My son has just turned 2 and seems to constantly be getting into scrapes at the moment.
I’ve baby proofed the house and try to keep my eyes on him but I just feel like whenever I turn my back for a second he’s done something to get hurt.
In the last week there have been 3 incidents that feel like I have been really lucky that they didn’t end up more serious :
- I put him in his (baby proofed) room while I went to the loo and he climbed up onto the headboard of his bed & fell off, banging his head & getting a nose bleed
- I’d just made his dinner & was putting some stuff in the dishwasher while it cooled down and he used the draw handles to climb up & pull down a bowl of hot water that I’d used to steam his veg. I thought I’d put it back far enough from his reach but just didn’t cross my mind he would try to climb up
- We went to a cafe this morning and he climbed up on the bench seat and managed to fall head first onto the floor. We had been holding hands and he wriggled out my grip and ran across to the bench and fell before my brain even caught up with what was happening.
The hot water incident was definitely my fault as I should have just poured it down the sink straight away but I just feel like he’s doing things that don’t even occur to me. i come from a very girl heavy family and all my friends have girls so this is my first experience of a toddler boy & he’s just so fast and fearless and inquisitive.
Also my husband travels for work so I don’t have a spare pair of eyes keeping an eye on my boy and it does mean I do have to do things like cooking and light chores whilst keeping an eye on my son which I don’t think is helping.
None of my friends can relate to any of this so I’m just wondering if this is just normal toddler boy behaviour or if I’m not being cautious enough ?
