Supermarket bargains - is this greedy, or fair enough?

Worst part? I planted them in fact I grew the second from a twig off the first 🤣 Two brown turkeys.

Probably for jam or something. Figs are an acquired taste, not many seem keen so at least someone bought them.

Back during 'twixmas last year, my local supermarket were selling the Bisto turkey gravy at 50p a pop. I bought 3 of them, and only finished them in about June.

If I see something on yellow sticker that I know my family will enjoy, then I'd probably take all of them as well!
I recently got 5 jars of Bisto Best gravy, with an April '27 date on them. We're a family of gravy lovers, especially in the winter months, so that'll see us through a treat! Normally £4+, reduced to £1.88. Yes please!

I regularly get a few bits of meat for the freezer that are on yellow sticker. Things like burgers and sausages freeze really well.

Are you suggesting it is ok to take all the fruit and veg because they are not essential to feed a family , where as meat is an essential dietary requirement therefore should be shared out?

It depends on the circumstances - if I’m there on my own I will buy max quantity of anything that’s reduced and I have a need for - providing I have freezer space or a use for it
If there are others also looking at same time I will grab one or two items and ask if they want any - if not I might take more if I need them

Were people queuing up for them? Sometimes I see the staff member putting reduced stickers on, and people all trying to grab something. In which case, she would be greedy to grab them all. But assuming that they were just sitting in the reduced area, then the chances are they’d have got binned anyway, and she’s not doing anything wrong. I’d like to think, that if someone really wanted a box, they could have asked her and she’d have shared, but she’s not really obligated to do so.

That many boxes of fresh figs? I hope she was stocking up on loo roll as well.

I love figs!! I probably would have done the same but possibly not THAT many 😂 She was probably planning on making jam or something- better than them being thrown away!

I’m not sure why you’re trying to be patronising. All the items are for sale so regardless of it it’s fruit or meat anyone is entitled to buy as much or as little as they want

I was devastated because I'm skint and I'm pretty sure what they took was a packet of value Avocados. I think they were upset because I got the last packet and they took more than that out of my trolley. How scummy. It was like 28p. They just clearly wanted avocado for some reason

I don't see a problem with it. As.long she'd taken them off the shelf, and not out of someone else's trolley while they weren't looking,as has happened to me on a couple of occasions!

I once had people steal YS stuff out of my trolley. I was devastated because there was plenty of stuff left just not what I had taken. I would never be that skanky that I would steal out of someone's trolley.

I personally don't care whether the person behind me is a millionaire or dirt poor. I just like to leave something for other people. No more than that

Morrisons once had a shelf full of offal. I confess I shovelled pretty much all of it into my trolley. Looked away for a second and an elderly Chinese lady was grabbing handfuls! I had very strong words, don’t think she understood a thing, she just chattered loudly at me, probably telling me I was a selfish cow! I mention her nationality because it reminded me of a scene in a film where somebody was being told off by an elderly Chinese lady and didn’t understand a word 🤣

The food was for my dogs. Thought I’d stock up 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn’t dream of taking all the reduced items, it’s nice to get a bargain, but selfish to take the lot.

In the supermarket nearest me everything used to be reduced to 10 per cent of the full price. So if someone wanted a bargain they could get something that had been expensive to start with. I don't eat chicken. I'm vegan. I suspect the supermarkets know that many people will buy the cheapest option. That doesn't mean they are poor though

I'm not assuming they want to, but if they're that poor and need to get the most food for their money then presumably they need to.

Otherwise in the Sainsbury's I go to why are there so many more shelves filled with cheap battery chicken than with free range organic for example?

That's not true. Let's not assume that poor people only want to buy the cheapest of the cheap.
