To wonder if Jesus Christ is swearing

Because I exclaimed OH JESUS CHRIST in frustration today on the school run. Not my finest moment and I will admit that; it had not been a good morning, lots of stress here and my younger child nearly tipped me over the edge demanding to be carried and blocking everyone’s way on the very narrow pavement, picked her up, dropped everything else I was carrying and said the above.

We have had a message about bad language in front of the children and I feel like it’s aimed at me.

wondering what MNetters think?

Same (wince, that is). The F word doesn’t bother me nearly so much as long as it’s not in front of kids, although I don’t use it myself.

Oh come on! I’ve had a chuckle over this (and I’m Catholic)! You were frustrated, having a bad morning and you accidentally said it! At least you didn’t use the ‘f’ word.
I’m sure the good Lord has forgiven you and had a good laugh over it himself!

Yes it’s swearing. I’ve had to stop saying it since dc have made friends with children at school who have very religious Nigerian parents.

It's not swearing but it's offensive.
I have 2 friends who are Christians and attend church, and they are extremely offended by this because it's using his name to express anger or frustration.
I'm not Christian but I can see why it would offend Christians and therefore I wouldn't say it around them.
YABVU to say this in frustration in Christian school grounds. It's common sense to realise this really.

I’m not religious but I wouldn’t say this in front of my kids ( or any others) as I wouldn’t want them to repeat it. I have ended up saying ‘for go-odness sake’ a few times as I suddenly remember the kids are in the room though.

Although some of those are twofers, with both blasphemy and cussing.

It might be a safe-guarding thing. If you are visibily (orally) angry or upset when you are in charge of your child they could feasibly have 'had a word' . They are probably understanding that it's a time-of-the-morning kind of slip up so they've gone for a general, 'keep it together, lady' reminder. Knowing that the person it is aimed at (possibly you) will get the message.

Unless you were dropping the kids off at The Chalet School then no, it's not swearing. Those who dislike blasphemy won't approve but one hears worse on pre-watershed telly any day of the week.

I think it's offensive and would not expect such language around children. There's a child in reception who says it and I hate it. I tell DC to never use the name of any god as a swear word.

But that said, I hear loads of people saying it in and around our local Catholic community and no one is offended - in fact it’s often Catholics saying it!

Probably best not said in front of little kids, though, as you wouldn’t like them to repeat it - it’s enough like swearing you wouldn’t want to hear if from a kid

When my kids were little, if I accidentally said this, I would turn it into “Jesus Christ… Superstar!”, as in the name of the musical, because to me that was less like swearing 😂

Its a bit silly now that musical is on again in London but it worked at the time.

In my mind, I add to that particular blasphemy "is Lord and Saviour". Makes it more bearable to hear.

I was brought up in the Christian faith although lapsed now. But I still have enough of it in me to be a bit offended when I see Jesus or God linked with a swear word that you see so frequently on here. It seems though in today’s world that Christianity is the only religion about which it’s allowable to cause offence.

Well - it wasn’t exactly a faith context. It was a street on the same road as a faith school so while I agree it wasn’t my finest moment I didn’t bellow it as a coffin was lowered into the ground or anything.

I wouldn’t class it as swearing and wouldn’t bat an eyelid if I heard anyone say it even with my children present…. However I am pretty laid back on this sort of things. I’m sure other ppl will disagree with me

I have to admit I don’t like it. I also say oh my gosh rather than omg. I wouldn’t let it bother you too much and seems a little over the top from the school.
