To ask if my boyfriend doing this last night is ‘normal’?

I was having a bath last night and he came in and used the loo (no.2). I shouted and asked what he was playing at and he said he has always done this with partners and vice versa as have plenty of people he knows. He stayed for a couple of minutes until he had finished and left laughing.

For context - together 4 months, he was staying at mine last night.

He has said he won’t do it again but I feel a bit humiliated by it tbh.

To be fair my dog did look embarrassed at times. She honestly didn’t like me looking at her.

Mine doesn’t either. Won’t poop on the lead and runs off into the long grass so he can stay hidden.

I've been with my husband 26 years and neither of us would do this. Disgusting and I'd dump him. I do remember reading something about narcissistic toilet behaviour which involved this type of thing , absolutely not normal and a way of exerting some sort of power over you.

I usually do but as I was about to get in he suggested bringing me a glass of wine up so I left it unlocked for that reason.

Now I wonder if this was intentional. Him suggesting the wine then coming in and doing that AND you have other bathrooms available??

Did the wine ever appear while you were in the bath?

Time to have a ponder on if he's tried to push boundaries before that you gave him the benefit of the doubt for but now see differently.

Thesearenotthedroidsyouarelookingfor · 08/09/2026 18:03

He’s a pig and if you have 2 other toilet’s available then he was definitely testing boundaries. I wonder what else he does that he thinks is “funny”.

No

Er, most animals don’t feel ‘shame’ when they shit.

That doesn’t make it ok for another human to do it beside you when you’ve asked them not to.

ScotchBonnet74 · 08/09/2026 18:02

No. Unless he had raging diarrhea (I can never spell it), there is something very wrong here. My husband has never had a poo in front of me and vice versa and we have been married for 18 years. Back in the day when we first lived together and only had one bathroom, we would each say to the other something along the lines of 'I'm going in the bath / shower now. Do you want to use the loo first?'

Fucking nasty. He's lying about having done it with other partner, or maybe that's what ended those relationships.

The only way this could happen is if he was ill or plain bursting and told you first so you had the option to vacate.

Honestly this makes me sick and angry at his blatant lies on top of his foul thoughtlessness.

She has 3 toilets

This makes it sound like he offered the wine just so you would leave the door unlocked and he could do this. He knew what he was doing. It sounds extreme but I wouldn’t want to be with him, he enjoyed subjecting you to that the underlying psychology is effed up

(edited for typos)

Kokonimater · 08/09/2026 18:01

So you have three toilets and he chose to do that in front of you!?
Thats weird. And horrible.

What were his motives I wonder?
That would seriously make me think twice.

that is revolting.

I have three toilets. I was in the main bathroom, there is also an en-suite and downstairs loo.

Reading the replies has made me realise it was likely deliberate/making a point.

He had 2 other toilets he could have used and still went to the one in your bathroom. That’s even worse. Grim.

This has got to be a wind up right. No sane human being would ever do that.

Bogstandardname · 08/09/2026 17:56

No not the norm. Only under dire circumstances and if no other loo in the house. We have been married for 30 years and have never done this.

I actually think they might. I recall my family dog hiding under the kitchen window when going for a poo in the garden, if she looked and saw us watching - she would also sometimes look over at us sheepishly, as if to say "ffs why are they watching me".. obviously, so we knew when to call her back inside, not some weird fetish.

Animals, especially dogs, do seem to feel shame. I recall the look of guilt when another dog destroyed something of mine. Or when they had run off and not come back when I called. The body language said it all. Or when the dog accidentally knocked me over and hung its head low afterwards, as if by way of apology, and then refused to leave my side because I was limping. That was a big deal because that dog loved running off and exploring everything, chasing anything that moved.

BeEagerRubyBird · 08/09/2026 17:50

He would never set foot in my house again.

ilovemykindle · 08/09/2026 17:49

We've been married over 40 years and I have never seen DH have a wee never mind a poo.

There’s an episode of Father Ted, Entertaining Father Stone, where Ted is relaxing in the bath and Father Stone asks to use the toilet right next to the bath. He then sits down and has a poo!

So ridiculous that it’s comedy. Nothing funny about OP’s experience especially with other toilets available.
I’d say bye bye!

One of my favourite episodes but in real life…. NOOO!! Think it would be enough to dump him (pardon the pun).

Contain4 · 08/09/2026 17:48

I know loads of people who do this.

I know more women who do this (but I have more women as friends).

I would never do it and would hate it done to me though.

Just tell him not to do it again.
If he does, then it’s over.

Echlefecker · 08/09/2026 17:46

Wtf. No way ever ever.

Myblueclematis · 08/09/2026 17:46

My ex-husband had a some serious faults but having a poo when I was in the bath would not have been one of them.

He's an uncouth pig!

KitsyWitsy · 08/09/2026 17:45

It has never happened to me. What else would he expect you to put with? Make sure you tell him why you’ve gone off him.
