The Ukraine scheme wasn’t designed exclusively for women and children, it was open to men but Ukraine conscripted men so very few elected to join.

If I was in a village I'd not be happy, no. That doesn't mean it's wrong though.

I'm not really sure what people want from the government..

• Immigration and illegal crossings are significantly dropping
• People smugglers are having to go to new lengths to evade capture

And

• People hate the use of B&B accommodation for asylum seekers
• Ethics aside, no one wants to pay taxes to fund staffed detention centres

So that leaves using places like Piddington. Yes, I'd be really pissed if I'd paid 900k to live there. But that doesn't mean an otherwise viable estate should be ignored to avoid annoying 300 wealthy people.

We don't know the ethnicity of the perpetrator by the way - he was not identified because of his age.

There are no shops, no cafés, no pubs in Piddington for anyone to integrate with.

I can’t see what the asylum seekers would even want to go into the village for. Houses are much of a muchness everywhere.

Same as one of the women in Piddington who was previously seen holding a Palestinian banner. She can put her money where her mouth is now and integrate with a culture she feels she understands. There should be no complaints from her.

I just can't help wondering how many of the posters on here who are calling people who object or have reservations about this,bigots and racists, would feel if it was happening in their village/town? A few years ago a friend of mine was going on about people in a town far from where she lived,objecting to numerous HMOs springing up in their area, housing immigrants. She said they were out and out racists. More recently,an HMO has appeared not very far from where she lives. Is she happy about it? No,she is not. Double standards IMO. It's fine as long as it's 'Not In My Backyard'.

In addition, there would be people refused asylum, whom the government have been unable to deport.

So by vetting you mean only selecting women? That’s not the usual definition of vetting, but if that’s your proposed system then ok, sure, good idea. Can you see any issues with a system that only rescues women?

I guess I’d want to know if you would be ok if they were housed somewhere else, or if it’s just your village that you’re worried about? Personally I think housing them spread out throughout communities is better but then I also think they could be treated badly in that way and poor behaviour either way is harder to monitor. There are a load of young men in a hotel in the city centre in my closest city and they’re honestly all fine. No bother, polite, keep themselves to themselves, some help out at a local church even though they’re not Christians.

But the point is, can you imagine the news if Afghan asylum seekers had been the perpetrators of such a murder - in broad daylight in Richmond-Upon-Thames of all places? Can you imagine? It would have been the top story on the BBC and across all news channels; there would be debates in the House of Commons; probably a public enquiry would have been called; there would have been major marches; vigils and national public outrage. That is the difference.

So as you say, it was reported. Why do people lie I wonder.

That's the second murder I referred to in my post, although the Afghan refugee was aged 18 - his killer was aged 16 at the time. Numerous articles in the national press.
