Any medical professionals around that can help me calm down re DD heamangioma/vascular growth.

Been trying to get to the bottom of what we thought was a cyst on dd for ages. Seen so many drs who kept saying it was a skin cyst what she would grow out of but all of them said they weren’t the specialist on it so passed on to others. Finally had a scan today and I think they said it was a heamangioma although I got a bit confused with all the wording. They said they will send the results to gp. They mentioned that it was something to do with blood vessels all forming together and causing some type of growth or something along those lines. It’s right in between her eyebrows, fairly small and under the skin so no discolouration etc but it does cause pain when she’s getting dressed or catches it.

Dont know if it’s relevant but she had a huge raised red lump on her ankle when she was born that they said was some type of birth mark, it has since shrunk but left scarring/discolouration.

I stupidly googled and now I’m worried. Has anyone else experienced similar?

I had one on the end of my tongue. I was in my 30s. My gp was so alarmed, he got me seen by a consultant the next day. I was in such a state....anyway, I had it cut out later under sedation. I have never had any more, though I was told that they can erupt anywhere. Consultant told me it's like a strawberry birthmark - it's to do with blood vessels. Nearly 30 years now and I haven't had another one. Hope your daughter is ok x

Thank you that’s really helpful. I’ve been told she may need an MrI and that treatment will depend on weather they think there is a risk to her eyesight or not so I’m just in that worrying stage at the moment but I’m hoping as it isn’t too big it won’t be anything to worry about! I’m glad your Daughters got sorted

My daughter's started off the size of a train of rice, grew to the size of a pea within a couple of weeks and was the size of a ping pong ball within a couple of months. It was absolutely terrifying. We were told that it ordinarily wouldn't need any treatment and would shrink naturally as she got older. Unfortunately because hers was internal it was pressing on her optic nerve and affected her eyesight so she had a series of steroid injections to shrink it. However - this was more than 20 years ago and I think oral propanolol is licensed as a treatment now, which is less invasive.

My daughter's did shrink a bit with the injections and almost totally disappeared by the time she was a teenager. It sounds as though your daughter's is very slow growing but possibly it's a slightly different type as she's well past infancy. Hope our experience is reassuring though

She’s 9, we started noticing it about a year ago but it’s not obvious unless she raises her eyebrows and then you can see the lump. Do you mind me asking what the treatment was for your daughter?

How old is she/how old when you noticed it? My daughter had a large cavernous haemangioma at the edge of one of her eyebrows, but hers grew rapidly from about 6 weeks old and it sounds as though your daughter is older?
