AIBU to oppose housing 1,000 undocumented young men near Piddington?

We dont need anymore undocumented young males.

1000 proposed to be housed near Piddington. Young males from a different culture.

AIBU to agree with them. Enough undocumented males. Too many males overwhelming a small population. 😪

No increase in crime locally? No decrease in people’s perception of safety? I’d be fine with asylum seekers if I knew they kept the same values as the auk citizens, but sexual assaults are really high in cities like Glasgow which has lots of asylum seekers but the police refuse to hide crime stats by ethnicity so there’s no way of knowing how safe people are. We aren’t being properly informed and so cannot come to a conclusion.

Probably true. I don't want hundreds of any type of people of any race, nationality, class, religion etc suddenly appearing anywhere near my house. I moved to the middle of nowhere 40 years ago for just that reason.

Looks like a hostel. But how basic it is has no bearing on whether its guests are free to roam around Piddington. Which is what worries Piddington. We are looking at cultures that never had the Enlightenment, see women as objects to be owned, and have a different view of in and out groups from ours. That is problematic.

@DebbieSavageWe have a ‘hotel’ near us in what is thankfully a relatively low-crime area. Last year we had to have police presence on my street for the first time ever since i’ve lived here because several men from the hotel were caught stalking girls from our primary school.

In basic accommodation with basic food and water and detained until we are 100% certain of who they are. The issue is not them being in the military base. The issue is with them being free to roam.

They are welcome to return forth where they came from.

Stop putting their wellbeing above British people. It's not difficult.

No they were not. And they were not 'deprived' but places where normal people live i.e. not Guardianistas (former one here, I know what they are like).

Not my post you asked about but I don't agree with Reform. However, 1000 young men of any sort dumped onto a village of c.300 people in the middle of nowhere isn't a good recipe either for integration or for happiness and safety. Piddington has a point, here. They should issue passports at once. Many will migrate.

That sounds inhumane for them. But I guess they have to put them somewhere. If it previously housed plenty of men from the Army then the number of men in itself shouldn't be an issue? More that they have no money and nothing to do.

I am in a Labour constituency (and my MP voted for assisted dying afaik) but I don't want open borders. Terry Pratchett was quite wrong (in The Last Hero) borders are necessary and serve a purpose and should be enforced.
