DH wants to abort, I don’t

ccd90 · 08/09/2026 14:39

8 weeks pregnant due to contraception failing.

We have 2 DC’s, one is 3, one is 1.

Abortion was booked for Thursday then this morning I had a big bleed, hospital scanned me and saw a baby with a strong heartbeat and no reason for the big bleed.

I have come home and told DH I cannot go through with abortion. He’s not happy. He said I’m only thinking of myself, he doesn’t want the baby, he’s saying he going to close our business down as he can’t deal with the stress and he’s going to go get a “normal” job.

It’s impossible to talk to him right now.

I haven’t been 100% sure about the abortion right from the very beginning and then today I walked out of the hospital knowing I had to keep this baby otherwise I was going to break my own heart.

I am in such a shit situation. I don’t know what to do for the best. If I have the abortion, I’ll resent him and we’ll end up splitting anyway. If I carry on with the pregnancy and he’s unsupportive then I think I will end up with pre and post natal depression (I’ve had PND since baby was born a year ago which I am currently getting help for).

I wish he could just hug me and say we’ve got this, we will make it work. I’m just so upset I don’t know what to do.

You replied to a 5 day old comment just to revive a debate about my opinions on contraception. You have replied to me twice since then, and others have too. I don't believe it's my job to shut up if nobody else will.

It’s absolutely not your job to shut up, I totally agree. But neither is it your job to tell others to do the same. The thread is 23 pages long. OP has left it - can’t say I blame her after some of the vile comments throughout, but nevertheless it’s not unusual for threads to carry on the conversation for the full forty pages, long after the OP has abandoned it. If OP doesn’t want that, she can ask for it to be deleted - personally I think the debate has exhausted itself so I’ll leave it there.

I really have no idea what your problem is but I won't be replying to you further. You've not come across well here at all, as pointed out by several other posters.

Good! Then we all win. You have only replied to me twice, to pile on, while having zero issue with others keeping the thread going because they agree with you. Take care.

It’s only a few posts upthread that you told me to ‘have some class’ and let the thread lie, because OP has left it. Maybe try taking your own advice.

It's so clear how many posters are desperate to have the last word.
...Do you not see the irony here?

You've used the thread to have a go at her DH and then gone silent yourself
So now I've said too little? Can you even make your mind up, or am I just a random person to take your frustration out on?

You have said nothing that is remotely supportive to the OP
I was supportive in my initial comment. I also posted said comment before OP had spoken to her husband more and updated/requested that nobody speak badly about her DH. Many people said the same as me at that point in the thread. OP's understandable need for DH's support right now does not negate the fact that he handled this very poorly. Whatever the case, I hope both can heal.

Just. Stop. Your views being aired do not trump the OPs trauma and pain and need for support. Take your argument into DMs if you must continue.

OP. I really hope you are no longer reading this thread. I am sending you strength and love. Be kind to yourself. May be ask for this thread to be deleted. But take a screen shot of your post where you list the things that influenced your decision in case you start doubting yourself. We will still be here if you need us. Try and take away the many posters that have been kind. May be post elsewhere on the site if you need us again. AIBU can be a harsh place but other areas are more gentle I find. Take really good care of yourself.

There is no ‘argument’ to take to DMs. I have been nothing but supportive of OP throughout the thread.

Shame on your DH for putting you through that traumatic and humiliating experience because he was too fucking lazy to submit his vasectomy forms. I'm actually enraged. He's an utter cunt.

I hope you recover soon.

Not helpful.

No, because he vocally agrees that if I got pregnant in that scenario it would ultimately be my decision. A reality any man who has not had a vasectomy should face.

Can you have some class and let this thread lie now that OP has backed out of it?

I don’t know what your problem is with me, but this is a public forum and you don’t get to police those with whom you don’t agree.

Did you insist that your partner in that relationship had a vasectomy before you would have sex with him ?

You should be downright ashamed of yourself. Absolutely horrible, cruel and downright thoughtless right down to this one. Responding to such strong admonishment about it with 'Sorry but but but' is a joke.

Bit much come on.

Hope you are feeling better Op xx

I am allowed to reply, and your comment doesn't do anything for OP either.

I've been in a relationship while on the coil, and I accepted that there was always a small possibility of pregnancy just like OP did. It's her husband who apparently did not.

Did you insist that your partner in that relationship had a vasectomy before you would have sex with him ?

@Mumsnet having read the OPs latest post you should be thoroughly ashamed. She is leaving the thread due to some responses which were cruel and nasty. This, at a time a woman was faced with a hugely difficult decision and needed as much support as possible. I.know posts were reported and you failed to respond. Shameful.
To.those who couldn't resist being nasty i hope you never find yourselves in a desperate situation where you need help.snd support.

Couldnt agree more.

I replied to the report email I got from @MNHQ saying that I disagreed with the decision to not delete certain replies and why.

Didnt even get a fucking acknowledgement, much less a reply. So much for by parents, for parents.

How exactly would him handing in the paperwork earlier have avoided this situation, given that he would still have had to wait for the procedure and they would still have had to use additional protection for some months afterwards ?

Be kind to yourself OP it’s still very recent and raw. Hopefully with the passage of time you’ll feel much better.

I have read all of OP's comments carefully, and I hope that she gets through this to a happier place very soon. She's made a very valid decision, as I've said, with many positives. Hopefully, soon she'll look back and feel that she made the best choice for her family.

But I do think it's wise to be mindful of how a man behaves towards you when things go wrong and you're vulnerable, and whether or not he shoulders responsibility. That's all. Couples' counselling sounds like a very good idea. But as pp have said repeatedly, I don't want to derail this when OP is hurting, so I won't be commenting again. Apologies.

@OtterlyAstounding

what exactly do you think OP’s husband should have done?

Ineffable23 · 12/09/2026 18:31

Thinking of you OP. Sounds like a horrendously tough week. Glad the grandparents have been able to have the kids for a bit. Unmumsnetty hugs.

ChampagneProblemsTS · 12/09/2026 16:05

@ccd90 I'm so very sorry for everything you've been through. I hope you are being taken care of and you both consider counselling in time. I'm sorry if the replies on this thread have not helped, unfortunately some people feel the need to use others as a way of pushing their own agenda even if its of no help to a poster clearly in need.

Much love to all of you and I hope the future is brighter xx
