To buy a dry robe as a winter coat?!

I live in the south west. From October to March, our weather is 99% driving rain and howling wind. I’ve tried over the years to find a decent winter coat that keeps me warm and dry. I’ve found a few that work somewhat, including a lovely M&S rain jacket, but it’s a bit thin.

im considering just biting the bullet and buying a big waterproof changing coat from regatta and being cosy.

But does it look a bit wanky?! Is it okay?!

I've got one for sorting the ducks in winter as they get so muddy. It's a Regatta one and brilliant for what I need. The ducks don't care how I keep dry and warm!

If a dry robe is off the charts where can I find a good coat?! It needs a hood!

The Equestrian market has a number of similar coats designed for riding instructors standing out teaching in all weathers. They are a bit less voluminous!

My very stylish DS lives in the same part of UK and she bought one to use for dog walking. She thinks it’s a good idea so it’s good enough for me.

I work in primary schools on windy rain-swept Dartmoor. One of my colleagues does all her winter playground duties in a massive dryrobe and she is the warmest and driest of all of us! I say go for practicality over looks.

(Speaking as someone who wears a massive thermal neck-warmer on playground duty in midwinter to keep the wind/rain from going down my neck...)

Look on sports pursuit website for waterproof jackets. They sell end of line stock.
See what they have, and then Google reviews of them to see if they are decent - you want genuine hiking gear, like certain ranges in Rab, Patagonia, marmot, Berghaus etc, not fashion brands or fashion versions.
Although they're only waist length I got a waterproof rab softshell jacket and a thin fleecy layer to wear underneath it. Really warm, genuinely waterproof. Total was around £150 and they've lasted years.

I live in NW England and have a Beachbum one that I wear for going to watch the football during the cold, wet and windy Winter months.

It’s certainly not the epitome of elegance or style, but frankly when it’s a freezing cold Tuesday night in February and I’m sat in my seat in the Hill Dickinson, with driving rain and the wind blustering straight off the Royal Blue Mersey, all I care about is whether the coat keeps me warm and dry. No, not really, that was an exaggeration. I just think it's weird to consult a bunch of strangers over the choice of a garment and that the poll question as to whether choosing a particular garment could be deemed "unreasonable" is quite ludicrous. The only way reasonableness would come into it would be if the price were way out of OP's budget, but they have not mentioned their budget, as far as I noticed.

I have a dupe one that cost me £90 from Amazon that I wear to walk the dog in the winter. I could not give a shiny shit what I look like or what anybody thinks, it’s one of the best purchases I ever made. It really does keep you dry and warm.

People who spend their energy looking at and judging other people’s coat choices seriously need to get a life.

I’ve got two Oodie coats that are essentially the same thing. Warmest things I own. I wear them all through the winter. They are absolutely not the most flattering things but they are so very warm, deep pockets and warm hoods.

I have a couple for outdoor swimming.

Regatta for me was a waste of money as the zip is really hit and miss.

I got 1 from Red, thats more fitted and love that its one that I can also use for dog walks etc in the rain as it doesn't have the bulk to it.
