To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

Cos it's MN I can't tell if this poster is serious or joking!

They HAVE to be. 'A square of chocolate.' WTAF? 😂

And some days they go wild and have a whole grape. 😆

Incorrect. I know LOTS of sugar addicts (and alcoholics) who are quite skinny actually.
With regard to people who are overweight and eat a lot - IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU A BAD PERSON! Having a big appetite is a physiological glitch NOT A MORAL ONE!

I do wish people would get educated on this topic. I'm so done with weight shaming. People used to shame dyslexics as thick etc etc. Now we know better.
Not so, however, for people who struggle with eating issues. It really pisses me off (can you tel? lol)

Def not a moral issue. I never said it was. I think we've seen from the 'weight loss jabs' that over eating is usually a hormonal issue, which is why they work. They deal with the hormones. I eat loads of sugary stuff, have a sweet tooth. I don't eat big meals in fact don't much, but do eat lots of sweets. So I am what you say - skinny fat (I think it's called). But people who eat a lot of meals and puddings / cake / ice cream etc, are usually over weight. It's a natural effect of eating too much I suppose. I eat too much sugar and am very unhealthy, but not over weight as I don't eat puddings every day after a meal etc.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/09/2026 13:31

I think having something small like yoghurt and honey or fruit most days, or a small piece of chocolate perhaps, is normal.

We certainly don’t have “pudding” as such every day, in the sense of cake or anything similar, that might be on a weekend.

But I find that a small sweet thing is good for digestion - might be in my head or a childhood sense of “sweet things come after main food”. For example, I can’t stand the thought of anything sweet when I’m actually hungry, only when I already feel fairly full.

same here. Always have dessert. Shocked 😮 to read most don’t!

I don’t, but not for any reason other than that after I’ve eaten my dinner I’m not hungry for anything else.
I do often have something sweet mid afternoon though.

I do, every day. Bar of choc, slice of cake, ice cream. Whatever I fancy. I am normal weight. I wouldn't go over a bar though, one bar is enough for me.

Skinny sugar addicts - so true.
My mum lives on crisps, biscuits and chocolate. The only food she eats is peanut butter on toast and the odd cupasoup, and she is currently a size 8 and the biggest she ever was was a 12.

And when I say lives on, I dont mean nibbles one biscuit and then sucks on a crisp all day. I mean a whole pack of biscuits, a multi pack of crisps and a giant bar of chocolate in one sitting!

AND shes got an underactive thyroid for which shes on meds.

Meanwhile I am on a permanent diet, getting fatter all the time and put on half a stone if I even look at a fucking biscuit.

I swear I'm her fat portrait in the attic. She eats a giant bar of dairy milk and I put 3 pounds on.

Yeah I try not to look at the calories on crisp packets. It’s scary.

I don’t have something straight after dinner (we eat around 6-6.30) but I always fancy a little something sweet with my (decaf) coffee around 8.30-9pm.

DH has a very sweet tooth and has been known to have a spoonful of jam straight from the jar if there’s not much choice in the biscuit tin.

A packet of crisps is hardly any calories!

It's a factual statement / observation, in answer to the question. Nothing shaming about it, unless you choose take it that way.

noramoo · 11/09/2026 10:42

Probably 50/50 for us. My DD is only 2.5 so pudding for her is usually a yoghurt or fruit. DH and I might have some chocolate or a couple of biscuits later in the evening. We are all partial to a sweet breakfast e.g. pancakes or afternoon tea and cake at the weekend though! 😀

peoniea · 11/09/2026 10:33

I rarely do unless I’ve gone for a meal out, and even then it’s occasional

Swiftie1878 · 11/09/2026 10:23

Only when eating out, and even then, not always.

cerilere · 11/09/2026 10:19

Yes, something small like a yoghurt or lolly.

RedPony1 · 11/09/2026 10:12

Only when we eat out, never at home unless its a very rare Sunday roast

Papyrophile · 11/09/2026 09:29

Almost never eat puddings, except a tiny afogato after lunch at my favourite restaurant. I don't have a sweet tooth, particularly after dinner.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/09/2026 09:26

Not daily, and we hardly ever have puddings as such, but I do quite often have a 2 finger KitKat.

AgentJohnson · 11/09/2026 09:26

When eating out yes but rarely to never at home. I never have the room and would prefer to fill up on the main.

Well, I am currently dealing with an eating disorder, have been drastically restricting my daily calorie intake for some time and underweight according to the BMI calculator, but even I manage to factor a small sweet snack after my, admittedly usually quite pathetic, evening meal into my ridiculous daily calorie allowance. At the moment it's a bag of Aldi sweet and salty popcorn, 60 calories per small pack, which I find satisfies my sweet tooth.
I just thought I would mention this as there seem to be a trend in some of these comments towards suggesting that eating any kind of dessert after dinner is some sort of moral failing, akin to gluttony, and will automatically lead to obesity. I don't think that those who eschew sweet foods are any more virtuous than those that don't. I am also sure that most of the people eating chocolate or cake after dinner are healthier and have a healthier relationship with food than I have with my irresponsible diet! Surely everything in moderation is thebest mantra to live by when it comes to food.

Literally this. I have smaller meals to accommodate this, having a sweet tooth doesn't equate to being a greedy bastard 😀.

I don’t, ever. But I haven’t got a sweet tooth. Depends on what you like I suppose. 🤷‍♀️

Clementine183 · 11/09/2026 09:06

We rarely have official desserts or puddings, but I always snack in the evenings in some form, usually chocolate... I can't imagine not doing so! I was always very slim, have filled out somewhat and have to watch it a bit more now I'm in my 40s but still not overweight. I have a sweet tooth and see it as a pretty harmless pleasure in life, not exactly out of control.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/09/2026 08:59

I rarely eat pudding but that’s because I don’t have a sweet tooth - cheese board though!

Im generally full after dinner but might have cheese or something a bit later.

Thecatspantaloons · 11/09/2026 08:56

When I was a smoker, a coffee and a cigarette was my pudding , but now I need a biscuit or something 😩 neither is great.

I’m actually laughing out loud reading it, and I’m a grumpasaurus in the morning so it must be funny.

I always make a pudding on a Sunday, pavlova/STP/tiramisu and because there’s only two of us that’ll last us until Tuesday. On Wednesday I usually make some kind of fruity cake (toffee apple this week).

I eat as intuitively as possible and if I don’t want it I don’t eat it, but if I have room and I do it’s there. No big deal.

I am concluding that in every town there is one, just the one, really large person (think Mr Creosote) who snaffles the aisles of cakes, frozen puds, chilled desserts and bakery items before swooping around Greggs/Millies cookies/gails bakery (delete as per the socioeconomic status of your town) and hoovering up all the cake. Meanwhile all the keen bakers must bake and dump.

MarjorieWestriding · 11/09/2026 08:48

We never have sweet stuff after dinner. I don't like cake and puddings and find most foods with sugar in way too sweet which makes me feel poisoned, so I avoid it all. I've never understood the popularity of cake and puddings, to be honest.
