Why hasn’t Michael Jackson been cancelled??

His music is still brilliant and extremely popular decades later. He was a very talented individual. I wouldn't employ him as a babysitter but I always sing along when one of his songs is on.

What you want isn't cancellation, it's erasure.
Musically, MJ was one of a kind. You can't wipe off decades of music that has shaped pop culture for a whole generation. It's just not possible.

I’m with you OP - can’t understand this love for him at all. When I made it clear to my teens that I wouldn’t be going to see a film about a paedophile they were surprised and gave me the line that he was never convicted. I think he was as guilty as hell and I used to like his music so it’s not because I never liked him. Scott Mills has been completely cancelled for way way less. I’m not a big fan of him but it seems very odd to me that MJ’s “crimes” have totally been forgotten.

I used to switch stations whenever an MJ song came on. Then I watched the movie “Michael” and now I just feel sorry for him.

I grew up opposite Stoke Mandeville hospital and Saville was always about the hospital and down the local shop. He was always hanging about my sisters school too. I knew a couple of nurses from the hospital and they said he was weird and they all ran when they saw him coming.

His victims were young boys of colour (usually) so they don't matter as much as his music. It's disgusting. He was a predatory paedophile.

Absolute love Michael Jackson music (GenX here) still love his music, it’s iconic, my daughter (24) and all her friends love his music too

Just seen upthread R Kelly was mentioned. His victims get money from his songs being played I believe which I hope helps them hugely.

No you absolutely don't have to separate one from the other. That's such a ridiculous thing to say.

It’s separating art from the artist for a lot of people but recently there has been a lot of conspiracy that he didn’t do it and he was actually protecting children. I wish that was true as a fan of his music. I don’t listen to his music because I believe he was an abuser but I did love his albums.
Im not adverse to all conspiracy theories, but this one I am, I don’t think he built Neverland for the safety of children, I believe he abused children for sexual gratification. It’s a lovely idea, he was so pure and the establishment planned to hunt him down for protecting kids, but highly unlikely.
And if MJ wasn’t physically abusing those children, sleeping in their bed, lowering their guard and pushing boundaries is still grooming and I imagine that would have went somewhere.
When you have an artist with as many wonderful songs and albums as MJ it’s very difficult to cancel them. Gary Glitter it would have been easy because he didn’t have a plethora of songs that got the air time as much as the my gang song did, as where MJ has so many bangers spanning decades that cancelling him would be so much more difficult.
I can’t imagine anyone ever listening to the music from Ian Watkins ever again either but I am sure I read somewhere that they still have 1000s of listeners on Spotify but I didn’t check and don’t want to either.
I think MJ has us all to an extent groomed, when we think of Gary glitter or savile or Ian Watkins, we shudder, we have that feeling of evil and disgust. When I think of MJ as someone who did harm children, I think of him as a sad lost soul and the disgust doesn’t hit me the same way. Maybe it’s hope because he wasn’t charged and was cleared, maybe people feel maternal towards him because we know of his childhood and have seen videos of that cute little boy and those emotions are their before the reality sinks in. But yes, I think the public have a very unusual relationship with MJ.

I agree, I was a fan, but now I’m shocked that anyone thinks it’s ok to play his music. I do walk off the dance floor if he’s played.

Because people don’t speak up enough. I went on a Charity shop browse not so long ago. One (a children’s charity) was playing Michael Jackson in the shop. Another was selling Russell Brand’s book. I told both of them what I thought of that.

He was an outstanding and seriously talented individual and you have to try to separate that from his alledged crimes.

Jimmy Savile was never found guilty of anything. That doesn't mean he wasn't guilty.
