Who loves diamonds!! Honestly I love them. They are SO beautiful. My favourite type of diamond is a firey one. My own is titchy. 0.2 carats. But my god it’s a firecracker. A sparky little rainbow on my finger 🧨 Besides my own children.. I do think good diamonds are the most beautiful thing on earth. Tell me about your favourite diamonds?

I have a diamond eternity ring with old cut rose diamonds. It’s 166 years old. It glows beautifully.

My pear shape was new several decades ago but I mostly collect antique and vintage pieces. I might buy lab grown for fun but my art deco pieces, for example, have substantially increased in value. Old pieces have much more personality.

my experience is mainly with dealers/wholesalers/shops buying new and there is a significant reduction in price. Its not unheard of for people to sell a diamond to the end customer at less than what they paid trade price, if theyve had it more than a year.

If it's a 'POA' piece I know it's going to be out of my budget - 'if you have to ask, you can't afford it' is true for me.

I quite like cubic zirconias, as it happens, but zircons are a lot more special.

Nothing too enormous that I’d gouge someone’s eye out with, but they are so pretty! I love my solitaire and eternity rings-both secondhand.

The hallmark on the ring will say if it's a lab diamond. They are visually identical. The colour and clarity of lab diamonds is usually very good and it's easy to find them set in silver, which brings down the cost of the jewellery as gold prices are very high.

@Anonmousse is it true that jewellers can tell a lab grown from a natural diamond that lab growns are considered inferior? Or is that just diamond-snobbery looking to keep natural diamond prices high?

Mossanites looks fabulous online, I'm really tempted.

You absolutely cant tell the difference, by eye, or with a loupe, you need a special machine to test them.
I work in a workshop rather than a shop. We are working more and and more with lab grown diamonds. They are structurally and chemically the same as diamonds, and behave the same way when heated etc. So different to eg czs or mossanite.

The price of both lab grown and natural diamonds has fallen considerably (the popularity, availability and cost of LG means fewer people want natural diamonds. De Beers has actually closed one of their mines) At trade prices LG are probably 10% of the cost of natural, maybe less for bigger stones.

There is some snobbery and there is some new guidance that they will have to be sold as synthetic diamonds....I think to try to put customers off them

I’ll ignore the snippy previous posts! I’m a magpie and love diamonds, so much so that I remodelled wedding and engagement rings when I got divorced into an absolutely stunning chunky ring I wear everyday. The diamonds were far too pretty to sit gathering dust.
I have a few lab grown pieces that are lovely too I just love the sparkle.

I went to the Cartier exhibition at the V&A recently and it was beautiful. Many of the tiaras etc were fantastically set & had a history. Lots of items were on loan from Freddie Mercury’s sister.
I don’t think that I’d have noticed the difference if any weren’t diamonds. It was the setting, the delicate mounting & the shimmer.

Harry Diamond, (Rory McIlroy's) caddie, yeah he has plenty of money, I like that diamond.

There is something quite classy about a well set diamond. My own engagement ring is another gemstone with diamonds each side, I wanted to be different! I wear a diamond ring on my other hand to celebrate a big wedding anniversary, best of both!
