AIBU to want to express support for women who were assaulted at a political conference?

To want to send out support to the two women visibly assaulted at a political conference.
I am concerned about the other protesters too and actually anyone who was hurt. But having to listen to jeering from the podium plus the crowd chanting in live TV at the same time must have been so traumatic and the publicity will die down and coverage move on but that can't be easy. Just want to send love and support.

I have two thoughts at the same time.

This woman pretended to be a Reform member to disrupt their conference and she should not have been there in the first place, and could expect to be physically ejected. No one there wanted to listen to her, she was being self-righteous and self-indulgent.

This woman should not have been struck and received forceful blows, and the way the that she was assaulted was disproportionate. These men and Reform should hold themselves to a higher standard than this, and those who landed blows should face criminal action.

All parties have hecklers of various stripes. Some with a point, some just there to be annoying. And they are a bit of a challenge to deal with- either they are dragged out by security or the politician speaking has to try to seem like they are listening/engaging. There have been cases in the past where politicians have been accused of looking tone deaf by having protesters removed. I can't think of any other situation where they have been violently assaulted while the politician smirks.

Even outside of political conferences you have disruption and protesters of all types causing issues. Eg there was Posie Parkers disruption of some Muslims praying by standing in front of them and repeatedly moving to stand in front of them when they moved. You could see the Muslim men were annoyed. They did not however assault her. Likewise there have been trans activists infiltrating GC events. They were removed. They were surrounded by an angry mob of people grabbing at their throats. If either of those groups had reacted in a violent fashion you would not hear the end of it.

The point is that, regardless of the orientation of the protestor/heckler, it's not normal for the reaction of the crowd to be violent. The fact this happend and that it was supported by Farage at the time and later played of as "serves her right" is really disturbing and divisive.

FriendlyMedusa · 09/09/2026 13:19

I'm with you OP. I hate Reform but I don't think you should have to to agree that mob violence is not an acceptable response to non-violent protest.

Dunno, maybe but I don't pay a great deal of attention to what you say tbh.

I just wanted to highlight the narrative/consensus of the thread is being warped by very active posters pushing a particular view/agenda. Didn't even name names but thanks for outing yourself 😅

Outing myself for what? How can posters warp an AIBU thread. If the case is that we are all meant to think the same, why is there a voting poll?

...which is an assault, as is throwing milkshakes over a person. What's your point?

A hard egg is going to hurt quite a bit more than a milkshake. What did the woman do to justify being hit by the man?

Equally, yet again your deflection from the real issue that is being discussed is as The Telegraph reported, "this is not a decent party for decent people".

We've been here before haven't we? I told you the last time that it's got nothing to do with you when I post and how often. If you are doing calculations on that, that says something very strange indeed.

I would like to see those that commited the assault brought up before the law.

I would also like those that incited the indient to be brought up before the law as well.

What have they done to break the law? What law has the Heckler broken?

John Prescott was slammed in the face with an egg, not the same at all!

I was thinking much the same thing myself. Women step out of line or are the wrong type of women and they are instantly fair game.

Yep. Lots of women on mn have a voice and won't shut up and agree with the reform men. We are not the right kind of women, so fair game for the violence of reform men.

Goldenbear · 09/09/2026 13:11

LuckyHazelFox · 09/09/2026 12:47

That's the whole point of them being there isn't it? That and wanting attention. John Prescott's agitator once found out the hard way.

Ironically, the grooming gang men would also say that they care deeply for the wellbeing of the “right type of woman.” But for women they don’t approve of, they believe that righteous people like themselves can do whatever they want to them.

The parallels with what happened at the Refrom conference are pretty clear. Reform has no issue with beating up the “wrong type of woman.” And that was in public! Imagine what happens in private.

Why should I stop posting, because you say so. Sorry, it doesn't work like that. Thanks for showing me who you are though.

Ah that is news to me. So she is actually a disgruntled but genuine reform supporter? Or do you mean that she is a repeat protester that the Reform admin forgot to expel?

Not a Reform supporter but a paid up Reform member.

And yes she has done this before, Reform had her badge and membership number but didn't expel her.

She gave a interview with LBC, it's on youtube.

Goldenbear · 09/09/2026 13:05

LuckyHazelFox · 09/09/2026 12:21

Where have I said men should hit women?

This is just a response that deflects from the very serious matter that is being discussed, how that relates to Reform principles and as a party as the Telegraph has pointed out that this party is "not a decent party for decent people". No ifs not buts, this violence against a woman from a man and then Jenerick belittling her with his "Boo Hoo" comment in his Sky News interview, clearly indicates a terrible set of values, a worrying set of values!

T-shirts, bad. Beating women, good.

Both awful. From a voter perspective though, it supports my personal conclusions. Zach Polanski is a juvenile graduate of sixth form politics. I agree with most of what Farage and Tice say, but their wider movement just seems to whiff of thuggery that they can't shake.

Well here’s the thing . Don’t disrupt and enrage people and the chances are you won’t get your hair pulled .

It’s not “the thing” though is it ? Are you a bit of a thicko?

Yikes 😬 I work in the DV sphere, do you know how many violent men use exactly these words to excuse themselves for beating the shit out of their partners and kids?

"You just make me so crazy, why'd you have to do that, you just pushed me too far, I wouldn't hurt you if you didn't make me, it's your fault" ... you sound just like them.

And Reform supporters could also have made that argument. However, they’ve opted for variations of “what did she expect/she was asking for it”.

Ironically, the grooming gang men would also say that they care deeply for the wellbeing of the “right type of woman.” But for women they don’t approve of, they believe that righteous people like themselves can do whatever they want to them.

Not one person has said beating women is good.

If you watch her bragging about her tactics, you will see what she actually says.

Isn't it funny how the same people (rightly) complaining about Zach Polanski reposting that slideshow with a t-shirt of Nigel Farage and a guillotine (if I remember the exact detail correctly) think it's fine to beat a woman?

She didn't pretend to be a Reform member, she paid for the membership and had been a member for a few years.

She was at the previous conference to protest and her membership was not taken away. She was also invited by her local Reform leader to discuss getting involved more.

Protesters at party conferences is nothing new.

Being assaulted like that is.

West Midlands Police is now investigating 5 cases of assualt at the Reform conference.

Ah that is news to me. So she is actually a disgruntled but genuine reform supporter? Or do you mean that she is a repeat protester that the Reform admin forgot to expel?
