I have sensory issues and cannot cope with strong artificial scents (I even have to deliberately go out of my way to avoid even walking past a Lush on the high street!), so those disgustingly unpleasant 'air fresheners' (there's a misnomer, if ever I heard one) are a definite no-no in my home. And if anyone dared to bring one in (I've seen some comments about people taking their own with them when they go out and about! 🤦🏼‍♂️) and had the audacity to use it, they'd never set foot in my home again. There's a lot more than 'asthma' to think about when it comes to using things like that, and people need to start realising that there are other people, with other issues, living in this world with them, and start acting accordingly...

To be honest ...most of these air ' fresheners' are made up of nasty chemicals that our lungs don't want or need and I, for one, am fed up with smelling the sickly sweet smell of them everywhere , like the horrible vape smells ..ugh ! Open the bl**dy window if you want real " fresh air" !!

We have Aesop poo drops and a reed diffuser. But if people have bowell problems I'd expect them to travel with their own means of dealing with it.

We also don't use toilet brushes. Heavy duty gloves with cleaning bits on them.

Imagine how embarrassing it would be if you'd lit a match to try to avoid anybody knowing what you'd done... then you set off the smoke alarm, so everybody rushes in - only to discover that it was you who'd done a smelly shit that raised the alarm!!

I can only recall one or maybe two people in this whole thread who have claimed/hinted at that.

Nobody else on here is denying that their poo smells; but the point is that it's an unpleasant but natural smell that lasts a short amount of time (less if you open a window) - whereas air freshener is a load of toxic chemicals that don't actually cover the smell of the poo anyway, stink horrendously, and cause big problems for people with asthma and other breathing issues.

A lot of workplaces do to stop people smoking in the loos.

If you have done something whiffy in your friend's bathroom just open the window and discreetly say nothing and hope the smell dissipates. To be honest I think it is a first world issue and frankly, on the subject of the world, air freshener is actually contributing to poor air quality and environmental pollution.

Agree! I have vague recollection in my high school biology lessons that poo is very much supposed to smell. Not only because of the bacteria/waste products etc but so we know it’s poison/inedible (blame my biology teacher if this is wrong).

I don’t have any of this stuff as it’s toxic to people and even more to pets - cats abd dogs. I have a cat plus so you won’t find any air fresheners or plugs in my home. But there are windows in all my bathrooms.

You are not being unreasonable. Most normal people use an air freshener and have one in the loo. At least 99% of the toilets I have ever been in.
Sorry but opening a window and a spray of the loo is the way forward.

I have a window next to the toilet and a bottle of perfume. If it smells that bad... Open the window or spray the perfume. Don't try and disguise it with cheap spray.

Toilet smells don't really bother me. We all make smells occasionally. Keep a window open.

I'm not clear on that idea either--so the guest puts their HAND in the nasty toilet water/bleach and washes the poop away? Then do they bleach their hands afterward?
