No, it wasn't "just an accident". It was an accident which was totally avoidable with a minimal amount of common sense and forethought. If the door was opaque, that is all the more reason to be careful.

The colleague almost certainly didn't do this on purpose but surely any normal person would be mortified at having hurt someone and would apologise. And hopefully learn from the experience and resolve to take more care in future. As it is she just seems to be brushing off the consequences of her carelessness.

I think it would be entirely appropriate for the OP to make a quiet point that she was actually hurt by this incident, enough to embarrass the careless mare who knocked her over

It doesn’t even say if she fell to the ground, so broken jaw is a bit of a stretch. Surely broken ankle would sound more realistic.

This needs to be reported under your workplace health and safety using an Accident/Incident Report (AIR) form. After the initial submission, one of your Locally Nominated Health & Safety Officers (LNHSO) should contact you to talk about the incident. Make sure you tell them everything, including any medical reports you might have. Also include how it made you feel & continues to make you feel. This could have been far more serious (facial injuries, broken nose or jaw) & your workplace needs to do something about the door & your colleague.

How do you know they didn't fit "properly"? they could have been court shoes, heeled mules, whatever. Suitable for an office. As well you know. Talk about blaming the victim.

It was the coworker's heedless action that set in motion the circumstances that caused the OP's injury, not the OP's choice of footwear.

And for those posters who are saying it was just an accident as though that relieves the coworker of any responsibility, do you think the coworker's action was unreasonable? Or negligent? A person does not have to intentionally cause harm in order to be responsible for it.

How do you know it's "hyperbole"? We have no reason to believe it did not happen exactly like that.

OP wasn’t out in the town drunk on a Saturday though in silly heals was she. She was sober at work, even in heels they shouldn’t be that easy to come off

Doesn’t absolve her from apologising or checking that the person she hurt is OK. Certainly doesn’t entitle her to make a joke out of somebody else’s injury.
