What has JK Rowling said or done that’s transphobic

1000 replies

Ducketta · 08/09/2026 13:26

Another thread has said that they don’t want their thread to be derailed. Y HK Rowling and morals, so I’ll start one. Can anyone please tell me what JK Rowling has ever said or done that’s transphobic? Please be specific and outline how she has been offensive to trans people and not just been protective women and girls hard fought right to separate single sex spaces.

I cannot find anything whatsoever that she has done wrong. Nothing. Nada. And yet this JK Rowling = queen of transphobia myth persists. And it’s bloody tiresome.

Perhaps the OP just wants another fresh debate on it? It's not like most things haven't been debated on here a hundred times before, is it?

There are literally posts in this thread denying that trans exists.

Did you actually read and understand that post?

Being gay is same sex attraction. We are all one of two sexes. If a male finds another male sexually attached, they are gay. Ditto for women. I’m not sure what part of this is not verifiable?

I'll make it simple for you. If a man says he is gay - how do you know he's telling the truth? What verifiable evidence do you have that he is gay? That is the point. If being trans is unverifiable as claimed then so is being gay. I'm not arguing that there aren't two sexes and that being gay is being same-sex attracted - I'm simply pointing out that the same arguments being used to 'prove' that being trans is unverifiable (and therefore not A Legitimate Thing) also apply to being gay.

BackToLurk · 10/09/2026 15:21

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 15:18

The question is how do you verify that they are sexually attracted to members of the same sex. There is no way to verify that - other than asking the question and believing them. Behaviour isn't even a verifiable indicator.

What would be a core element of 'feeling like a woman'?

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 15:19

backformoreofthesame · 10/09/2026 15:06

Not true

scientists are pretty sure that sexual orientation is measurable externally - based ( from memory ) on minor changes in eyes

Do you have a link to this groundbreaking study?

soddingspiderseason · 10/09/2026 15:19

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 15:03

Quite a lot of things are unverifiable by that metric. How would one prove to be gay for example? Being gay exists but we only have 'unverifiable' evidence that it exists.

But no one does deny that "trans" exists, in the sense of denying there are people who believe themsleves to be "trans". That is a strawman.

They simply disagree with what that means.

Is it "real" in the sense of an actual occurance of some mental element that is usually core to the self-identity of one sex occuring in the other? If so, that fundamentally changes the basis on which all of us understand ourselves. I think that isn't someting we can just hand wave past without interogating what it means for our understanidng of what is it to be a man or a woman at all.

Is it "real" in the sense of something like colourblindness, where something is wrong with the body's perception systems such that the individual's perception is exactly the experience a person without that broken sense would have were the world to actually be like that, but in reality the world is not like that, it's a faulty signal in the system. What the individual is experiencing the world to be is to them exactly the same experience as if it truly were, but this this does not align with reality as perceived by everyone else?

Is it "real" in the sense of a delusion akin to those experiened in psychosis - this time not a faulty signal about reality from the perception system to the mind but a flawed processing of the correct signals of reality in the mind?

Or is it "real" like a religion or a secular ideology is real, whereby individuals find or are brought up within a belief system that makes sense to explain their world experiences and deeply believe it to be true, but it is ultimately based on an external belief framework in which one places ones experiences rather than any "real" experience of the material or mental world?

Whether one or none are or all are actually true, these are all things that could exist in the world.

But actually being/becoming the opposite physical sex either through medical intevention or some metaphysical "body of Christ" sleight of hand? No.

So when people say "trans doesn't exist" - they aren't denying the exietnce of people who claim, many entirely genuinely, that they experience themselves as trans. They are simply saying since there is no basis on which one sex can physically transition to being the other sex, whatever the experience of "trans" is, because it is not actually becoming or in some metaphysical way being the opposite physical sex it doesn't change anything in our shared reality about the person's actual sex, their sex as others experience it, so we should not be treating it as if it does by opening up the language, protections and rights of physical sex to accomodate these "trans" identities.

Existing as the opposite sex in ones heads, even if due to "real" causes, is not the same as existing that way in the experiences of other people as well.

I don't think that's quite the same. If someone is gay they are sexually attracted to members of the same sex. That is a core element. What would be a comparable core element of 'feeling like a woman'?

er…. You do know the test for someone is gay is if they are attracted to people of the opposite sex? And there are actual psychological tests to prove homosexuality

I haven't said it's the same thing as being the opposite sex. It isn't. It is, however, a legitimate thing. The denial that trans exists is demonstrably batshit.

They aren't 'claiming to be trans' they are claiming 'to feel like women'. An entirely unverifiable claim.

you don't believe being trans is real, you don't believe it's legitimate, you have utter contempt for people who (in your mind) "claim to" have this experience.

What do you mean by 'being trans' in this sentence?

Pingponghavoc · 10/09/2026 15:00

Its a good social response, isn't it? Mocking men who are pushing boundaries around safeguarding, dignity and consent.

When women can see this behaviour and politicians and services providers are pretending not to see it, or in some cases support it, its a good way to bring attention to it.

Of course the men who participate in breaking boundary wont like it. But I dont like what they are doing, either.

When eddie izzard uses women toilets, I consider it my duty to inform others. If that mean me taking the piss out of him at the same time, so what?

BackToLurk · 10/09/2026 14:56

Lacksie · 10/09/2026 14:25

No trans women are not "mocking women" for being trans and describing their real experience of transness.

This is another great example of the transphobia. Utter denial, dismissal and contempt for the real experience of being trans. Portrayal of trans people as inherently threatening to women just for being trans, etc etc etc.

It's exhausting. Just say it with your chest - you don't believe being trans is real, you don't believe it's legitimate, you have utter contempt for people who (in your mind) "claim to" have this experience.

Stop complaining when other posters point out that you feel that way, everything you write makes it abundantly clear!

I have no control over what you choose to believe 💁

Ah but that’s the good thing isn’t it. You cannot control my (or any other persons) belief that TIM are men and TIF are women. And that really does upset a lot of TRA doesn’t it? I think that’s why they resort to death threats , rape threats, threats of violence and piss protests.

Rollingpinofdoom · 10/09/2026 14:53

Lacksie · 10/09/2026 14:47

They are though, aren’t they? I was taught that all the way back in school. Sex is what is observed at birth (the biological reality) and gender is how we identify or ‘feel’.

No that's far too simplistic.

So do please explain. What is gender if not how one “identifies”?

Lacksie · 10/09/2026 14:52

Thechickenhasmypillow · 10/09/2026 14:51

So you can cite source?

What do you mean cite a source? That was written by me.

Thechickenhasmypillow · 10/09/2026 14:51

Lacksie · 10/09/2026 14:45

To be clear none of that was written, edited or in anyway put through AI.

So you can cite source?

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 14:50

Rollingpinofdoom · 10/09/2026 13:58

So if trans is nothing to do with being the opposite sex, why do trans people insist on being allowed in to spaces designated for that are not for their sex? Why not use the mixed gender single sex spaces relevant to their sex?

Again you appear to be expecting me to take a position I don't have by wilfully (if I'm being generous) misunderstanding what I've written.

backformoreofthesame · 10/09/2026 14:49

Sex is objective

even people who don’t have simple XX or XY chromosomes are recognised as being either male or female with a disorder

so it’s really really really simple

how much gender , and what aspects of gender , may be innate is more nuanced - do female hormones make them less likely to abandon a child for example - but they certainly don’t mean women should be paid less and like to wear frilly knickers

Lacksie · 10/09/2026 14:48

Rollingpinofdoom · 10/09/2026 14:47

Sure buddy. You’ll be saying males can be women next 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have no control over what you choose to believe 💁
