£60 for a Nando’s takeaway for 4!

Really tired tonight and no energy to cook. So we decided on Nando’s. 2 adult and 2 kids meals for around £60 with delivery. It’s shocking, for lukewarm underwhelming crap. When did prices get so high! I decided to cook in the end after all.I don’t get how all these delivery drivers are so busy when prices are like this.

Food is more expensive when you get it delivered as well if it’s through Uber Eats and the like. That’s how they make money.

TurquoiseDress · 16/09/2026 19:13

YANBU!

Me & the kids love a Nandos but it’s honestly just so expensive for what it is

TeaandHobnobs · 16/09/2026 19:16

It’s insane. 3 of us ate in Five Guys the other night, as it was the quickest option en route when we were really tight on time - near enough £60! And pretty crap too (except the milkshakes, which I love)
We are trying to avoid eating out altogether for now, as feeling the financial pain from a week’s holiday in Europe eating out 3 meals a day 🥴🥴🥴

youngestisapsycho · 16/09/2026 19:20

If it’s ordered thru Just Eat/Uber/Deliveroo the prices are bumped up too… our local kebab place, Just Eat adds £4 to each kebab!
We stopped using the delivery services and go direct with local restaurants

amraa · 16/09/2026 19:23

@TRS20£15 per head when the kids meal are £6, be real , it’s also not just the price it’s the quantity

Meandthegherkin · 16/09/2026 19:29

I don’t know, £15/head is about 1.2 x an hours work at minimum wage.

SpidersAreShitheads · 16/09/2026 19:29

I think PP suggesting alternatives are sort of missing the point of a takeaway.

You need to have ready meals in the freezer/fridge to be able to just chuck one in the microwave. And to be fair, a large proportion of ready meals are utter shit and taste grim (and they're tiny).

Doing something basic like toasties or omelettes etc is relatively simple but when you've got to do them for the full family and you're already knackered, it's not actually that quick and can be a faff. And again, you might not have enough eggs for everyone, toastie fillings etc, especially if you're due to do a big shop.

Sometimes you just want to order food and have it brought to you. You don't have to think about what's in the fridge/freezer (which honestly I find harder than the physical element of cooking).

But you're not wrong OP, takeaways are bloody expensive. I have two teens and it ranges between £45 to £70 for us (£70 was Five Guys with milkshakes for everyone - a big treat).

We might stretch to a takeaway once, MAYBE twice a month if we're feeling flush. It's probably a good thing tbh, because obviously they're primarily shitty junk food.

I remember saying to a chef friend years ago that I'd happily pay for someone to do delivery on a decent meal - even just sausage/mash/veg type thing - for the nights that I'd worked late and was too shattered to cook for everyone.

BEAchDays2 · 16/09/2026 19:29

Bloody awful waste of money.

I can count on one hand the number of takeaways I’ve bought in the last 10 years.

I absolutely see the appeal, especially if you’re with friends and it’s a social experience but OH MY GOODNESS the cost. I just can’t get my head around it.

When I was very tired and my children were small I’d take them to Leon and they’d share a children’s meal for £3 and it was heaven. Our local Leon staff knew us and would give the children a (relatively) big children’s portion and endless free refills of milk. They were so kind and lovely.

My children are no longer small and a Leon takeaway for both of them (that would actually fill them up) would be closer to £20-£25. (Not including me)

I didn’t grow up having takeaways ever. Literally never had one. Ever. My parents both cooked and if everyone was knackered we’d have beans on toast or an omelette or whatever.

Anyway. No shame on anyone who loves a takeaway, but yeah OP, the cost!!!!

Im really tired tonight so we had quesadillas (takes me less than 5 mins to assemble and cook) with salad. We have an amazing fish and chip place near us but it’s £22 for my children to have that (and obvs no vegetables or salad) and quesadillas and salad cost me about £3 in total. No brainer, however tired I am. We get fish and chips a couple of times a year and it’s a massive treat when we do 😂

I think £15 a head including delivery isn’t that bad!

Me too!

singthing · 16/09/2026 19:47

If it had been piping hot, would you be so outraged?

I mean, you are relying on a third party, lowest cost possible, service, so they aren't going to put your meal in a limousine and send it at warp speed. Next time go get it yourself if you don't want to rely on the whim of a bloke on a moped with 10 other orders waiting too.

You can't be surprised at the price either, given you knew what it was when you placed the order. I also think £15 pp is quite reasonable .

If you love it it’s honestly one of the easiest things to recreate at home. Know it’s not the same but it goes down really well in this house.

Double roast a spatchcock chicken
buy the ltr bottle of sauce from Costco
fry microwave rice in coconut oil and Cajun seasoning
decent supermarket coleslaw
air fryer corn 🌽
fries

sauce is about £8 but does about 6 teas

Yokodoko · 16/09/2026 20:09

I think the delivery drivers are not just delivering food?

tenpasteverything · 16/09/2026 20:10

I’m not in the UK, but I know Nando’s is shit. But do you really expect someone else to cook your food, deliver it by person to your door still hot, and pay pennies for it? How?

Cook your own food.

CasperGutman · 16/09/2026 20:24

Have takeaways ever really been cheap? Home Alone was set in 1990 and they paid $122.50 for ten large pizzas. $12.25 for a large pizza 36 years ago isn't that different from the £9.99 someone upthread was saying they could get a large Domino's pizza for now!

Longleaf · 16/09/2026 21:07

I like Nandos, I think for a quick restaurant/fast food meal when you're out it's better than most. You get real food and the opportunity for plenty of veg. It wouldn't occur to me to order it as a takeaway though.

We used to get takeaway at least once a week but no longer do as it’s so expensive. I can’t actually remember when we last got it now
