AIBU to oppose housing 1,000 undocumented young men near Piddington?

1000 replies

PiddingtonFan · 16/09/2026 09:38

We dont need anymore undocumented young males.

1000 proposed to be housed near Piddington. Young males from a different culture.

AIBU to agree with them. Enough undocumented males. Too many males overwhelming a small population. 😪

Labour are in power. The EU has similar migration issues atm anyway.

Only for the past 2 years.

And as part of leaving the EU we knew that it would increase immigration from non-EU countries and we would have less say on what happens to illegal immigrants when they got here and about sending them back etc.

It wouldn’t matter what political party was in power.

That wouldn’t change that people voted to have an increase in non-EU immigration when they voted to leave the EU.

You can’t keep blaming labour or the left and forget about the people who actually voted for us to be in this situation.

I would say that the majority who voted for labour did not vote to leave the EU and did not want us to be in this situation.

You either put the blame on those that voted for Brexit or you say forget about the blame game and how can we find a solution going forward.

You said it appears to be working not me. It’s clearly not working otherwise we wouldn’t need space for over a thousand men. And yes, I do expect overnight fixes, send them back to wherever they have come from and stop letting them have benefits if they are granted asylum. I don’t see what’s so difficult about it, once the money/handouts stops then they’ll stop coming. There’s no better deterrent than not giving access to the benefit system.

The freedom to go where they like unimpeded and do what they like may be an even bigger draw. There's a lack of formality here, no card carrying or checks, and minimal barriers or bureaucracy, plus plenty of opportunity for casual or illegal working or even living off crime.

Let’s see how the French elections go. Also Australia got numbers very low with their system.

Australia sets an annual cap of 20,000 places for its official Refugee and Humanitarian Program, while thousands more apply for asylum from within the country each year. ’Sending them back’ isn’t going to happen so if that’s what you’re hoping for then no system is going to satisfy you.

What would you consider a ‘successful’ reduction at this point, if Labour had continued with the Rwanda plan for the last two years?

Zero boat crossings. And those coming in on lorries. And deporting the almost 2 million people that are in the UK that shouldn't be. That would be a start.

If you expect overnight fixes for anything you’ll always be disappointed.

What makes Piddington more special than any other area?

Bottom line, these people need to be processed and removed.

I don’t know how you keep going on about labour.

Those that voted for Brexit knew that it would result in an increase of immigrants from non-EU countries but decided that this was ok - so if you’re trying to blame people, why are you not blaming those that voted to leave the EU and ultimately caused the problem?

You have to wonder whether it was just ignorant pride why Labour didn't see this through. Not wanting to carry through a Tory proposal, which, if successful would mean conceding to the Tories it was a workable solution. Wonder how things would now look if Conservatives were still in and plan was up and running. Just thinking out loud.

It was definitely just ignorant pride. The scheme was about to take off, it was ready to be fully up and running. Labour ended up spunking an obscene amount of money out of sheer twattiness, but that was Keir for you.

Switchnow · 16/09/2026 14:01

EasternStandard · 16/09/2026 13:45

You brought up costs. Labour’s is expensive.

No, I brought up a court case that the government fought to win.

LuckyHazelFox · 16/09/2026 13:51

Of course had it failed, Labour would have done what they always do and blamed the previous government. Labour's one in one out is just nominal results.

Actually lots of orgs said Rwanda act would fail whilst Tories were in power, including The Financial Times, The Economist, Oxford Migration Observatory and the Institute for Government.

HRTQueen · 16/09/2026 13:57

1000 young men with nothing to do all housed together is never ever a good idea

With a small population the impact is felt more

That so many come from cultures where woman and girls are second class citizens and very often opinions of western culture and western woman are viewed negatively and less equal makes the issue even more concerning

Its not going to bring cultural changes that may enrich the lives of people in the area because they will have no purpose, no money maybe a shop or two will pop up to serve them but this is not to integrate people into the local community its to simply hold them for a period of time

I was in the peak district visiting Buxton a few weeks ago and the amount of green spaces we encountered was staggering. With the right infrastructure in place there is no reason why we can't construct a couple of new towns in the Derbyshire Dales or High Peak constituencyies where refugees can be settled and homed safely at low cost.

They're people, I believe. Animals are 'homed'. People are housed.

So you’d say yes then. Ok great put it near you.

We already have 5 HMO hostels/hotels near us already. And students. Students are worse.

Tories solution was even more expensive (£170k per person)

Sending asylum seekers to Rwanda will cost about £170,000 per person,

The cost per individual of the relocations would be roughly £169,000 “over the multiyear lifetime of the scheme”, according to Home Office calculations. This includes an estimated £105,000 provided to the Rwandan authorities, a figure based on costs of a similar Syrian scheme; £19,000 to meet the costs incurred by the Home Office and Ministry of Justice; and £22,000 to cover the flights.

Yes the point of a deterrent is it impacts behaviour. Australian numbers are very low after thousands.

Agreeing with Reform on some issues doesn’t make someone far-right. Pointing out that large numbers of young men arriving without skills, language, or clear selection criteria may struggle to integrate isn’t the same as calling them all criminals. Culture and contribution aren’t automatic, they depend on numbers, selection, and expectations. Most people just want those factors taken seriously

Indeed.

Saying you have concerns about large numbers of men from different cultures, different beliefs, language and no idea of background or whether lovely or criminal past is just bigoted. Freedom of opinion still exists.

Problems are showing throughout Europe. Concerns about Problems is normal. We don't all just say yes yes to open borders when its obviously going to lead to a multitude of problems in cost, health care, benefits, education, strain of all services. Best to express concerns now before the problem isn't completely out of hand.

I then actually gave a response to your previous post. But you do this always and ignore responses that challenge you.

Why would I respond to someone rudely saying 'it's you again'?

I don't even recognise your username, so find someone else to nag.

Contain4 · 16/09/2026 13:52

PiddingtonFan · 16/09/2026 13:35

No everyone wasn't. The more that come, the more concerns are raised.

But it was though.

This isn’t about reducing the numbers of immigrants - that’s a completely different argument.

It’s saying where should they be put:

In hostels/hotels which are not suitable for long-term livening, set in deprived urban areas - which is why people were complaining about the hotels being used.

Or

In an unused military base that has been designed to house hundreds on middle aged men, set on the outskirts of a village

Its literally one or the other until another solution is found.
There is no - I don’t want either.

Saying just stop allowing them in is not a solution because life just doesn’t work like that.

There are already decreasing numbers of illegal immigrants coming into the country.
People didn’t like the use of hotels and so this has been offered as an alternative solution.
If it is blocked, the immigrants won’t disappear - they’ll just continue being put into hostels.

Costs are incredibly high now don’t worry. £56k per person for the one in one out scheme. £78m so far.

And that’s not including all the other stuff here and o/s.
