To ask if my boyfriend doing this last night is ‘normal’?

I was having a bath last night and he came in and used the loo (no.2). I shouted and asked what he was playing at and he said he has always done this with partners and vice versa as have plenty of people he knows. He stayed for a couple of minutes until he had finished and left laughing.

For context - together 4 months, he was staying at mine last night.

He has said he won’t do it again but I feel a bit humiliated by it tbh.

I hated it when my ex did this once. So before I got in the bath I used to ask everyone to use the toilet before I got in. I rarely had a bath in peace when DD was little. She always wanted to get in with me.

I have three toilets. I was in the main bathroom, there is also an en-suite and downstairs loo.

Reading the replies has made me realise it was likely deliberate/making a point.

My husband and I have been together for 19 years. He would never poo in front of me, unless it was an emergency and even then, he would make me out my fingers in my ears etc

Radioheads · 09/09/2026 22:33

When you dump him tell him that his actions have repulsed you so much, that you no longer find him in any way attractive and you couldn't be in a relationship with someone so rough and dragged up.
Let it sting.

Abusers like to constantly demean their victims.
This was meant to humiliate you.
To put you in your place.

It is a massive red flag.
It wouldn't be the last time he would humiliate you.

He laughed at you, vulnerable in the bath while he humiliated you.

He's scum.

Heylittlesongbird · 09/09/2026 22:16

Please update that you’ve dumped him 🤢

Lemonyyy · 09/09/2026 22:07

Urgh no. Husband and I have been together 17 years, pretty relaxed about a lot of things but have never pooed in front of each other, just feels like a line that we wouldn't/shouldn't cross! At four months in I'd be done!

Editing to add we only have one bathroom and have still managed this - if there were two more toilets that's even more absurd and obviously off.

Radioheads · 09/09/2026 22:05

He is a foul, disgusting, low class pig.
He doesn't have an ounce of respect for himself or you.

You are out of your mind if you allow such filth near you again.

Of course it was deliberate.
To show you just how little respect you deserve.

Only on MN do things like this happened.
I can tell you a lot of women would have told him to leave.
I certainly couldn't look at such a pig again.

PassThePeaceAndQuiet · 09/09/2026 22:04

Only one of us has pooped in front of the other- and that was the one giving birth.

Your shitty DP might be right he did it in front of exes but that's quite a lot of them and quite telling.

Be the next one.

Jesus christ, I assumed it was the only toilet and I still thought he was bang out of order! The fact that there were two other toilets available to him and he made a conscious choice to interrupt your lovely, relaxing bath by forcing you to watch him do a shit is seriously fucking weird.

Get rid, OP. You're only 4 months in, he will definitely get weirder.

Yeah. A twat. Get rid.

PorridgeEater · 09/09/2026 22:03

"I have three toilets. I was in the main bathroom, there is also an en-suite and downstairs loo."

So he was expecting you to accept boorish behaviour from him - setting it up saying he'd bring you a glass of wine, then laughing as he left. This does not bode well OP. Do you really want to live with someone like this?

shhblackbag · 09/09/2026 22:02

Nope. He ruined your relaxing bath. He would be gone. Four months? He is much, much too comfortable. Or just a twat.

RogueRascal · 09/09/2026 22:02

end it now, complete lack of boundaries and likely to get worse

DurhamDime · 09/09/2026 21:56

Ugh disgusting.

Married 20 years and we spent many of those years in a 1 bathroom house.

We’ve wee’d while the other is in the bath plenty of times (sit down wee for DH in that situation) but never ever pooed in front of each other. Neither of us wants to be either part of that arrangement. The only acceptable reason that will become a reality would be if it were medical issue/emergency.

walrushurricane · 09/09/2026 21:53

Definitely not normal if you have more than one toilet. If only one toilet maybe it could happen if someone had a bowel issue but i am sure that a normal person would be very apologetic.

flippertygibbet4 · 09/09/2026 21:52

Gross and disgusting. I could not be with someone who behaved like this.

If there are other toilets in the house, why on earth would anybody choose to have a shit in the only bathroom that was occupied? It has to some kind of statement or test. Whatever it is, it's gross and disrespectful.

DooDallyHallie · 09/09/2026 21:42

Poo troll?
Only 2 prev posts, both within 5 minutes of starting this one

dad11122 · 08/09/2026 16:13

A former girlfriend used to do this (urinating only) when I was in the bath, I was surprised at first but she felt that it was totally normal and certainly wasn't doing it out of disrespect towards me. I suppose it's just something that you need to make a decision on within your relationship 🤷‍♂️.

Weeing is fine. Pooing is completely different!

echt · 09/09/2026 21:39

At four months into the relationship he should be on his best behaviour, never mind this! In all of our 25+ years together, my late DH and I never used the toilet in front of each other.

Your update confirms it: your boyfriend is making a point, @Helenaslide. He's testing you. Get rid, it will only get worse.

runnersfeet · 09/09/2026 21:39

You have other loos so this was a deliberate thing. When someone shows you who they are, believe them. Get rid. You deserve better.

toiletpaperthief · 09/09/2026 21:38

This is not red flags waving in your face OP, but more like a commie parade marching in front of you. Gross, juvenile, disrespectful etc... come to mind This is what you should expect of this guy, and its only 4 months... "honeymoon phase". yikes!

Yeh if you have other bathrooms this is deliberate. I’ve been married 20 years and even. When had one bathroom we never did this!
He’s showing you what he thinks of you especially laughing. Get rid

HollyhocksandPeons · 09/09/2026 21:36

Not only revolting, but sick in the head, not normal.

Thegirlwhowent · 09/09/2026 21:35

This happened to me once but he said it was accidental (often sat down for a wee) and has never done it since. I've never known anyone else do it and I think it's horrible. Couldn't he wait ten minutes or so?
