AIBU to think many people of the UK lack confidence in the current government?

AIBU to think that the majority of people in the UK don't have any confidence in the current government, with an unelected Prime Minister at its' helm?

Would people be willing to vote on a petition to have a parliamentary debate on this matter, to encourage this government to have a snap General Election? This would give the people - the tax payers - as say in who is running the country. Democracy in action, if you will.

AIBU - people are happy with Labour and the unelected PM

YANBU - people have a democratic right to vote for who they want to run the country and right now, the majority don't have confidence in the current government.

On Labours watch. A leaflet asking asylum seekers and immigrants not to rape UK women and girls. Why would anyone want Labour in power?

Loads of info on that thread and the one before it.

Ha ha yes, always

I didn't realise the Tories were in power at the minute. Have you been accused of being Kemi yet?

So you think parachuting Burnham into a new constituency with which he had no links, to take part in a by-election that had been triggered specifically to provide a vacancy in parliament for him, as he was not an MP, is democratic? I guess that's Labour for you!! Beyond belief. Or is it. The question is if he and Labour are that sneaky and non democratic in public, what are they like when we can't see?

Edited

It clearly is democratic, because under UK democratic processes it is a legitimate thing to do. You don't have to like it - I don't much like it either. But Starmer had to go.

ETA intra party backstabbing and shenanigans have always been part of British politics. Why does it only bother you when the party you don't like does it? I'd call that hypocrisy.

Other than that I have to commend the ingenuity of the purveyors of these faux-naif posts about how awful Labour is. It's telling that there are so many more of them now that Labour have overtaken Reform in the polls, but the variety of angles seems neverending.

Lots of whataboutery on your thread. That's something else the left are hypocrites at. Telling you you're deflecting and derailing threads when they do exactly the same!

I wondered how long the "at least they know what a woman is" line came out.

Quick mention small boats too.

You've just mentioned it for her.

Yeah I know. That was even clearer when people on here kept telling us men were women.

No matter what government is in power, people are always unhappy so I think your question is ridiculous. We also dont elect the PM in the UK. So crawl back from wherever you came from.

For once I have confidence. Free school meals has meant I can manage and the same is true for many people I know.

I doubt you will get much support, OP.

Tories are equally "non-democratic" as you put it with their many unelected PMs. But you don't care about that

This.

Labour are the least worst option to me, but nothing great, but then I don't think any would be good and Reform would be dreadful. Already fucking up my local authority spectacularly.

The media don't help with their 'fast fashion' attitude to PMs either.

The media don't help with their 'fast fashion' attitude to PMs either.

They certainly don’t. Long-term sustainable changes take years of consistent work, money and difficult decisions.

Replacing the PM every few months because Twitter or the tabloids have managed to whip up a hate-filled backlash against him or her will only ensure that the difficult tasks never get finished.

I swear that some people would like to see the country run along the lines of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, voting off a Prime Minister every week because he swore at the person who showered him with scorpions or failed to pick enough gold stars out of a bath of electric eels.

CoventryCity · 09/09/2026 18:19

soddingspiderseason · 09/09/2026 17:08

And? He left being Mayor of Greater Manchester to become an MP. He was democratically elected. I just don’t get what you are trying to suggest? People like him. I’ve met him. He’s a good man. And his government are doing good things, hence the move in the opinion polls towards Labour, who are now leading said polls.

So you think parachuting Burnham into a new constituency with which he had no links, to take part in a by-election that had been triggered specifically to provide a vacancy in parliament for him, as he was not an MP, is democratic? Not read the thread, but I'm sure you will have already been reminded that you vote for a party not a particular leader in the GE. Please also cast your mind back to the revolving door of PMs we had under the Conservative government.

ah I see. So you throw around the 46% without actually knowing where it comes from. 100% of people I know will never vote for Labour again. 100% Unbelievable that isn't it? But that's my sample. Besides we all know stats are not reliable. Nor accurate. A lot of the time.

There's no need to get yourself all over excited and start ranting at me. I didn't commission the poll or conduct the poll. All I did was politely answer your question from the latest data at hand.
I've told you the 46% came from a YouGov poll. If you want to believe YouGov polls are a big fat fib because it upsets you to think Burnham is popular, knock yourself out. No need to pout and stamp your feet at me.

savemysleep · 09/09/2026 18:11

I have lacked confidence in the government for the last decade at least

MNLurker1345 · 09/09/2026 18:08

I have not an ounce of confidence in the current government but I do not want a snap election because we would most probably end up with Reform in opposition.

CoventryCity · 09/09/2026 18:05

Dilemma999 · 09/09/2026 17:29

I think you’ve illustrated how uninformed you are. You say Restore and Reform would do a better job of running the country. Have a quick look at how well the Reform led Councils are doing. Sounds like you’re only interested in the usual single issue of ‘stop the boats’ (by the way, small boat crossings are down 42% on this time last year).

To whom are you talking @Dilemma999 ?

OP posts:
DoAWheelie · 09/09/2026 18:02

I have more confidence in this government than I've had in any other in the last 15 years.

Politics takes time, swapping and changing every couple of years means we never actually get to follow through on anything and see what the end results may have been. It's time to stop with all this farting around and go back to full 4-5 year terms.

YouGov August poll. I assume the same sort of sampling they use when they conduct any poll. I'm not a pollster but I believe you can find answers to your questions by Googling how polls are conducted.

He stood in a by-election which was fiercely contested by Reform. He won that election. He was then chosen by Labour MPs to be their leader and hence Prime Minister. What’s your point?

Where was he before the by-election? What was he doing? How come he stood in a by-election in that location?
