AIBU to oppose housing 1,000 undocumented young men near Piddington?

1000 replies

PiddingtonFan · 16/09/2026 09:38

We dont need anymore undocumented young males.

1000 proposed to be housed near Piddington. Young males from a different culture.

AIBU to agree with them. Enough undocumented males. Too many males overwhelming a small population. 😪

Brits dont think they are too good for those types of jobs, it's more that the wages/hours are often exploitative and not enough to live on. Stating that migrants are ok to be exploited instead is reinforcing the problem.

I think it’s likely a combination of both.

I am not a resident of Piddington but if I was I would have no problem with it. Immigration has always brought culture and breathed new life into our stale neighbourhoods. New food, new traditions to celebrate, new wonderful languages to be introduced to. What's not to like?

Mumsnet badly needs a laughing out loud emoji.

Sanitation, healthcare, tourism, leisure and entertainment. Basically all the jobs most Brits think they are too good to do.

I can guarantee these men will work hard for your community, but you just need to give them a chance instead of villifying them. Welcome them to your home, get to know them. Anyone can bond over a lovely cup of tea and a biscuit. The world isn't as scary as the right wing want you to believe.

That’s a lovely sentiment when you’re not the person actually living in Piddington.🙄
Piddington has around 300 residents. The proposal is for around 1,200 men.
That isn’t “a bit of cultural enrichment” or a few new neighbours. That is adding a population FOUR TIMES the size of the village that already exists. The existing 300 residents would suddenly be a minority in their own village.
I’m all for people being welcomed, different cultures and communities mixing, etc. But honestly, the idea that anyone who dares to ask whether a village of 300 can realistically absorb another 1,200 people must therefore be a “far-right bigot” is quite something.
Would you be quite so breezy about it if it were your village, your roads, your GP, your local services and your children using the same infrastructure?
It’s very easy to be wonderfully tolerant when you’re sitting several miles away from the consequences.
Perhaps the people who actually live there could be allowed to have a say about what happens on their own doorstep. Radical idea, I know.🫤

They voted for an MP who wants to make Oxfordshire a place of sanctuary for refugees. The racists in the village are just shouting the loudest atm. Most right-thinking people in the area are happy to welcome refugees.

ItsOnlyMee1 · 16/09/2026 10:10

It's disgusting. However they voted for the lib dems at the latest election so my sympathies are limited.

If you vote for liberal policies don't kick up a fuss when something like this happens.

I was in the peak district visiting Buxton a few weeks ago and the amount of green spaces we encountered was staggering. With the right infrastructure in place there is no reason why we can't construct a couple of new towns in the Derbyshire Dales or High Peak constituencyies where refugees can be settled and homed safely at low cost.

You're taking the piss now.

Why should they be held anywhere? Straight on the next plane back.

Deportation flights need to he arranged. If they have no documents then they need a willing country to accept. I know people think it’s as easy as just sticking them on the next British Airways with a spare seat but it’s not.

The vast majority of them gain asylum because they are genuine refugees. It’s racists, not “most Brits,” who don’t want us to fulfil our duties under international law.

According a Home Office whistelblower, it's something like 1%. Even the UN is annoyed at how willy-nilly we are handing out asylum.

You seem obsessed with labelling things hard right and therefore wrong. Try addressing the concerns without jumping to a label.

I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy. People have been labelled hard right for saying the things people have posted on this thread. When there were protests about refugees being put in hotels, the people protesting were labelled racists and bigots. There were anti protests. So I think the people of Piddington should accept they are the same as the people who were vilified for saying no b

You can be assured those young men didn't come to Britain for a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Where do you suggest we put them ?

Not a HMO (flag wavers have done away with those)
Not hotels (flag wavers tried to burn those down)
Not near schools (as they are all sex offenders)
Not in City Centres (large groups makes women uncomfortable)

We aren’t going to build anywhere, it would take too long and be too expensive. Reusing vacant government owned buildings seems to make sense.

So where do they go ?

Well, Rwanda would have worked well, but here we are.

SpottyPyjama · 16/09/2026 10:08

I had some sympathy with the Piddington Campaign until your assertion that some of the men will belong to terrorist organisations. You do not know that. You do not know that any of them are doing anything other than genuinely seeking asylum because of atrocities in their own countries.

When you lose the racism, then you can be taken more seriously.

Just deport than back to their own countries. What the issue with that? If they want to come on a work visa there are processes in place for that. If they are seeking asylum then we’re full. Not taking any more. Sorry. It’s not ‘racist’ it’s just that we don’t have the money or housing to support any more people.

We need the labour government to start sticking up for what the population wants. It’s not in our best interests to take all of these people. Why are we still doing so? The Danish socialists have incredibly strict immigration policies because the left wing government respects the need to protect public services for their citizens who rely on them. It’s a shame the UK government doesn’t think likewise. They’re handing votes to Reform by ignoring people’s concerns.

Where should they be held while pending deportation?

But they did. They voted in an open borders MP?

backformoreofthesame · 16/09/2026 10:06

Practical solutions rather than “send them back” for them to come again or get killed or “send them back to France “ and end up in an economic war with France ?

the obvious ones to send back with no case for asylum tend to get sent back quite rapidly

Spaniels4Eva · 16/09/2026 10:05

I have no issue using Government properties like this, but I don't think they should be allowed to roam outside of said property until their claims have been assessed and identity verified. Then they won't cause issues for locals and women/girls are safe to leave their homes.

Murley · 16/09/2026 10:05

Rollingpinofdoom · 16/09/2026 10:02

Is that you Nigel???

Grow up!

We got Brexit because the government ignored the concerns of the population. My family living in very deprived areas voted leave because they didn’t feel the government was listening and caring about how shit their lives are. We’re going to get Reform too if the government ignore people’s concerns about immigration.

Where will they work? Where will they live? - they can’t stay in that camp forever. Who will they marry? Where/how will they socialise? Will they form ghettos as happens in big cities eg Birmingham, or will they assimilate? Will they marry white British women, or will they bring in fiancés and relatives from their own country once settled?
Where will they practice their religion? Where will they shop?

Refugee Ghettos in Birmingham…

😆😆😆😆😆😆

OhBotherSaidPoo · 16/09/2026 10:04

So it was alright when 1000s of undocumented men were housed in inner city areas like mine and all the social issues that bought. We were just plain old racists, but suddenly the nice people of Piddington face the same and all of a sudden its a problem.
GTFO.
