To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

Don’t have pudding but will have a biscuit/ protein bar with cup of tea later

Yetanothername3 · 11/09/2026 04:42

I do not have a sweet tooth, so very unusual for me to want anything sweet, such as pudding, on a regular basis.
Formal dinner parties will have both a pudding and a cheese course, but I will probably only eat a bit of cheese and that only if hungry.

I wouldn't recommend crack to be enjoyed once or twice a week but not in front of the kids!

Maybe not but I have to avoid chocolate or sweet things more than once in a blue moon otherwise I’d want it all the time.

It becomes a craving for me and the ups and downs of blood sugar would also make me much hungrier much of the time. I didn’t realise that until I changed my eating pattern to be a bit healthier because I was worried about being pre-diabetic. I found out that eating more fibre and protein and eliminating sugar for a while made me much less hungry once I’d eliminated the cravings.

I rarely feel faint with hunger these days but I used to all the time as a child probably because we ate so many carb laden foods: lots of mashed potatoes, chips, pies, sugar in tea, cola, sweetened yogurts etc.

I don’t deprive myself at all and eat lots of really tasty foods. I even have chocolate and pudding occasionally. Just not regularly enough to be a habit because I know how tedious it is trying to go cold turkey with the cravings and it lasts for weeks before you get over them.

But I’ve never had puddings as routine since I was an adult. I’d be huge if I did. And I’ve never given them to my kids either although I haven’t stopped them eating sweet things from time to time when we were out and about or the odd treat at home. I remember people bringing sweets for their kids after school but my kids never needed them or asked for them and I found it a bit odd.

Reading this one would think you were talking about crack or something 😂

I doubt many people have an actual pudding every day, though many probably reach for the chocolate or the biscuit tin more often than they care to admit.

magikarpediem · 11/09/2026 03:31

We do, but I tend to prefer mine in bed with a cuppa at the end of the day. I’m craving it from dinner onwards.

We are a bit overweight but I don’t even care. Life’s too short to deprive myself. I’d love to be the kind of person than doesn’t want sweet stuff though!

Augustus40 · 11/09/2026 02:50

I never do no. I grew up with desserts but moved away to London age 19 and lived my own life. Perhaps I am wrong but I have always perceived having desserts the whole time rather old fashioned. Different strokes for different folks.

Strawberrydelight78 · 11/09/2026 02:05

I usually do some Greek yogurt with some frozen berries mixed in. I do it before I start on tea by the time we have eaten it’s defrosted. Very rarely we have a dessert sometimes do some jelly’s angel delight or ice cream or ice lollies when it’s warmer.

ProjectFailScary · 11/09/2026 01:46

only sometimes, and even then it might only be a couple of biscuits or a Viennese whirl.

When I sit down to relax at about 9pm or 10pm I have a cup of tea and will have a biscuit or a bit of chocolate if I fancy it. I don’t have pudding every day though, maybe on a sunday but I only have breakfast and lunch on a sunday usually so might have a pud later on if I want it.

My Granda ate a pudding every day and my mum always had one growing up in the 50s and 60s. I think it was quite common to have a pudding most days back then stuff like sponge pudding, fruit crumbles and so on.

Edited

Your grandma sounds the same as my dad dinner wasn't over unless you had pudding 😊 I think it was more to fill you up back then 😊

Missey85 · 11/09/2026 01:29

No I don't 😊 I'll have dessert if I feel like it but not every night ❤️ I grew up with it all the time because dad was English and dessert was a given 😂 if I have something sweet I'll usually have it during the day 😘 because I'm a adult and can have cake whenever I like ❤️

Aintgointogoa · 11/09/2026 01:08

Nope. Not ever. Tho' my mum always made a pud, what with her big sons swarming the table 😄 I bought/made pudding for my son when he was at home / school etc, he liked a sweet treat.... but for myself, zilch. A cheeseboard is a very special after dinner thing for me. Or can replace dinner, yes. I am with a pp and the few squares of proper dark choc eaten standing up in front of the fridge 😜

I'm a slim with a sweet tooth. I sometimes think it's the crisp fans that put the weight on more.

And fruit isn't pudding. It's what you have if there's absolutely burning sweet left in the house.

Suppose it depends what you like.

Chocolate hasn't been the same for decades, but grapes, strawberries bananas and even raisins have, and they're delicious. I don't have these for pudding though, that's my breakfast and I look forward to it every day. I am gutted when breakfast is over and I have to wait a whole other day. I try and have 3 portions of fruit and 4-5 portions of vegetables in a day.

Occasionally I will have some mango with fresh cream though. That is a rare treat, and I love it.

Dery · 11/09/2026 00:46

I usually have an apple or some other fruit to wrap up a meal. I still overeat in a range of ways and could do with losing about 3 stone! But this is probably one of my healthier habits.

Kids do - fruit and yoghurt and ice cream on the weekend.

We join in on the weekend.

Yeah I try not to look at the calories on crisp packets. It’s scary.

I don’t have something straight after dinner (we eat around 6-6.30) but I always fancy a little something sweet with my (decaf) coffee around 8.30-9pm.

DH has a very sweet tooth and has been known to have a spoonful of jam straight from the jar if there’s not much choice in the biscuit tin.

ElleintheWoods · 11/09/2026 00:11

No, I would only do this if I’m having a hard time, ie feeling cravings/ eating my feelings like stress, tiredness etc. If I notice myself doing it I pick up that something isn’t quite right. Also generally don’t keep desserts/ sweet snacks in the house unless special occasion.

Generally I do not eat dessert more than 1-2 times a week, no interest/ do not want sugary things. Maybe a few truffles on a Friday afternoon.

Plenty of fruit though if that counts

Macinae · 11/09/2026 00:07

We had cake every night when I was growing up but think it's because my nan lived with us and she expected it. After she passed we stopped, and now as an adult I don't eat dessert at home.

biffwellington · 11/09/2026 00:06

For us, no. But it isn't a conscious diet thing; we just don't routinely buy sweet things to have available in the house and neither of us are used to it as parents didn't give us pudding except on Sundays.

However we will occasionally snack on something sweet if the notion takes us, irrespective of time of day or meal had

echt · 11/09/2026 00:03

Sorry for the multiple posts. It wouldn't upload then did it all at once. Aargh.

echt · 11/09/2026 00:02

Like quite a few other posters I don't have pudding unless entertaining, and never in a restaurant. I don't like biscuits, cake or chocolate, so it's slim pickings if anyone drops in.
I do have fruit after dinner, which is something sweet of a kind.

I have no idea what other people do.

TheJuryIsOut · 10/09/2026 23:56

Yes I do, as do my kids. I was brought up having pudding at every meal and I have a massive sweet tooth so a meal doesn't feel complete unless I've had something sweet after it.
