Many people here are certainly talking about the entire thousand men as a threat. And throwing around stereotypes. And all I am saying is that there will be some decent men amongst them.

I agree we shouldn’t stand for it.

But I have worked with genuine asylum seekers. Who abhor the Taliban and their treatment of women etc. People who want to make a difference here, and work hard. So it’s hard seeing them tarred by the same brush due to the monsters who rape and assault vulnerable women. That’s all.

Are you arguing that there is something innately different about the average Indian man that makes him more likely than an average Italian man to sexually assault women? Do you actually think this?

It’s not impossible it’s just not wanted, those admonishing others are perhaps not so keen after all to have 1000 plus men near them.

And yet, our government refers to people as commodities all the time. The whole ' our nhs would collapse without foreign workers', is the very definition of seeing people in terms of what they bring, whether it be skills/ qualifications/taxes...

Just because they get told life in the UK is great and they "want" to come here doesn't mean we should allow it.

There have been numerous rapes and attacks by these men. So stands the reason they are a bit of an issue and we shouldn't have to stand for this.

Where did I say anything about them being no risk? Show me. You have got this idea about housing asylum seekers next to people who think there is no risk, and you keep inserting it in all your responses. It’s a bit strange. And a little silly as it would be impossible to effect.

I was simply saying that there will be some decent asylum seekers amongst the thousand. And it isn’t right to talk about them all as potential rapists. You know, like all GB news-watchers aren’t all racists. People are individuals with their own moral codes and behaviours.

We don’t know what they were told by the traffickers or the middlemen. They have maybe been told that the UK is safer, better, I don’t know. I imagine they want to go somewhere where they have the best chance of creating a new life. I imagine many of them want the best for themselves, like any of us would.

I am not making an excuse for rapists and I would want any criminals to feel the full weight of the law. I don’t think housing 1000 people in a small area without taking account of local resources is ever a good idea. And putting so many single men together in one place I think is a potential recipe for disaster, esp if they are without structure and occupation.

My objection is talking about all these men as if they are all potential rapists. Saying that these thousand men are all a threat to women is the same kind of sweeping comment as saying all Reform voters are racist. People are individuals and I think that gets forgotten.
