AIBU to oppose housing 1,000 undocumented young men near Piddington?

1000 replies

PiddingtonFan · 16/09/2026 09:38

We dont need anymore undocumented young males.

1000 proposed to be housed near Piddington. Young males from a different culture.

AIBU to agree with them. Enough undocumented males. Too many males overwhelming a small population. 😪

Piddington doesn't look stale, it looks lovely. What jobs are young undocumented males going to do. Maybe retrain as care workers? Perhaps training and assistance with language and assimilation might be useful.

There is a leaflet they hand out.

Do you live there?

This is an alternative to solution to the hostels though.

So if you’re against this, then you must think that the hostels are a better solution (I did at first too).

You can’t say you disagree with both but offer no alternative solution.
That’s like sticking your fingers in your ears and going “La la la”

You either want to discuss the issue or you don’t.
As a country, we will never reach a solution on immigration if people are too focused on giving their opinions and not open to coming up with solutions or hearing the opposing arguments.

These illegal immigrants are here.
If Piddington block them from using the military base then they’ll be put somewhere else instead.
It’s not a case of them not going to Piddington and then just disappearing.

I can as I didn’t want Labour. This is theirs to resolve.

Do you have a link? Google says the Supreme Court overruled the Rwanda plan.

Here you go, this is the legislation

The legislation passed in response to the UK Supreme Court's ruling against the Rwanda asylum policy is the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Act 2024. 1]
Key Details

  • Enactment Date: It became law on April 25, 2024, following the Supreme Court's November 2023 judgment

You’ll have to quote where I’ve said that, but anyway I didn’t vote for either hotels or barracks. But here we are with Labour, they’ll have to figure out what to do.

I have so much sympathy for the residents of Piddington. They are already saying they will have to adapt their own behaviour to stay safe.

Well at least they don't have a shop, cafe, school or pub that will be overrun with asylum seekers.

The Rwanda plan was never going to work. The UK Supreme Court ruled the policy unlawful and it financially prohibitive too.

The Conservatives likely knew it was going to fail, but let it go on so Labour would be the ones to cancel it.

Legislation overruled that.

NancyThompson · 16/09/2026 12:45

Contain4 · 16/09/2026 12:43

But that’s not happening.

So isn’t this a better alternative solution?

People were moaning about them being put into hostels and so the government has come up with an alternative solution.

It’s not perfect but seems like a logical step in the right direction.

I hope it will be happening at some point in the future, after this current parliamentary term. I'm just operating on the assumption it'll all be a disaster until then.

But the base is an old military base - it’s already set up empty.

It’s not a case of saying they’d have it near them instead.

You’re saying that this is a bad idea (which I agreed with at the beginning of this thread) but why do you think multiple hostels (which aren’t set up for long term living) are better than the military base?

I’m not sure if the law technically sees them as criminals but as you say we have no idea of their past history.

So they cannot be treated as prisoners as they’re not but having this sort of more controlled environment, which has similarities to an open prison, where the infrastructure is set up to deal with mass people, is an improvement instead of just shoving them anywhere and hoping for the best.

I’ve never worked for the military but I’ve worked in open prisons and ex military basis and it seems a way better solution then random hotels.

I don’t think they should be treated like criminals but I do think more restrictions, eg curfews, mental health assessments (I think they may have these), background checks etc would be beneficial for them and to the British public.

I think it just makes sense to put them all together in an area built to house them for long periods, before dispersing them once they’ve had all of their checks etc.

Do you think it was better when they were in the hostels and why?

I was in full support of the Rwanda scheme.

Yes she is. But she does it to show how ridiculous it is.

Yes and she's got an excuse. What's the excuse for the rest of the ridiculous posts? Equating asylum seekers with the armed forces and calling the people of Piddington far right!

They should be. They may not have broken international law, but by arriving the way they do, they have broken UK law. We also have absolutely no idea if they have a criminal background or not beyond that.

I’m not sure if the law technically sees them as criminals but as you say we have no idea of their past history.

Great, arrest them all on arrival, charge and put them in prison awaiting trial. And then watch as the government has to release prisoners early to make space, and how trial dates push further and further into the future…

Are you sure that’s what you want?

No, as I said previously, I supported the Tories offshore plans that Labour promptly scrapped.

NoisyViper · 16/09/2026 12:24

DebbieSavage · 16/09/2026 10:03

I feel like this forum has been targeted by Reform and all the right wing cronies who so far have failed to get the more intelligent gender on board with their rhetoric.

Hopefully Labour ministers will work on legislation to restrict anti immigration talking points on public platforms before it spreads amongst the lower classes.

Disagreeing with high levels of immigration isn’t a coordinated ‘targeting’ by Reform, and wanting open debate doesn’t make someone a crony. Calling for legislation to restrict certain talking points on public platforms is a much bigger step than most people supporting tighter controls would ever take. Free discussion of policy isn’t something that needs to be managed from above so it doesn’t reach the ‘lower classes’

AlphaQueue · 16/09/2026 12:24

If white men are bad enough why import men from nations where things for women are worse

AlphaQueue · 16/09/2026 12:22

The main thing is people don't want these unchecked undocumented men from one of the worst nations for women to freely mix in British societies and communities.

NoisyViper · 16/09/2026 12:22

Rollingpinofdoom · 16/09/2026 09:59

Wow. Lots of people agreeing with reform and the far right on here. Why would they not bribg culture and life? Are you saying all these men are criminals and bad people? Why?

Agreeing with Reform on some issues doesn’t make someone far-right. Pointing out that large numbers of young men arriving without skills, language, or clear selection criteria may struggle to integrate isn’t the same as calling them all criminals. Culture and contribution aren’t automatic, they depend on numbers, selection, and expectations. Most people just want those factors taken seriously
