I kind of know it is but can’t seem to stay away … anyone else?

MN can be very entertaining.
I thought having a laugh was good for mental health ?

It did have humour once but that’s largely gone. I can’t remember when I last found something funny.

@shuggles- OK but you know what I mean. Staring at a small screen/pressing buttons/arguing with strangers etc etc lots of similarities. :)

Oh I see. It wasn't very clear tbh.

It was perfectly clear!

Do normal people not browse the internet using a computer?

I don’t own a computer! I do everything on my phone.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 14/09/2026 17:38

Oh gosh. Thanks for the kind words @FringedAnd, @Uricon2 , @Happyjoe and @nomas. They mean a lot.

I've been finding it a bit depressing recently, and I genuinely don't think it's good for my mental health. However, I thought that last time and then ended up coming back, so taking my time to think about it this time.

@Uricon2 I might feel a name change coming on!

It was perfectly clear but we all make mistakes. Ridicule the poster's getting is unfair.

Easy enough to say sorry when we make a mistake though.

ArseSkinForAFriend · 14/09/2026 15:05

Perfectly clear to me too.

In fact I actually can't read it wrong, even though I've tried.

YvieYfronts · 14/09/2026 17:27

It is shit in that places like AIBU makes me realise how many people are actually incredibly judgemental. However, I don't think AIBU represents the general population who are far less angry with the world so that's comforting.
The Dog House is lovely though

Yes, OP. I deleted my account previously because I realised that it wasn't helping me, but then I stupidly came back. I am currently considering whether or not to delete it again.

Is there anything in particular that you're struggling with?

Another one saying you're one of the good ones, MrsB.

MN is getting bleaker though.

Uricon2 · 14/09/2026 17:22

Another ask for @MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack to stay.

Just think, if you dereg and rejoin, your name will have to be something like @ MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBackAndMrBennetIsStillHopeless

I went cold turkey on all meta platforms after reading Careless People by Sarah Wynn Williams, the Facebook whistleblower.

mumsnet is therefore my methadone.

HollyhocksandPeons · 14/09/2026 16:59

Come on, there must be some posts that have helped you? Maybe you could give yourself just one day a week to look at things on MN? There is some really good advice on here often.

Tbf this is true but if I get fifty responses and three shitty ones I focus on them and I don’t know why!

Don't go!! You will be missed :-)

To me it's just a shocking waste of time. My ironing pile is getting bigger..

I know sorry 😂 maybe I need to take it all less seriously. Horrible posts really upset and annoy me.

When I come across posts like this, I simply hide the whole thread.
I used to get really annoyed, wound up.

Now I remind myself of tye cartoon of the guy on a computer saying ‘but someone on the internet is wrong!’

Thats usually enough to make me stop, laugh at myself and hide the thread.

(seeing your post, Ive also NOT read previous posters 😂😂)

Whatwerewetalkingabout · 14/09/2026 17:10

I'm with you OP, its not so much the topics that upset me, but I need to stop coming on here so much and doom scrolling. Its an absolute joyless time sink sometimes.

Edit Having said that I found it really helpful when I first came across MN and the TTC threads, its also been helpful when I've asked questions in the past.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 14/09/2026 17:09

...writing for clarity shouldn't require such multivariate parsing.
😂

Op honestly, just go outside and do some stuff when you feel it is making you feel bad. Is it anxiety or depression? I know my anxiety meds are off when I post a lot or start getting a bit too tin foil hat on here. I now use it as a version of an internal monitor for how I am doing. When you feel better within yourself it doesn't feel as personal.

Social media in general is so bad for us and we're all bloody addicted! I put my phone in another room /out of sight and do other things to stop me wasting my life ( still do a lot of that too obvs ;))

An online message board is not "social media."

Online forums predate social media by many many years.

moderate · 14/09/2026 17:04

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 14/09/2026 15:13

Yes. And to other posters as well. You seem to be the only one who struggled with it, so instead of the pp needing to write more clearly, perhaps you need to read more carefully.

FWIW, it wasn't clear to me either.

"account", "phone", "cupboard", "DP", "anyone" and "password" were all more proximate referents for "it" than "Mumsnet" at the point of usage.

It was possible to extract the intended meaning from context, but writing for clarity shouldn't require such multivariate parsing.

Especially during Covid and certain people banging on about killing a granny or something.

I think it was very clear. It's posters that you who probably have a negative impact on people's mental health. Writing shitty responses for no real purpose.
