Why hasn’t Michael Jackson been cancelled??

I’ve been out at a 80s day disco today… loads of fun. But it struck me that people were still delighted by MJ… why? He was a wrong ‘un of the very worst kind. How come he hasn’t been cancelled?!

People aren't events. They can't be 'cancelled' it's a stupid word fad, mostly used by teenagers and immature adults. Grow up.

Besides, the guys dead, how much more cancelled can you get?

If you check out that episode of 60 Minutes , he did abuse a girl too.... but it seems his preference was largely boys.
She was part of a fanily of 3 or 4 and he abused all them (1 sister and the rest brothers) after years and years of grooming.

The grooming was insane, it's playing the long game... he gained their trust and love for YEARS. Just like he groomed the families and the world to accept his weird behaviour with children ...

That family are proven liars and was thrown out of court

user293948849167 · 13/09/2026 09:48

This again….

Because the families who accused him were actually wrong’uns with form for doing anything for money

Leaving Neverland was full of inconsistencies and lies

The man was under surveillance by the FBI for 15 years and they didn’t find a shred of evidence against him

Several computers were sized from his homes and again nothing

There was a lengthy trial and he was found not guilty

Many of his friends support him to this day, some of them like Macauley Culkin were children at the time and have always supported him being innocent- he also doesn’t need money strange that

Not saying there wasn’t some problematic behaviour- but I will continue listening to his music thanks because he was an extremely talented artist and I can make my own mind up without people needing to be “cancelled”

Palomiino · 13/09/2026 09:47

This sort of thing would never fly today. Can you imagine? Walking around with these children like they were his date.

Name the girls who were his constant companions for a couple of years at a time like the boys were.

Im pretty sure the Lisa Marie Presley marriage was a publicity stunt to deflect from the negative press he was getting at the time.
Ive watched several series and documentaries about him, this year, and there was one of his agents/pr team and they almost said as much

Edited

Im pretty sure that the thirty something year old virgin king of pop was suddenly "attracted" to the daughter of the king of rock and roll...strange that? After him being a virgin for 30 odd years. Hmmmm

Even stranger he begged her in tears to have a child with him? What a legacy that would have been eh?

Thankfully she had enough sense to kick that to the kerb!

ZanyMaker · 13/09/2026 09:40

ThePeppyOpalScroller · 13/09/2026 09:36

Yes, but MJ was one of the most talented singers and entertainers that has ever lived. Jimny was a talentless, obnoxious paedophile.

But I think this is kind of the point of this thread - that it seems that the more talented someone is then the more they can get away with.

SukiPook · 13/09/2026 09:40

My theory is that is music is too well-loved for a lot of people to go there snd admit the truth about him. (Also, he has a lot of fans that seem completely deluded about him). Like, let's face it, nobody cares too much that Rolf Harros' or Gary Glitter's back catalogues have disappeared off the airwaves... but MJ's would indeed be a loss.
I think that people should be allowed to keep the art (if they want to listen) but should slso face up to the truth.
My string quartet ditched our version of Smooth Criminal, and I wish we hadn't because a) it's a great tune and b) his music definitely hasn't been cancelled.
But for those of you thinking he's not guilty or it's not proven and is just a handful of accusations.... look up the episode of 60 Minutes on youtube where they interview ANOTHER family who were all groomed and abused by him. He knew these kids so well, since the youngest was 2 years old, they were siblings and he was like the fun uncle, their best friend... he sexually abused all 4 of them over YEARS including the girl and each of thrm at the time thought they were the only one. The grooming was insane and for YEARS so of course they all trusted him. He started abusing each of them when they were between 8 to 11.
The similarities with the other accusations are striking.
If you watch these now adult siblings telling their stories and see the pain in their eyes you will know they are telling the truth. I think the victims need to be heard. How can MJ fans discount them?

At the ssme time, I still love the tunes! I think that should be a separate thing. I also still love Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland too even though the authors were probably dodgy....

Girls IE the sisters, Michael's cousin's etc would also be on sleepovers but this was never mentioned as it doesn't fit the narrative does it?

If you read her book she states he was a virgin when they started their relationship.

A thirty something virgin who had children in his bed, alarms on the doors and magazines with naked children....

But let's ignore the obvious a duck quacking like a duck

His musical legacy is another thing of course.

I’ve read her book and she says they had a physical relationship.

So is Jimmy Saville but none of his old tv programmes are repeated anywhere. They’ve even taken Scott Mills presented Top of the Pops off IPlayer.

