What has JK Rowling said or done that’s transphobic

1000 replies

Ducketta · 08/09/2026 13:26

Another thread has said that they don’t want their thread to be derailed. Y HK Rowling and morals, so I’ll start one. Can anyone please tell me what JK Rowling has ever said or done that’s transphobic? Please be specific and outline how she has been offensive to trans people and not just been protective women and girls hard fought right to separate single sex spaces.

I cannot find anything whatsoever that she has done wrong. Nothing. Nada. And yet this JK Rowling = queen of transphobia myth persists. And it’s bloody tiresome.

If you treat a trans person according to their birth sex in all settings where sex is relevant, then you are asking a trans person not to be trans in all public settings where being trans might be relevant.

Well done you, shilling for men whilst women will self exclude from their own single sex spaces. So progressive.

exactly this.
Sums up the mentality of it.
Women shilling for men and calling themselves feminists. It’s shameful.

Mooselander · 09/09/2026 12:49

Absolutely nothing. It’s bizarre. The world is literally bizarre.

Who would have thought that it would ever be controversial to say you can’t change sex, that a man is a man and a woman is a woman, and that that fact can’t change 😆

RelaxAndDetox · 09/09/2026 12:49

She's done NOTHING. She just wants the concerns of women and girls considered above men in woman's face. Apparently that's awful and men with feels, that they are 'women' should be catered for above any concerns at all.

She is brave, and most of all she is RIGHT. Finally, the law and sensible people are realising that biological facts matter. Others are a bit slow to the facts. Some screaming threats to women who dare stand up for women and girls.

They can walk around all day every day being trans, no one is going to stop them. The only time they can't self identify as the opposite sex is when they are accessing single sex spaces. Toilets, changing rooms etc, that isn't the majority of someone's life it's a very tiny part of it, it's just something they will have to accept to keep the spaces available. Women need single sex spaces to keep them safe, we can't allow them to be taken away because someone wants to be the opposite sex

it’s all part of the validation fantasy, which relies on women to go along with it and pretend. It’s deceitful at best.

This thread would be a whole lot simpler if most of the folk on it said that they were transphonbic themselves and so is JK Rowling.

Most of you are saying 'I don't like trans people and think trans people don't have the right to self determination not rights to access a bathroom that corresponds with their identified gender and lowers their risk of violent attack.'

That is transphobia.

Deliberately misgendering someone, or thinking you get to question others gender because they don't appear enough like a woman to you (as JK Rowling has done, accusing a woman boxer and various others of being trans, with no evidence) IS transphobia.

Being a trans-exclusionary feminist IS transphobia

JK Rowling using her fortune and noteriety to fund people through court who are trying to exclude trans people from spaces IS transphobia because she is specifically and repeatedly going after a vulnerable population.

Equating trans people to sexual predators or accusing them or sexual deviance IS transphobia.

The whole bathroom debate is madness because it is anti-feminist - it makes women less safe by creating a culture where we feel free to constantly question other people's gender and demand proof because they don't appear 'woman' enough to us - ie they don't conform to societal expectations of women. It creates danger for women who are deemed to have 'masculine' body types, facial hair such as through having PCOS etc.

Trans women do not make your bathrooms unsafe.

Dangerous men will do as they please regardless. They also now would be able to present themselves as being trans men using the women's bathroom, as now required by law, so you really haven't solved any problems this way!

JKR isn't transphobic. Stating biological reality isn't transphobic. You cannot change sex. You can live in your view of what in your head your think is the opposite sex, wear whatever you want, live your life. You cannot force others into not believing in biological reality.

We also all don’t all want to play the pronouns game. Our choice. Pick any of the hundreds of different pronouns you want, so what. Just don't expect others to do what you want.

Pingponghavoc · 09/09/2026 13:16

The purpose of womens public toilets is not to keep men safe from being attacked. Womens public toilets are not justify or designed around men's gender identity.

You've redefined the purpose of women public toilets and getting cross when reminded of the true purpose.

