AIBU to think of course all the anti-trans posts on this website and others are leading to real life harm?

Just seen a video of a trans woman minding her business in a train station getting horribly bullied by some Tommy Robinson wanna-be and couldn't help but think back to all the aggressive threads I've seen on Mumsnet.

Pages and pages of vilifying innocent trans people, calling them perverts and all sorts with zero evidence of anything of the sort of course would lead to people like this harassing and attacking trans people in public. I've see a few of so-called GC brigade say 'this isn't what we wanted' but it is the end, isn't it? If you do see trans people as disgusting abusive perverts trying to sneak into your changing rooms and hurt your daughter, you'd want them to be bashed in public yeah?

Am I wrong to think their chickens are coming home to roost and certain posters will want to claim they never had a hand in it all?

I know I’m in the minority, but Yanbu,
The disingenuous will say they are only voicing concerns, but we have seen posts that go well beyond that.

I recently read a really interesting book called Pink Pilled: Women and the Far Right by Lois Shearing. Very well researched and eye opening.

You know @AmberTigerEyes instead of jumping on the 'far right' 'bandwagon why not try and debate?

See if you can answer 2 simple questions for starters

  1. Why should women accept men in their single sex areas because men are scared of men?
  2. Why can't men just wear dresses if they so wish but accept it is impossible to change sex?

Oh I believe you really think that and thank you for being one of the few honest posters on your side.

I have every confidence that your view is what most of them secretly believe and they are just too cowardly to own it.

I freely agree that the majority of men who claim to be women are porn-addled fetishists who want all women to collide in their fetish, even those of us who do not consent.

I'll go further and say that men who demand women collude in their delusions/fetishes and threaten us with going NC if a family member/loss of jobs/violence/rape unless we comply are manipulative, abusive men who have found a way to control women while also being perceived as the victim of abuse. DARVO writ large.

And do you know who really are cowards, @helpfulucy? Abusive men.

This. 💯

@AmberTigerEyes I'm a rape and DV survivor. Am I far right for saying that when I fled to a womens' refuge, I needed a female only space in which to recover from male violence? Am I far right for requiring female HCPs to perform intimate examinations and procedures? Am I far right for being afraid to be alone in a public toilet late in the evening with a man I don't know (as most women will, but those with a history of sexual assault/male violence are likely to feel this more acutely)?

What's really curious is that everyone who's ever known me has thought me to be a bit of 'lefty'. What a bizarre timeline we're on where women's requirements to safe, single sex spaces are considered far right, and are often trumped by the demands of men in order to 'be kind'.

I know a lot of transgender people with trans men and non binary people in the majority, and the level of abuse and hatred they receive has increased. They cite Mumsnet unprompted as an influence on this. “Sex realists” like “race realists” give people permission to express their bigotry.

Of course they blame MN. Just like incels blame "Feminism" and Greeens blame the billionaires and Reformists blame immigrants and Brexiteers blamed the EU for reality not lining up to their expectations.

It doesn't make them right though.

The real issue is that people simply aren't prepared to play the parts Genderists alot to them. We don't see ourselves reflected in the gender roles they want to assign us to. We know our actual life experiences do not align with the way they tell us the world works. And we don't think it's fair we have to deny our own self knowledge to actualise theirs.

MN is blamed because it was a place people could admit this truth when so many places banned it.

I don't. I'm funded by the far right so I can sit around all day stirring up the internet.

Me too. I gave up my job when the first big cheque came in 😀😀

You can’t compare women saying things about bad wigs etc on Mumsnet to men saying they want to rape and kill women. That’s just silly. There’s no “both sides” here. Women on MN are not threatening these men.

2.I personally believe that often times women are erased from social movements, including the bad ones. I'm sure many of the racist thugs marching against immigrants have wives/girlfriends who agree with them but just had to stay home for one reason or another so yes I think certain women play a part in how violent men behave. Maybe if women stopped breeding with them their penchant for violence might disappear.

In other words, "I can't see any women being violent, but they must be responsible for it somehow... they just must be!
Check out the rules of misogyny. Rule number one: "Women are responsible for what men do".

Yes, somehow, sometime, somewhere a woman must be at fault for what men do!

