AIBU to want to express support for women who were assaulted at a political conference?

To want to send out support to the two women visibly assaulted at a political conference. I am concerned about the other protesters too and actually anyone who was hurt. But having to listen to jeering from the podium plus the crowd chanting in live TV at the same time must have been so traumatic and the publicity will die down and coverage move on but that can't be easy. Just want to send love and support.

Well. I did. I felt I needed to voice my views. But yes. People in Newark and Clacton are best placed.

It’s gaslighting and DARVO on another level. And reminds me of women in the past being labelled insane and put into secure psychiatric hospitals if they reacted to the abuse they were experiencing.

I’m not sure we should assume that the alleged [sic] victims have anything to hide. Maybe they took a glimpse at what the RNLI got a bit of just for doing their job and, having already been on the end of one Reform beating, didn’t fancy any more punishment. But yes, let’s hope the law takes its course and no one feels too intimidated to let that happen.

And the police have enough for an arrest without the victim. The footage and witnesses would be enough.

This shouldn't happen but, realistically, a woman protesting at an event attended by hourdes of woman-beaters risks being beaten.

Not victim blaming - the protesters are brave doing what they did.

Anyway, hopefully the treasonous scumbags who've been operating the Reform "UK" scam/party will be sharing a cell with their old mate, Nathan Gill, before too long.

Maybe they'll get beaten in prison 🤗

Its admirable though that you’ve spent so much time highlighting variously a 25-year old case, an MP who was suspended and a young man who may possibly have been grabbed at some point by a party member (although he complained about his treatment by security and the police) to try and minimise a woman being beaten by Reform members, action which failed to be condemned by the leadership (quite the reverse indeed).

Bit off topic but times like this I glad I don’t live in the US.

If a protester/ citizen/politician gets angry or feels threatened the worst thing that’s going to happen is usually going to be fisticuffs which yeah can be fatal - but not as bad as everyone having access to guns which can kill a large number of people very quickly

In the interests of accuracy, Prescott’s punch wasn’t the big disgrace for Labour in my view. That came in 2012 when Eric Joyce head butted a conservative MP in the Strangers Bar because thee were “too many Tories in here”. A very poor day for Labour and a good reason to limit the boozing in the H of C.

As I said it’s a terrible situation regardless - but even more so if it actually was due to uncontrollable anger at something he said rather than fear.

I am glad he was convicted! And so should all of the men guilty of violence at the reform conference.

ETA: I’ve just read Amesy was drunk 😣 to be clear drunkenness doesn’t make it better. Makes it worse if anything.
