But if you walk in a supermarket reductions aren’t guaranteed and you don’t know what’s going to be there. Let them clear the shelves if they want, it’s not about sharing the love it’s about minimising waste

Plenty of people buy multiple items that are full price or on offer. So what if someone does by all the reduced items? That’s what they’re there for, to be bought

Yellow stickered fresh figs, or any other fruit & veg is definitely fair game. Perhaps the lady was planning to make a batch of yummy fig jam? Maybe to donate or sell for a good cause?

The things I wouldn’t consider fair game would be fresh chicken, minced beef, ready meals etc which someone who was financially struggling might buy to feed her family. I would take one, but I wouldn’t grab the lot.

The whole point of discounting is to clear the shelves because the supermarket needs to sell it quick. The lady buying 5 was doing the supermarket a favour!

One Christmas Eve scrum at the yellow sticker counter I watched 10 people wrestling over some 2kg tubs of coleslaw.

I like coleslaw but the thought of a 2kg tub was just horrific.

We seem to have places that get it picked up at various times, hospitals, schools, the local cash and carry is a 2pm one as well
as big supermarkets and places like one stop.

Iceland was annoying for a lot of our regular collectors as it used to be a 7pm collection so we could have it being started to be listed by half past but they pushed it back to 9pm. I get it from their point of view as it gives them longer to sell the food.

There are very few Olio food waste heroes in my area and most of the food that is listed goes in seconds clearly as a lot of people are in need. I also don't particularly want to be walking around late at night to get food although I have done it a few times previously. There's no one who posts food near enough me to make Olio worthwhile. I don't drive or it would be easier to pick food up.

Odds are the person who actually mosts needs it won’t be the person who next comes in to get it.

It will be someone who will take what they want.

Please come and collect from us!!! Otherwise it still ends up in our bins and composters if we can’t give it away either.

I’d guess it’s because there’s a cost of living crisis and most shoppers would like to benefit from decent genuine reduced prices. Share the love I’d say.

That is unfair to any shoppers near by trying to get themselves items. Some people are plain greedy.

It reminds me of an incident years ago, when NEXT sales were worth getting up early for. There was a couple of ladies who were going in with their trolleys up to rails and literally grabbing wide-span arms full of hangers. When I say armfuls I mean 30-40 items at a time. They filled their trollies then went off to the side to choose what they wanted to buy. I’d never seen anything like it. It was the one and only time I’d set an alarm to go shopping. Never again. I didn’t buy anything either, it was too frenzied for me.

Possibly because depending on the full price some people wouldn't clear the shelves of that item

Why do people always question greed when someone buys 5 boxes of a reduced item but if someone buys 5 boxes of a full priced item no one bats an eye? Items in shops are there to be sold!!

Agree and personally think the initial reduction price isn’t exactly tempting most people. You can sometimes find another full price brand cheaper than the reduced item! But we don’t make the rules we just follow them. Later reductions are definitely better value but as you say less people around then to buy them. Hence if someone wants to clear the shelf I’m all for it.

If there's multiple packs of something I know I will definitely use, I will buy most if not all.
I came across some small packs of chicken in Waitrose recently reduced to less than £2 each so I picked up all 4/5 packs and they've gone in the freezer. I can't say I feel particularly selfish. There might have been 20 other packs before I got there.

As long as she is paying what the store wants there is no issue.

If I wanted 10 full priced pizzas or 10 reduced pizzas I’d take 10 regardless of what someone else thought.

In fact Sainsbury’s reduced their charcoal the other week at least three of us had full
trollies just of it. Snooze you loose.

Id only think of myself if i wanted to buy something such as figs, i wouldnt worry about leaving any.

I did once take a trolley that was half filled will herbs growing in pots at 10p. Absolutely no one else was intrested in them in them. I took them home, cut them off the plant, chopped them and then froze them. I had to empty out all the pots into my garden. It was an hour until the shop closed and they were selling by that day.

I don't see any problem with it. I would do the same.

I once cleared the shelf of 50p Fairy detergent & fabric conditioner that was shared on extreme bargaining fb page , I had around 40 as it wasn’t priced up at that on the shelf so nobody would know unless they’d also seen the post . A woman said rather loudly to her mum well nobody else Is getting any as SHE’S selfishly got the lot . Had she not been a bitch about it I would have happily shared , but as it was I kept 2 of each and donated the rest 😊 .
I say first come come first served though , but i certainly would never be pushing or shoving, I’m not that desperate for anything. If I’m in right place at right time and I have freezer space I’ll take what I can , but it’s been a long time since I had a decent bargain , and by that I mean anything that’s more than 70% off or been reduced to pennies .

I would hope she's buying them to make jam or similar as going out of date figs would be rather unpleasant.
I would get more annoyed at someone buying 20 free range chickens or steaks,therefore preventing others to get a treat they might not usually be able to afford.

It's both.

It IS greedy but also it's a free country and she's not doing anything "wrong". They're there to be bought.

Not every greedy or selfish act is a wrong one.

I've actually seen this in my local Morrison's, poor staff being followed & a lot of pushing & shoving for the yellow sticker stuff.