Saying “I don’t believe Catholic doctrine” is comparable to saying “I don’t believe gender identity corresponds to biological sex.” But Rowling repeatedly goes considerably further than that. She has described trans women as “men performing their idea of femaleness”, called a trans woman a “cosplaying man”, described recognising some trans women as women as a “foundational falsehood”, and repeatedly framed trans-inclusive policies in terms of men gaining access to women and providing “cover to predators”. The equivalent wouldn’t therefore be simply saying “I don’t believe Catholicism is true”. It would be repeatedly characterising Catholics themselves as pretending, fraudulent or dangerous.

So which of those statement is wrong?

Rollingpinofdoom · 09/09/2026 13:29

Mouldemort · 08/09/2026 19:03

Is your life devoted to excluding Muslims from public life? Do you post insulting slurs about Muslims and write articles about how Muslims have attacked you?

Gender critical people are entitled to their non-scientific protected belief that gender identity isn't real, as long as their beliefs don't unreasonably impact the lives of other people. You can believe that gender identity isn't real, or that homosexuality is an ideology - but don't discriminate in a public space or advocate for changing the law. That's what Rowling has done.

I don't have an issue with people being against abortion or being against gay marriage as long as they don't try to change the law or impose their views on others.

And trans people are perfectly within their rights to follow their non scientific belief in gender. SS long as they don’t demand anyone else follow that belief we should be all good. As long as they use any spaces or facilities relevant to their se, then what is the issue? As long as they don’t campaign to change the law or impose their views on others

Sartre · 09/09/2026 13:31

She has made it her whole personality which is quite exhausting and tedious. I feel a bit sorry for her in that sense. Whether you think she’s transphobic or just a feminist standing up for women’s rights, you have to admit she has fuck all else to say anymore.

I’d say they are quite entitled to campaign to change the law if they want. The problem activists seem to have is that when they do campaign, for example regarding the GRA, they highlight the issues surrounding for example single-sex spaces and most people go “hang on a minute.” What they would like to do it seems is change the law without considering anyone but themselves. (And preferably by the back door without anyone noticing).

Isn’t she still writing?

The Hallmarked Man (2025): The 8th Cormoran Strike novel.
Christmas at Hogwarts (2024): Illustrated holiday children's book.
From the Wizarding Archive (2024): Curated writings from the Wizarding World.
The Running Grave (2023): The 7th Cormoran Strike novel.

The Ink Black Heart (2022): The 6th Cormoran Strike novel.

This is saying more than most!

As for saying no to the bullying of women by a sub-set of men; and ‘no’ to the harming of children by making them think they are in the wrong body,

of course you have to keep on saying ‘no’ to those things.

People can’t change sex. Some spaces and services should be single-sex.

Whats to disagree with?

Not very many people understand transgenderism as being able to change the actual genetic sex written in your DNA. That's why it's called being transGENDER and transsexual isn't really used anymore.

But, like I said before, if you labour under the misapprehension that gender is not real because it's a social construct, then you can very much just write the whole thing off and tell yourself you're not transphobic because there's no such thing as gender so therefore there's no such thing as transgender, so therefore transphobia doesn't exist.

If you treat a trans person according to their birth sex in all settings where sex is relevant, then you are asking a trans person not to be trans in all public settings where being trans might be relevant.

Edited

If you treat a trans person according to their birth sex in all settings where sex is relevant, then you are

  • being honest with them / yourself / everyone else
  • respecting others who need sex separation - esp. women
  • building a stronger society
  • not pandering to delusional play-acting
  • not allowing a small, loud, sometimes vicious minority to dominate and intimidate others

you are asking a trans person not to be trans

But what does 'being trans' mean? as no man can ever be a woman and no woman can ever be a man, then you are asking the 'trans person' to not

  • play-act
  • pretend that they are something they are not
  • demand access to areas they have no right to (e.g. men demanding access to women's areas)
  • be aggressive with others / intimidate / demand what is not theirs / etc.

in all public settings where being trans might be relevant

how is 'being trans' ever relevant in a public space?
we have to ask what 'trans' is...

