This bill was about others killing you.

I’m in principle in favour, but this bill and the legislative process was a farce. It hasn’t worked out that well in Canada. Virtually all disability organisations oppose the bill.

I hope at some point we get a good and safe system for assisted suicide. I don’t think this was it, and the behaviour of “my” side has made me a bit less certain of whether it can be done.

Are you the right person to be asking where the moderate, sensible politics went?

If we want good politics we need to give up that sort of nonsense.

My MP voted for the bill and was disappointed it didn't pass.

I too am sad that politicians have taken away my ability to choose to end my suffering in my own time in my own way.

What a nasty thing to wish for another human being.

Some of it is due to politicians serving vested interests.

Some of it is politicians learn a lot more about topics than the general public.

I read some MPs switched their vote on assisted dying after doubts were raised about whether it could be made to work safely, not because they opposed on principle?

Clearly not as important as electoral reform or EU membership

I’m really disappointed the Assisted Death bill didn’t go through.

Add in nationalisation - more people support nationalisation of transport and utilities than not.

Because Britain is not a democracy, MPs have to worry about their future careers, and so just go with the party narrative dictated by on high, where the country is run to suit London and help the rich get richer.

Sometimes the right thing to do is not the popular thing to do.

I could easily get 52% of the electorate to vote for free money.

Maybe being governed by the masses isn't a great idea.

Whether or not we trust the people who we choose to protect ourselves from ourselves is another matter.

Also - i was for the assisted dying bill. I understand the concerns, but i dont think theyre strong enough to deny someone dignity at their end.

You do already get to chose. Its not illegal to take your own life. You could plan a head. Assisted dying is someone taking someone else's life legally. There would be lots of safe guards at first to get it legalised then they'd start changing the criteria. They'd do it to save money on pensions and nhs costs. They'd wipe out dementia care homes.

And the shelves in England and Wales are still stacked high with cheap junk foods.

Not sure where you're shopping, but BOGOF and 3 for 2 are fairly common Scotland-wide. England and Wales already went live with their versions of these laws, so people have some idea of what will change after the Scottish laws come in October, since they are intentionally harmonised.

I agree that we need properly funded and good palliative care

But it will not save you from some of the horrific things that can happen in your final months. Things people shouldn’t have to live through, that I would rather not describe on this thread.

Can you provide evidence that assisted dying would be more costly than the cost of care a person would need?

Also, this should not be about money. This is literally life and death.
