Blindness is a serious disability. Not some word to be chucked around for marketing attention. There are a lot of other words that could have been used - mystery box, suprise box.

Just because there are other uses of the word blind doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be reviewed.

you could say black sheep is ok, because we use black in many other contexts. There is nuance.

plus, things like blind fold blind date etc are hardly “new”- they can be inappropriate and still in common usage, many words are

I know the word blind is used in lots of contexts - blind baking etc. I don't find them offensive because they are long standing and established uses.
But I don't see any logic in calling a mystery box a blind box. Just why? What is wrong with calling it what it is : a mystery box.
That's what I dont understand.

What about the word 'blindfold'. Is that offensive too? To be blinded, to go in blind. They can have a double meaning. But blind in this case, It simply means without sight. So you're buying them without seeing them.

Not my experience. A lot of people I know still refer to themselves as blind

I generally prefer to be guided by people with lived experience on things like this. A quick google suggests that as there is no negative connotations around the use of the word it is considered inoffensive. It is merely a descriptor.

Double blind trials, blind tasting, duck blind (usually called a hide in the UK though), blinders (blinkers).

Lucky dip does sound better in this instance.
