Australia uses a humanitarian visa system, it’s stopped deaths at sea.

So the question is what is the solution. You think it’s mirroring Australian policy of returning boats, some think Rwanda would have worked, others think safe routes, others law enforcement against traffickers. But there’s also the problem of how to accommodate people when they are here and awaiting a decision, and for those whose claims are rejected but who can’t be removed to their country of origin.

Everybody knows that most violence against women and girls is perpetrated by people known to them. Family members, friends, date rapes etc. If Reform were really concerned about women and girls, they would be focusing on this - not the possible impact of a small subset of the 1.5% of total migrants - as if that's all anyone needs to be up in arms about. Politicians need to be more concerned about the impact of porn on all men - this is far more of a cultural threat to our society and safety than anything else. The only time Reform comment on violence against women and girls is when it fuels their agenda

And generally it does - for the millions of people who arrive to work, study or visit every year, plus the largest proportion of people seeking asylum who come via regular routes. For this relatively small group of people, there is a different arrivals system.

As you say, we can’t tell who is a risk. You could be the next Rose West, and having your passport on file isn’t going to help us predict that.

And if the men are from 'those countries,' certain people will get even more discombobulated, particularly given the stereotypes currently pedalled by populist media.

The issue is you can’t tell who is a risk, and we’ve seen some horrendous crimes. Generally the gov should ensure we have a system of entry that is better checked.

It could be dealt with in a way that causes less backlash. There are posts where people decry those who say no thanks and how bad those people are.

The obvious way to avoid a lot of tension is to put the men near where those welcoming people are.

Of course Piddington was welcoming but now are worried, but maybe the steadfast will stay welcoming. If you keep telling everyone his terrible the objectors are you can really object (general you).
