To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

I very rarely have any kind of dessert at home. I would far rather have an extra helping of savoury dinner. I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I almost never choose a dessert in a restaurant.

Zanatdy · 10/09/2026 20:42

I do - usually low calorie ice cream

Viviennemary · 10/09/2026 20:42

No most folk I know don't. All too busy dieting.

ChickenRunRunRun · 10/09/2026 20:38

Chocolate at the weekend. Weekdays I have an apple.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/09/2026 20:37

I wonder if it becomes habit from years back. My fathers family had a good deal less money than my mothers, and more kids including 4 hulking lads. So Grandad would always make a big stodgy pudding to fill them up as a small amount of money had to go a long way.

My mother rarely had pudding as there was enough food to fill her up at dinner. As a result, we weren't brought up with pudding or snacks and its just not on our radar.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who don’t struggle to control their weight so they can enjoy having a pudding every day. Lucky them. But for those of us who do struggle, it’s not really an option.

If people eat well during the day and exercise, a pudding is 100% doable. I eat 1700 calories a day and manage several biscuits or a regular size chocolate bar within that (easily)

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/09/2026 20:31

Never have pudding unless it is part of a formal meal.

ETA no snacks either

AgnesX · 10/09/2026 20:30

We have a cuppa and a biscuit and have been having that instead of a pudding for as long as I can remember (decades!)

runnerducky · 10/09/2026 20:30

Yes! Some chocolate after dinner with a cup of tea is an evening staple for me. I have a sweet treat every day. Sometimes twice!

ZoePonytail · 10/09/2026 20:27

I eat super-healthily all day - my treat is some chocolate after dinner

Craftycariad · 10/09/2026 20:27

I don't consider a pudding as snacking it is part of our evening meal we have a 2 course evening meal and no snacking between meals.

Ansjovis · 10/09/2026 20:27

I never eat after dinner. I find I sleep so much better since I made that change.

Yuja · 10/09/2026 20:26

We have fruit. Unless we are having people over at the weekend or going to family then there might be a proper desert but on standard days just a bit of fruit

Lord. Are the posters here really representative of the average person? It’s an extremely unusual day for me if I don’t have something sweet. Quite often twice a day.

WattThreeWords · 10/09/2026 20:24

Yep, every day. I eat a very balanced diet, plenty of exercise. Fruit, veg, protein. But this is MN and everyone is too full after their massive salads.

Flannelfeet · 10/09/2026 20:19

Mince pies? Fuck sake, its nowhere near Christmas!! Maniac! Where did you buy them? 🤫. 🤣

Every supermarket has been selling the since the start of the month. Every year my DD buys and eats them by November she can't look one in the face

Lizzieregina · 10/09/2026 20:23

Always! Nothing extravagant, but we always have a little something about an hour after dinner. No other snacking though.

JustSawJohnny · 10/09/2026 20:23

Always have something sweet after lunch & dinner but I don't go mad - fruit, yoghurt or a couple of dates at lunch, a small 50 calorie lolly or a square of dark chocolate after dinner.

I just have to have something sweet - it doesn't have to be much.

MissAmbrosia · 10/09/2026 20:22

No, not as a matter of course. If eating out, I might have a pudding, or on holiday an ice cream, but never had, nor offered dd when she was younger, at home.

Don't feel.like I have had a 'proper' meal without a pud to follow the savoury...though usually have to make it myself as rest of family not really bothered. Rhubarb or apple crumble in season or Bakewell tart.

LindorDoubleChoc · 10/09/2026 20:20

I don't but I have absolutely no idea what other people do.

OrdinaryMoment · 10/09/2026 20:20

No, no in our house. The exception is if we have guests coming for a meal (very rare) then I do have a desert to offer but not routinely.

Dearg · 10/09/2026 20:20

Very rarely. Might have an Affogato if out for dinner, but only at Christmas when at home. Not really got a sweet tooth.

luckylavender · 10/09/2026 20:20

Very very occasionally.

Error404FucksNotFound · 10/09/2026 20:20

We don't. My sister and her family dont. My mum eats sweet stuff instead of food rather than after. A friend of mine does. I dont know about anyone else in my life because theyve never said.