I'm talking about the threats and hate on either extreme being unacceptable. Not specific ideologies. But hey, you carry on writing your own little narrative and putting words in my mouth, you know nothing about me and you don't seem remotely interested in actually hearing what people's opinions are unless they exactly match yours. That is not how discourse works, so I won't be engaging with you further.

Then you’re a terf too? What’s the problem then? You’re a terf on mumsnet, vilified by “everyone” apparently

I've said nothing about being 'vilifed by everyone'. If someone else has, take it up with them.

It's not a plop and run I just had a family to give dinner to and put to bed. Sorry not all of us are glued to the board all hours of the day.

So to answer some replies

  1. I specified it wasn't just mumsnet adding to the vitriol but also several sites like it. The idea that hateful posting on the internet hasn't lead to real world harm in a number of ways for several groups of minorities is preposterous and dangerous to ignore how we got to where we are.

3.Of course I care about women being harassed in public but going after trans people does sod all to help them. My honest opinion is that all this energy towards trans people and how they need to be banned to keep woman and girls safe is just a distraction to help some women pretend they can protect themselves from SA. When the truth is, it's basically legal in this country. With a less than 2% the fact is there is very little reason for predatory men not to do what they like, and no sign on a door will stop them.

Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I have work in the morning so will be signing off for the night.

Why should we make life a bit worse for everyone for the sake of 0.5% of the population. This is throwing the baby out with the bath water.

We cannot go around pretending that most people don’t notice sex, or that it doesn’t matter. It just isn’t true. In normal life, we all notice it and most people prefer single sex spaces for some aspects of life.

We have some mixed sex toilets where I work (University) and some man stand and piss with the door open. It is not nice. The doors are sealed all round, it would be an excellent place to get assaulted. And in fact, on the inside of the door is the phone number for security and the cubicle number so women can tell them where they are hiding on a night out gone wrong.
Why should women put up with this?

What is wrong with a couple of self enclosed single user universal toilets alongside single sex multiple user cubicles that we have almost everywhere.

WHY do we have to make it worse for everyone??

We just need to say no to the mostly men who are making the misogynistic demands. I can’t imagine why op finds that so unpalatable as such a right thinking person.

While not ideal I do think the solution we are heading to is all gender neutral facilities. I'm not personally thrilled with it but I'm sure many here are even less so.

I do think before we get there though there will be more harassing and violence for all minorities in this country as it seems many people have lost any sense of shame to keep their hateful opinions to themselves.

Oh yes. And apparently if I came on here, I’d be shocked by the hate and depravity and the calls for violence. The ones he and his friends made were different though and they had to be like that because evil women were saying no.

Once again, do none of you have day jobs to be at? Only a few mins to reply just now but to answer your question I think all threats of violence are abhorrent but this thread was specifically about how social media, including mumsnet but also others, have whipped up mobs online that are now spilling over into the real world. That includes anti-trans, anti-immigrant and all the Andrew Tate ant-women nonsense.

I just looked up one of the women mentioned above who has been threatened Kellie-Jay Keen and this is one of the first things on her profile: https://x.com/ThePosieParker/status/2099716166578999722

And I quote: "I don’t care if perverts are treated badly by others in public. The more torment and shame the better, if you ask me."

as a direct response to the video I mentioned in the beginning.

So forgive me if, give this evidence clear as day, I don't believe the posters claiming they don't agree with her. She seems to be quite a figurehead and is actively saying that the innocent trans person in the video deserved what happened in that train station. Even calling for more!

Are you now going to tell me that actively calling for more of this behavior against trans women just going about their day in public is just pro-woman or can you have some decency to concede that this is anti-trans, plain and simple?

And kjk was banned from mumsnet years ago so how is anything that she says the responsibility of women or even men who post on mumsnet which was your initial claim

Whoachino · 15/09/2026 13:42

Some posts are awful. Some posters are awful. Some people are awful.

But the majority are not.

I am gender critical. I am sceptical about the word itself, and I certainly don't believe that considering oneself female makes one a female. But I wouldn't abuse a trans person, or anyone else. I would treat them respectfully, try to abide by their wishes and be as friendly to them as to anyone else. I just disagree with them on this one thing which, obviously, to them is potentially massively important. I'm sorry about that, but don't tar me with the same brush as people who scream obscenities and act violently. That's like saying anyone right of centre politically is the same as Tommy Robinson.
