To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

I certainly don't wait until just after dinner.

twocornichons · 10/09/2026 22:16

Love the smug posts of those saying they have something every night but are still slim. It’s not about weight it’s about health ! You can be slim and unhealthy and bigger and healthy- sugar is pouring flames on the fire of whatever we’ve got in our genes that could click into “on” mode - these smug posts of “still slim” are sending me .

AInightingale · 10/09/2026 22:16

I think it's probably better to do this after dinner rather than eat anything, esp. sweet stuff, later in the evening. Think you're meant to let your insulin levels fall gradually after about 7pm not send them shooting up with biscuits or chocolate before bed. But all food will do this obviously.

It's interesting because in the days when fewer people were overweight, it was the norm to have a pudding after dinner earlier in the evening, but probably not to snack after that time, snacking ('eating between meals') was very much frowned on.

Lord. Are the posters here really representative of the average person? It’s an extremely unusual day for me if I don’t have something sweet. Quite often twice a day.

i was thinking the same. The shelves in the supermarket tell a different story as do the concession stands, bakeries and dessert places on high streets. Any work meal, restaurant menu etc has a pudding section. Maybe people eat these cakes, biscuits and confectionery during the day and just not after a meal.

NewNewYork · 10/09/2026 22:08

Every night without fail. Always been slim as an adult.

But that's it, I don't do crisps, biscuits, snacking or heavy drinks like lattes in the day.

I eat like a snake: massive dinner around 7pm, chocolate or ice cream between 8-9pm, then no breakfast and a light lunch , like crackers and cheese.

I bloody love food and look forward to my evening eating.

Catladywithacat · 10/09/2026 22:01

No I don’t never have since I was a kid

SquirrelGG · 10/09/2026 21:55

I don't know about most people but I do like to finish my evening meal with something sweet, usually a biscuit or cake.

Thingsthatgo · 10/09/2026 21:53

My DH feels like a meal isn’t finished unless he has something sweet. I do crave sweet things after dinner, probably because of my 1980s childhood! (Blancmange anyone?) But it usually passes if I wait 10 minutes. My DCs can take it or leave it, which is probably a good thing.

renovationchoas · 10/09/2026 21:51

I eat with the kids in the week quite early, so I often have a bit of yoghurt at 8, or some fruit/nuts or a glass of milk or perhaps a square of dark chocolate to wake me up if I have fallen asleep on a bedroom floor putting someone to sleep to wake me up a bit, but not a proper pudding.

Londonrach1 · 10/09/2026 21:48

Yes strawberries, raspberries or yogurt.

Magicpaintbrush · 10/09/2026 21:47

AFPotts · 10/09/2026 21:37

@Magicpaintbrush How are you with having chocolate in the house, could you just have a small piece and leave the rest?

I can't ever stop at having just one piece, it doesn't work. I've tried not keeping chocolate in the house but eventually end up buying some because otherwise I'm climbing the walls. I managed to break my addiction to diet coke, but chocolate (or puddings) has proved impossible. I think I would be a dress size smaller otherwise. Can hypnosis help with stuff like this?

nomoremsniceperson · 10/09/2026 21:46

The kids have something small and sweet after dinner every day. We started it as part of the Ellyn Satter approach to a healthy relationship with food. Me and DH only eat something sweet that late at night occasionally. I prefer to only eat sugary stuff earlier in the day.

JaceLancs · 10/09/2026 21:42

At lunchtime I will have a yoghurt or some fruit after my salad or sandwich
In the evening we never have a dessert other than for a special occasion

AyeOopDuck · 10/09/2026 21:40

Over the last 2 weeks I had rhubarb pie and custard one day and then on one other I had some chocolate digestives. I had tangerines a couple of times as well. It’s a sweet thing once a week for us.

Yellowchair1 · 10/09/2026 21:38

Yes I do, and do the same for my child. But it's often fruit, though sometimes cake/ ice cream / pudding (& we are both very slender!). I think it is better than snacking like a lot of people do

gothicbat · 10/09/2026 21:37

No I don’t. My DC have natural yoghurt.

AFPotts · 10/09/2026 21:37

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 10/09/2026 21:36

Nope never. I don’t even have a pudding in restaurants.

CoventryCity · 10/09/2026 21:36

The only people I know who do that, are quite overweight.

southofscotland · 10/09/2026 21:36

Nope, I generally prefer savoury over sweet. I do like sweet things and will enjoy an Easter egg or advent calendar (no point if it isn’t chocolate!) but I don’t need or want something sweet after dinner. I know plenty who do though so it’s not unusual.

Sunnybeachday · 10/09/2026 21:33

I don’t routinely, as usually full enough, but if I do fancy something sweet later in the evening, I’ll have it.
Those I know who do generally came from families who had dessert after dinner and it’s not something we did.

HereComesTheNight · 10/09/2026 21:30

I never used to have a sweet tooth but that changed in my 60s.
I usually make a crumble at the weekend and during the week I'll have a huge bowl of ice cream a couple of nights a week. No weight issues but I eat healthy and no snacks otherwise.

SamPoodle123 · 10/09/2026 21:27

No, we never do this. Kids get pudding at school after their lunch and that is more then enough. If I want something sweet ill have some fruit at some point in the day. I will have a treat once in a blue moon if I fancy it. I enjoy an ice cream maybe a couple times every few months or so. I enjoy candy/chocolate around halloween and holidays or the very random odd treat. I do have my one coffee in the morning w a little sugar, so that is something sweet.

Every supermarket has been selling the since the start of the month. Every year my DD buys and eats them by November she can't look one in the face

I never knew this.... i do love a mince pie, warm and covered in double cream 😋, now I need to be a greedy bugger and find some tomorrow. Oohhhh mince pies in September, yum, yum. 🤣🤣🤣.

😄 you've asked everyone you know have you?

i haven’t asked them but we have conversations about stuff like that all the time
