If you’ve planned a 40th birthday party, how far in advance did you plan it?

I’ve recently got a couple of invitations to relatives 40ths and 70ths for next June and November- my own 40th is next July and it’s made me wonder if I need to get myself sorted!

It does seem quite early but one of them said they already struggled with dates for the venue they wanted (and it is just a fairly normal social club in their town so not something that would get booked up unusually fast) plus whereas my 2027 barely has anything scheduled yet, I did last week get a notification that tickets are on sale for an event I had been planning on- and it is the same day as the 70th. So this advance notice has saved me spending £40 on something I wouldn’t attend (as the 70th comes first for me).

Do I just have very organised relatives or is this a standard approach due to venues and people getting busy?

My 50th I told everyone a year earlier (on my birthday). I was planning on going to a local Michelin starred country place with DH and DD, so said to family and a couple of close friends “I’m doing this, I would love you to come, but know it’s expensive, so fine if you can’t”.
Gave people a year to save, but there was no expectation.

Depends how picky you are about the venue and guest list. People do book holidays a year in advance or make other plans like work trips, weddings, concerts etc. so if you want to ensure as many people as possible can attend then there’s no harm in being organised.
