To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

I wouldn’t generally have chocolate or a biscuit, but l would generally have dessert. It’s just a normal part of a dinner menu. It would seem odd to just have a main meal and then just stop.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 10/09/2026 18:29

Nope.

When I fancy a piece of chocolate it's during the day with a coffee.

Biscuits are synonymous with visiting my mum - she always has a well stocked cookie jar! If I kept them in my own home I wouldn't be able to control myself.

downtoearththensinksthesun · 10/09/2026 18:27

I do, every day. Bar of choc, slice of cake, ice cream. Whatever I fancy. I am normal weight. I wouldn't go over a bar though, one bar is enough for me.

AnOldCynic · 10/09/2026 18:27

@QuickPearlFox YABU. It’s a bad habit your parents got you into. I was the same growing up but I rarely have anything sweet after a meal because it’s incredibly bad thing to do.

WhiteJeans7 · 10/09/2026 18:27

Ocado do really small ice cream cones - teeny but delicious! I have 1 of them after dinner most nights 😊I've lost over 2.5 stones since the start of the year so don't think it's doing me much harm.

Other nights I might have another snack, like a handful of crisps, a few cashew nuts or some edamame beans with a sprinkle of salt.

Iloveeverycat · 10/09/2026 18:27

I'm always too full up

JudithsDead · 10/09/2026 18:20

Personally no but I don’t have a sweet tooth. Although I can’t resist home baking or chocolate biscuits, but they aren’t often around.
If I could have crisps, wine, cheese and bics every night I would!
I have a friend, healthy weight, who has a sweet treat after lunch and dinner every day. She fairly recently discovered that most people don’t and is genuinely shocked.

My kids have a fun size bag of Maltesers every night which I had to introduce to control the after dinner sugar intake. Saturdays they go mental on the dairy milk.

CatherinedeBourgh · 10/09/2026 18:18

I never do. Dh always has a couple of squares of chocolate and the dc (adults) also do if dh has got special ones.

SquigglePigs · 10/09/2026 18:17

As adults almost never. My PIL do though.

DD got in the habit of something after every meal courtesy of nursery. Both DH and I get migraines that can be triggered by spikes/drops in blood sugar so I decided I'd rather DD had something sweet after a meal than randomly in the middle of the afternoon.

It's usually small. A couple of squares of chocolate, a small biscuit, piece of homemade cake or brownie etc. If we have guests or it's a treat meal then something more substantial.

Qualitypinnacle · 10/09/2026 18:14

Yes always a biscuit or a couple of squares of chocolate

butternut123 · 10/09/2026 18:13

Only at the weekend we have a real pudding type dessert. During the week if we snack at all it’s fruit and yoghurts

DilkushaKitchen · 10/09/2026 18:13

When our kids were small we would have a yoghurt or bananas and custard after tea every day, but now we're all grown ups pudding is rarer.

We have a crumble or a sticky toffee pudding after our Sunday roast and occasionally a mini Magnum or a bit of ice cream after dinner in the week. Sometimes I get a pudding in on a Saturday if we need a treat, but generally we don't have anything.

I do quite often have a square of Lindt or a few Montezuma chocolate buttons when I get in from work though!

We are always snacking. So we have dinner around 5.30 and then snack on and off all evening. Dh and I shouldn’t really, both overweight but it’s a hard habit to break.

Would you consider eating your dinner later? 5:30 does feel massively early to me. I feel like I’m still full from lunch and it’s 6pm, we don’t eat our evening meal until 8:30 most evenings and no snacking after!
ds will usually rummage in the cupboard for some pudding but unless something has been baked the rest of us don’t eat again after dinner.

gingercat02 · 10/09/2026 18:12

Very rarely. I might make a pudding or dessert at the weekend now and again, but we rarely have cakes, biscuits or chocolate at home.
There is currently the end of DH's birthday cake from Sunday, a banana bread, and DH's birthday chocolates (unopened). I have had 2 small pieces of birthday cake and one piece of banana bread in the last week. That's very unusual.

Rumors1 · 10/09/2026 18:12

No we don’t. Generally the kids dont have anything sweet Mon to Thursday but do at weekend. I like a couple of biscuits with my coffee but it’s usually during the day. Sometimes I have a small piece of dark chocolate when I sit down but it’s a very small bit. We generally dont don’t do deserts. All well within normal weights.

MummyOre · 10/09/2026 18:11

No

I don't see cakes or sweet things as a treat.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 10/09/2026 18:11

We have greek yoghurt and blueberries most nights. Ice cream at the weekend

Shinyandnew1 · 10/09/2026 18:11

We never do! I think I’d be quite fat if I did 😂

CordwainerBird · 10/09/2026 18:10

I have biscuits or a bit of chocolate with a cuppa after DC are in bed.

TigerRag · 10/09/2026 18:10

Only at the weekend. I may have yoghurt if I'm hungry

Verite1 · 10/09/2026 18:09

I always did as a child, but now I never do. occasionally a couple of squares of chocolate before bed but never anything else (unless I'm out for dinner).

Sparrowsandbudgies · 10/09/2026 18:08

Shoobadadoo · 10/09/2026 18:08

Later in the evening I might have some ice cream or choc but usually an hour after dinner

CMOTDibbler · 10/09/2026 18:08

No, never done this routinely. My mum didn't do pudding/ sweet things routinely either we might get one at the weekend, but sweet things were more likely to appear earlier in the day

Tropicalsunshine · 10/09/2026 18:07

No, not in our house.
But this was a habit I had to work to break. I think it was normal growing up when people generally ate less outside meal times. I'm over 50 now and have had to really cut what I eat.
We will do something for pudding for a special meal but not on the regular.
