To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

No. I start piling weight on if I do.

@QuickPearlFox YABU. It’s a bad habit your parents got you into. I was the same growing up but I rarely have anything sweet after a meal because it’s incredibly bad thing to do.

Why?

walrushurricane · 10/09/2026 19:01

I sometimes do but mostly prefer something sweet in the afternoon. Perhaps people who never have dessert have sweet food at other times.

outerspacepotato · 10/09/2026 18:59

No. Cut up fruit or a banana or apple in the daytime as a snack. I've kind of lost my sweet tooth.

Octomingo · 10/09/2026 18:57

I grew up with pudding. Penguin/kitkat after lunch. Biscuits or cake or semolina etc after tea.

We don't have tea until about 7or 8, but still have a few biscuits or something sweet after it. Don't really snack though.

inthekitchensink · 10/09/2026 18:56

Nope, never here, but we eat at 7ish

Stompythedinosaur · 10/09/2026 18:53

Only after Sunday dinner here!

bababamama · 10/09/2026 18:53

No, not even when the kids were small. Treats were occasional

ODFOx · 10/09/2026 18:52

I’m late 50s. I only had pudding at school or on Sunday growing up. My children were the same. Snacks were available but none of us have a sweet tooth, so crisps or sev were preferred. Don’t get me started on tzatziki or houmous and veggies. And the eggs: all the friends for eggs on toast. The teenage years were a blur of buying eggs and never being able to eat one myself!

SpottyAlpaca · 10/09/2026 18:51

Not every day, no. If I did, I would be the size of a small hippo. So puddings, desserts, whatever you want to call them are a weekend treat. As is alcohol. And chocolate. And cakes. Because having been clinically obese for many years & now being a healthy weight, I’m staying there.

Candleabra · 10/09/2026 18:48

I absolutely do. I look forward to it all day!

pastadish · 10/09/2026 18:46

I have something sweet everyday. I need to take myself in hand and stop eating it

MaybeItWasMe · 10/09/2026 18:45

Only after Sunday lunch here. Except for fruit.

Enko · 10/09/2026 18:44

Dh "needs" a dessert daily. It was the norm for him growing up and he doesnt feel satisfied without it. For me desserts were not an everyday occurance so I dont need it every day. I do sometimes have fruit or yoghurt later (or icecream) but not daily.

Our kids are like me. They like a dessert but don't need it. Likely because I didn't serve it as a daily thing in their childhood.

Hayley1256 · 10/09/2026 18:44

I rarely have puddings or sweets stuff after dinner

YourAmberExpert · 10/09/2026 18:43

Nope

TaptheCap · 10/09/2026 18:42

A few (2-3) times a week here at most.

I don't know anyone who does it daily.

The kids get pudding every day at school though.

AvogadrosNumber · 10/09/2026 18:39

Not here either, it's not a habit we've ever had. I do eat sweet things, I just don't have them as part of a daily two course evening meal. A proper pudding, cake or something with ice-cream is on average a couple of times a month thing. Biscuits or chocolate is more like a couple of times a week.

ginasevern · 10/09/2026 18:37

My mum always made a homemade pudding when I was young. Things like apple pie or gooseberry crumble, all with fruit from our own garden. She also made Sussex Pond pudding and bread and butter pudding to use up stale bread. But we didn't have chocolate or biscuits very often at all. This was the 1960's and we were all slim and healthy.

DryIce · 10/09/2026 18:34

No. I'll make pudding as a special treat occasionally, but something sweet after dinner definitely isn't routine.

I guess it is a British thing, I actually have developed an unreasonable dislike of it as a concept! Couldn't understand when the children started school why they were heaving some kind of pudding every day after lunch. Then they want it at home!

I imagine it started when people ate less and were generally less nourished, so adding a pudding to a workers meal or school dinner added some extra calories

MissChanandlerBonng · 10/09/2026 18:33

Not here

BronzedSun · 10/09/2026 18:33

I have a sweet tooth and do have a bar of chocolate everyday but have never been into having to have something sweet after dinner every day. So I’ve been against DC doing similar.

Oddly, my husband, who doesn’t have a huge sweet tooth, grew up having pudding after every meal and still expects it everyday, so moving in with me was an adjustment for him!

ElefantAndCastle · 10/09/2026 18:32

We don't.

Musicaltheatremum · 10/09/2026 18:32

No usually nothing

Sausagedognamedmash · 10/09/2026 18:32

It depends what I've eaten for dinner. If something really salty or savoury I will crave a little something sweet after. We keep funsize chocolate bars and haribos in the house for the kids so will usually have one of those.