  • It is NOT a change of sex - men will always be men, women will always be women - biological fact.
  • It is NOT a change of gender - gender is society's snapshot stereotype of what a man or woman looks like. No-one can change gender - if they play to the stereotypes of the other sex by how they dress etc. then all they are doing is redefining the societal snapshot stereotype of their own sex (hence in Regency times, high heels would say - man - today's world, they say woman - the stereotype snapshot has changed, because habits changed).
  • It is NOT how you dress - a man wearing a skirt is not a woman, they are simply a man wearing a skirt - men wear sarongs in some cultures, kilts in others - wearing a skirt doesn't change your chromosomes.
  • It is NOT how you appear - a man with his bits chopped off is a butchered man - not a woman.
  • It is NOT in your name - Evelyn has historically been used as a boys name or a girls name as have many others - names are part of a society's continually changing landscape, if a man now says they are called Mary - that doesn't make them a woman.
  • It is NOT in your pronouns - pronouns are accurately based on sex which is immutable, anything else is inaccurate.
  • It is NOT in which toilet or changing room you use - you use the one suited to your sex - nice and easy
  • It is NOT in the sports team you can join - join the one that fits who you really are - boys with boys / girls with girls / either in a mixed sex team.
  • IT IS in mental health issues / gender dysphoria / etc. - which of course is not relevant in a public setting - it is something that should be dealt with in private by professionals who are there to help, it is a genuine issue for a number of people who need professional help.

So all that is needed is

  • Honesty in how all people are treated - always by their sex
  • Compassion for those who have genuine mental health needs

I don’t believe someone can change their sex. That being said I do believe that people can choose which gender they most associate with and use the correct pronouns.

I find JKR one issue mindset on the subject baffling and can only assume that it comes from a position of sneering bigotry. Someone using their vast wealth and influence to attack a marginalised group is frankly, abhorrent.

Someone can be a different ‘gender’ in the social sense of presenting as what is considered typical of a given sex. JK Rowling has never said she is against this. That is what ‘Wear what you want…etc’ means.

The problem comes when a person maintains their that gender presentation should be accepted in all contexts as actually being the sex it socially represents. For example a male with the gender identity of a woman expecting to be housed in a women’s prison, or attend meetings in a women’s rape crisis centre.

Then there is something like the horror of males with the gender identity of women claiming the right to chemically induce a form of lactation and start feeding babies.

The issue with your comment though is

  • She doesn't sneer
  • She is not a bigot
  • She is not attacking a marginalised group

She uses her wealth to protect a vulnerable group - women - with huge numbers of projects on record showing that she id single-handedly doing more for vulnerable women in the UK than any other individual...

As for her remarks on X etc. - they are calling the bluff of a bunch of misogynistic, bigots who think that they control the dialogue - she generally pricks their bloated conceit with clever ripostes - keep it up JKR!

Who is marginalised? As transmen are women and transwomen are men, which group is being marginalised? I agree, people can dress however they want, but as you acknowledge, people cannot change sex, so therefore must use any facilities and spaces relevant to their sex. This is JKR’s stance. What about what she is saying is wrong?

Well no. It’s trans activists who consistently advocated for changing the law. Campaigned to change the Equality Act. Campaigned to change the Gender Recognition Act. All based on their ideology. What Rowling has done is advocated that the law is enforced as it stands.

Indeed. Trans activists changed things to their agenda wanting sex based rights replaced with general ideology wants. It's caused lots of harm. (See other threads for the huge amount of damage done by gender ideology to children and women.)

Gradually things are returning to sex based rights as was, and as should be. People realised, that humouring and being kind, meant ever increasing demands, at the expense of others.

Young people are waking up to the lies they were fed about being able to change sex. The irreparable damage to bodies and mental health and wellbeing. It will be looked back on one day as abusive, as it rightly is.
