one and it is excellent.

Well I live here now and it's both the mildest and wettest climate in the UK I have lived in due to being Oceanic.
Yorkshire and the NE are colder but drier.

OP, I'd never heard of the dry robe before now, can't see anything wrong with it, if you like it, get it.

I'm also on the lookout for the perfect winter coat, so thanks for all the previous recommendations.

Wear it if you like it! Why not. The whole hoo-haa about them reminds me of Ugg boots - yes, they are ugly and wanky - but I have a pair because they are so bloody comfortable! I mean, have you ever tried Ugg boots on - they are like heaven for your feet.

Just dont get a colourful one, they look awful. Get a black or brown one.

I’ve had a dry robe for 6 years. Yes, it’s not remotely stylish but I don’t care. It’s a brilliant coat, warm, dry, covers everything and keeps me warm.

DH got a black one from tesco. He does look like a tit but it's warm and waterproof. I have worn it to take the dog out

There’s a Facebook page called Dry Robe wankers. People post photos of other people that they see wearing dryrobes. They get mocked even more if they are also wearing Crocs. That would put me off ever buying one.

I have this exact one for watching my kid play sports in the rain! The hood is terribly short. Doesn’t stay up ! I end up with a golf umbrella up which defeats the purpose.

I don’t like the writing on the back of that one.

I live on the coast and the weather here is mostly wet and windy in the winter. My dog gets walked at least a couple of times a day and i got fed up with water running down my legs in driving rain as the water would get in via the pockets of my coats. So I opted for a Delta Roam (?) I love it..I probably look a bit twatty but I don't care it is wind/water proof, and keeps me warm.

I have two words.

I walk my dogs at least twice a day and there's a few toilet trips in between.
It's rained torrentially here for a week and every coat I've worn is sopping wet.Short raincoats leave me soaking from the knees down and I've been changing clothes up to 3 times a day.My coats are currently in the tumble dryer and 2 of them are dripping wet in the utility after being re proofed because they failed miserably in the rain..As a result I've given in and bought a dry robe which I'm impatiently waiting to arrive.
You have to dress for the weather and it's a poor economy to do otherwise, during the week I started to wonder how farmers coped with this weather.
Blundstones, dubarry boots and woollen socks have sorted out my feet but you have to have a well performing coat regardless of how it looks.