PPAPPINE · 13/09/2026 09:36

He wasn’t investigated by the FBI for 10 years. The FBI assisted in some investigations into him. Over the span of 10 years. It’s incredibly difficult to prove sexual assault as we all know. One of the victims accurately described MJs penis. This wasn’t used in court. There is a lot of false information out there, made up by fans. Really as another poster said it comes down to whether anyone is really lacking in the brain cell department enough to believe that this grown man (no matter how weird and eccentric and abused himself) was really desperate to have sleepovers with children and locking them in his bedroom innocently.

WigglywagglyWanda · 13/09/2026 09:33

It's so funny how people believe this narrative about him only hanging out with boys of a certain age etc. they ignore that he had plenty of siblings and girls who also stayed. There are girls on you tube who talk about this and their stories never get printed. The press leave out that as doesn't fit the narrative.

The press leave it out cos it’s bollocks. I’ve never, by the grace of something, been raped. Shall I pop over to a rape trial and say “well he never touched me!” Rapists don’t rape EVERYBODY they come in to contact with.

This is utter nonsense. RKelly was one of the most successful artists of his time. He continued selling records after a sex tape of him pissing on a 14 year old was released on the internet. SNL did a sketch about it. He topped the charts in the months and years following. I remember I believe I can fly and ignition from the my childhood. He was convicted for child pornography the same year ignition came out.

He doesn’t fill dance floors any more because he’s in prison and for some reason that seems to be the only thing that will actually stop radio stations/DJs. In no way was ever close to ‘fading away’. His songs are just as good now as they were then.

The teens of today play Jackson because the Jackson family have devoted their lives to keeping him culturally relevant.

You're surprised radio DJs support paedos?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 13/09/2026 09:29

I was 💯 sure that he was guilty too. I didn’t listen to his music for years and years. I have went down a bit of a rabbit hole about it recently.
I think he was set up, he was foolish to ever have sleepovers with children, who does that? It’s 💯 strange but not sure if it was from a place of lust. Looking back on his interview with Oprah and many others, he was like a child trapped in a man’s body. He was surrounded by toxic men and women in a toxic environment, one that was full of child sexually abusing people.
If my child had an abundance of talent I wouldn’t want them going into the industry of Holly Babylone of filth.

R Kelly, J Saville and whoever else mentioned just don't compare to MJ. They would have faded away with or without their convictions.

MJ on the other hand is probably one of the most influential artists and his music is outstanding. Always a hit on the dance floor. It hasn't dated and the teens of today play his music.

He was a sad lonely person deeply affected by the abuse by his father. He was not convicted. However I wouldn't leave my DC with him but don't mind them listening to a bit of MJ.

Artists write songs about their own lives and feelings.

There is no evidence that he was attracted to adults.

Repulsive.

Indeed

I was prolific on past threads on this subject so won't repeat myself, but seeing the same old usernames popping up to defend a child abuser because he was the king of pop is staggering.

And on the actual subject of the thread...i think the old fans don't care and the new fans don't know the actual details of what this man did.

I admit that historically we have artists and authors who were less than perfect and I actually can separate the artists work from his/her personal life.

In Jacksons case, I find because I've heard so many details and actually believe the victims (notice his fans put that word in speech marks because thsy can't even admit it) I just have the biggest repulsion when his music is played. I would never say "cancel" because it's impossible due to his worldwide historical musical legacy, but on a personal level I find the man a monster.

I don’t think you can listen to songs like ‘The Way you make me feel’ without being aware that these songs were likely about people too young to consent.

There are literally hundreds of victims and witnesses regarding Saville - he was a monster

Savile abused anyone he could get his hands on. MJ had a type and the way he carried out the abuse was different. He was never violent.

Some people are more than their music, but for other people their music is more than them. He's the latter. Plus he's dead and therefore not profiting.
For the most part I agree in cancelling celebrities like the nonce in Lost Prophets. But I think MJ's music is just so damn good and he was found not guilty (not enough evidence). But mostly I think his music is so much part of the mainstream culture that it is hard to remove him.

I do think he's definitely not played that much on radio anymore and don't really hear him at weddings etc but still on occasion his music is played and I've never heard anyone boo it like they would others.

I hate the idea that someone can be so talented that we ignore they're probably a kiddy fiddler, but I think it really is the case. Plus he had a really difficult and brutal childhood which I think provides an explanation (not an excuse) and people are willing to accept that.

Yes and Jimmy Seville was a philanthropist who gave lots of money to the hospital, so shut up you silly girl. Those are the words of a nurse that a girl disclosed her abuse by Saville to.

It’s clear the poster you are responding to was talking about MJs victims, the ones he took to his bed. Not the kids he used as cover, to fool people like you.
