To think challenge 25 has gone too far?

I kicked off about something similar once, I gave my DSIS a lift home and popped to a supermarket on the way back, bought a top up shop and included 4 cans of lager in it, they wanted to id both of us, I could be buying it for my younger DSIS apparently. The packet of mince and teabags and god knows what else were obviously a cover lol 🙄 they did let me off, but when I queried what if I’d got my 8 year old daughter with me, would they try and id her? Well then I obviously wouldn’t be buying it for her. It’s mental.

I never have mine, only ever carry my phone, don’t get ID’d all the time now, but does still happen usually if shopping somewhere I’m not a regular. And it’s sooo annoying, because I look a touch young, always have, I don’t look 17. I have an old licence in the car which I never bothered to send back when I updated my address, and I have had to go and do the walk of shame without my savvy b 😂 I’m 37, I look a touch young, I’m short with other PP’s seem to back up apparently knocks years off 😂

Why does it matter? Show ID, get alcohol. Not an issue. Then I’m 53 and no one is IDing me except the automated cashier things they now have in supermarkets…

What annoys me most is their lack of common sense. I’m IDed most when I’m wearing joggers and no makeup, as if teenagers are trying to get served underage for a single bottle of wine whilst buying a full £200 family shop. I don’t look anywhere near 25 either.

Same! 25 years ago my friends and I could buy cigarettes and alcohol in many a local shop! As if someone is saying that Challenge 25 is karma for 14 year olds trying to buy booze. 😂😅 It is even more so to fault of the retailers for selling to a bunch of cock-sure teens!

Shop down the street from my secondary school would serve almost anyone! Youngest lad I knew of was 14, but tall 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I got ID'd a few weeks ago - I'm fucking 40!! I was so taken back I said, "I'm forty - I'm married...I...drive...I have a kid...I'm FORTY!!" And laughed and laughed. 😅

It is ridiculous. I'm mid 40s and got ID'd the other day and I had a wedding ring on and was with my 16 year old son.

So by that you mean countries that don't have equality legislation? Does someone who uses a wheelchair in those countries have to produce appropriate ID to show their disability is 'valid'?

But, by law you're only allowed to ask for ID if you have a reasonable belief! So maybe if someone is 26 or 27? Not 40!!!!

Would you be OK with discriminating against people because of any other protected characteristic? Race for example? It's really not OK that we (you) prioritize one protected characteristic over another. Even it others tell you it's OK.

Exactly. Frankly, I’m in my 50s and if somebody asks for my ID and I don’t have it then I’m OK with not getting the drink. Not that anybody asks anymore.😬😂😩

Bare in mind that if we don't reach a particular % of "challenges", we get pulled up on it by management so some of the "challenges" we do we might not think are strictly necessary...

They still get served now, none of us were going into Tesco at 15, but dodgy little off licences and the kind of corner shops that sell duty free cigarettes from under the counter and that tradition continues 😁.

I miss being ID'd , barely get a glance these days before they hit approve. My favourite ID purchase was a potato peeler, one of the y shape ones with the peeler across the top, who's doing any damage to anything other than a potato with that?!

I got asked a few months ago and I'm 47!
Turned out the cashier had been caught out by one of the people that goes around checking retailers do actually 'challenge 25', so he was asking pretty much anyone.
I'll still take it though!

😂 yep. I was thrilled when a young staff member asked for my ID in Sainsburys only to be immediately put in my place by the manager who looked at me, laughed and said “nah mate, she’s definitely over 25” and jabbed that bloody button 3 or 4 times just to drive the point home.

Last time I got IDed (over 40 and in no way possible to mistake for under 30, let alone under 18) I advised the guy to look at my teeth 🦷 and consider whether he really thought I was a teenager. He was so scared he let me have to booze.

47, proudly asked the other day. I had to check if he was serious. "I'm nearly 50" I had to say! I think he needed glasses! Still, feels like worse things have happened 😂

One of my daughters is 33 and couldn’t buy a lottery ticket because she couldn’t show her id. She does look young for her age but not that young. Bloody rediculas.

I’d rather that than the lightning speed they hit the ‘clearly over 25’ button at my local shop 😔 They could at least pretend to think about it.

I was id in my early 40s . i was with my son who was 18 and had id on him, but i did not so they wouldnt serve us. I was a bit pissed off and did a one woman boycot of waitrose for a few months. Now aged 47 i havent been asked in a while....sad times..

I got asked for ID this week to buy Calpol for my toddler. So I’d need to be 16 and I was buying it at the petrol station where they just saw me top up. I had to go back to my car to get my driving licence lol

DD was IDed for a video game a couple of years ago in Asda. She was 21 at the time. The age rating on the game was THREE! 🤨

I've been IDed for paracetamol in my mid-40s. The cashier seemed confused by the presence of my 12yo who is taller than me and looked us up and down a few times.

I was once refused service for alcohol at 37 as I hadn't got my driving licence on me due to doing DBS checks earlier that week. At least I've had it on me on the few checks I've had in my 40s. The Red Bull didn't involve older children/ teens as a complication either so was either entirely on my own merits or the eyesight of the cashier

but she was right?! Surely what matters is that they make the right judgement , because it’s always a judgement.
