To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

When I had children at home, yes, nearly always a hot or cold pudding or at least a fruit yoghurt.

Now they flown the nest I don't bother most days unless I'm entertaining or it's a weekend treat when I have more time to make something. I do like to use the apples and blackberries from garden to make crumble at this time of year.

I've stopped buying cakes and biscuits as well as I used to have a couple of biscuits with a cup of tea out of habit.. I started putting on weight with menopause so cutting that out was necessary step for me.

Member984815 · 11/09/2026 08:19

No , not usually but I don't like sweet things . Nothing wrong with it if you do

CarpeVitam · 11/09/2026 08:16

Maybe a couple of Rich Tea biscuits or a flapjack. And yes, most days.

Sesma · 11/09/2026 08:08

Most of MN seem to eat Greek yogurt with something like Trill on top and a handful of berries, this can't be representative of the whole country

JayJayj · 11/09/2026 07:53

I like something sweet but my husband never has. But that could be a yoghurt or chocolate or fruit. Not necessarily a “sweet”

How on earth do you possibly know what everyone in your circle eats? Are you the type who constantly discusses diet? A plate watcher maybe?

If you are active you can eat chocolate and other sweet treats.
I eat chocolate or cake every day. I’m slim, I walk a lot, the other two really slim friends of mine eat a lot of crap, they like me have a fast metabolism. I’m sure there are many other people like us.

Of course I don't know what everyone eats, that'd be weird. But the people I do know that do eat pudding / a sweet / a dessert after every main meal, are over weight.

GREEK yoghurt (it has to be Greek!) ✅
Fruit, fruit. Endless fruit (bonus points for 'berries') ✅
And the MN favourite: Two squares of dark chocolate ✅

This has got to be THE most predictable thread this week.

I’m actually laughing out loud reading it, and I’m a grumpasaurus in the morning so it must be funny.

I always make a pudding on a Sunday, pavlova/STP/tiramisu and because there’s only two of us that’ll last us until Tuesday. On Wednesday I usually make some kind of fruity cake (toffee apple this week).

I eat as intuitively as possible and if I don’t want it I don’t eat it, but if I have room and I do it’s there. No big deal.

Sartre · 11/09/2026 07:48

Yep we do. All perfectly normal weights and I’m a long distance runner plus do strength training so feel dessert is probably well earned! What we have varies day to day. Yesterday I decided to make a berry crumble and we had it with custard. I work FT but things like crumble literally take 15 mins to prepare max then 20 mins in the oven so easy.

Notsosweetcaroline · 11/09/2026 07:48

I have some fruit and a yoghurt normally. But we never have desserts although they were the norm growing up like most families.

we seldom have desserts in restaurants either, more likely to have a starter, if we wish more than one course, and when I have guests, which is often, I seldom do dessert, I will do a cheese board, but seldom dessert.

You just had to, didn’t you?! You just couldn’t resist getting a bit of shaming in

It's a factual statement / observation, in answer to the question. Nothing shaming about it, unless you choose take it that way.

Yep. I have a hot chocolate with at least 3 biscuits!

I mean i don't really eat much sweet stuff tbh. But i never understand the Two Squares of DARK chocolate brigade.
You either like sweet things, in which case two squares of bitter choc are not going to do it at all or you are not bothered. So why bother?
Unless it's some sort of good taste/class/not milk like the plebs stealth boast)🙄

AFPotts · 11/09/2026 07:28

@Magicpaintbrush I'm exactly the same as you, I've struggled with it for decades. I'm slim, but a dress size bigger than I would otherwise be. I hate feeling it has a hold over me. I don't have any other addictions (which I do see it as)

I tried hypnosis and it didn't work, I don't know if that's because the practitioner wasn't very good, or because deep down I resisted.

The only thing that reduces my cravings is eating very low carb (I believe that reduces your amount of ghrelin, the hunger hormone, similar to GLP-1 drugs), but I can't stick to that very long because I comfort eat carbs.

I might just have to accept it and take up running every day.

Quite a few people on here saying greek yoghurt, which to me a savoury thing.

Our DCs have yoghurt or fruit after dinner but DH and I don’t have anything. I’m already overweight, I’d be obese if I ate pudding every night.

CloudyWithAChanceOfCustard · 11/09/2026 06:37

Hardly ever…can’t even remember the last time. And as a child it wasn’t the norm in our family either…perhaps on a Sunday, occasionally, we’d have a bit of ‘fruit and ice cream’ (which would be tinned fruit and a slab of Neapolitan ice cream from KwikSave 😂)

Iocanepowder · 11/09/2026 06:33

JustMeHello · 11/09/2026 06:18

Starter and main every single time!

Starter, main, followed by another starter!

piscofrisco · 11/09/2026 06:31

I have to. I wish I could break it as a habit.

PickNMixwe · 11/09/2026 06:23

Yes a meal isn't complete without pudding for me.

WyrdHag · 11/09/2026 06:23

I do at the weekend, either on a Friday or Sunday night, maybe something nibbly on Saturday.

I don't really crave sweet stuff much anyway, if I do it tends to be after lunch/mid afternoon.

My mum is the polar opposite, I think she'd get withdrawal symptoms if you took away her daily Magnum!

JustMeHello · 11/09/2026 06:18

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/09/2026 21:22

Are you my ideal dining companion?!

I am the only person I know who wants the starter and the main, and get pressured into not having it because other people dont want to wait for me as they are "saving up" for pudding. Really pisses me off because they dont mind me sitting there with nothing in front of me while they have their dessert.

Starter and main every single time!

Deadleaves77 · 11/09/2026 05:27

I have some chocolate or a biscuit or a cornetto maybe 4 times a week. I dont think anyones having a full sticky toffee puddingor 3ayered chocolate cake as some posters are implying

My family growing up had pudding everyday which would usually be a homemade baked item, they still do and arent in the slightest bit overweight. A small pudding isn't a lot of calories and can easily fit into a 1800kcal day

Yello24 · 11/09/2026 05:26

No. Not in my circle of blueberry and plain water mums. My daughter has one close friend who always has pudding and always comments about it when she goes for tea there. I don’t know anyone else who serves pudding.
My niece has never been allowed sweets at all. She’s 4. Only fruit or plain Greek yogurt.

mumumental · 11/09/2026 05:16

I don’t.
