Just in here cause not sure where to put it, why do people put Doctors or Engineer on every news post I seem to read comment section, seems a strange thing to write so genuinely curious realise it's likely a dig at immigration but why refer to them as such cant imagine the people that are being referred about are actually so it seems a bit disrespectful to our doctors and engineers.

Yes, I get that. But I would imagine when doctors or engineers see that sort of rubbish for many their first thought might be "what a load of xenophobic tripe" rather than "how disrespectful to me".

Maybe a doctor or engineer mumsnetter might see this thread and give their opinion. I would be interested.

We were told those arriving by boat were "Doctors and Engineers"

Not offended in the slightest. I'm glad awareness of the crimes against the indigenous population are brought to light, even if it is by commenting doctors and engineers

Because if you get into a discussion with anyone who supports unfettered immigration, you get tge argument that a lot of the asylum seekers are in fact highly qualified. When you do drill down on that they may have some form of qualification, but not one that is recognised by this country or any other western country

Plus surely we should be helping these people stay in their own country to build its infrastructure.

Thank you, I asked a genuine question, as I find it very odd the quotation. Our refers to our as in any doctor or engineer.

If this is a genuine question... Politicians and media outlets used the phrase during the 2015 European refugee crisis to describe incoming migrants as educated professionals who would fill labour shortages.

Now thick racists put it on Facebook posts reporting crimes as if it's funny or original. So for example if a child goes missing they go "A doctor or engineer no doubt" meaning an immigrant did it.
