What has JK Rowling said or done that’s transphobic

Another thread has said that they don’t want their thread to be derailed. Y HK Rowling and morals, so I’ll start one. Can anyone please tell me what JK Rowling has ever said or done that’s transphobic? Please be specific and outline how she has been offensive to trans people and not just been protective women and girls hard fought right to separate single sex spaces.

I cannot find anything whatsoever that she has done wrong. Nothing. Nada. And yet this JK Rowling = queen of transphobia myth persists. And it’s bloody tiresome.

This is a great example of the dismissal and the mocking ""but they reeeeeeeeeallllly want to, and they will be good, honest!"

No. It's a distillation of the core of all the actual arguments I have ever seen made for cross sex access, just without the mess of distractions, non-answers and insinuation.

Dismissal, on the other hand, is what you are doing when you claim that everyone who disagrees that all women should be redefined into whatever a trans identiyfing man believes "womanhood" to be are "transhobes". Only a lot less nasty.

But congratulations on a perfect 10 textbook attempt to negate about 80 lines of well argued points (and all the posts before as well) by taking exception to an expression in the last two lines that is frankly way milder than those you yourself deploy.

Bit of a shame really that it's so transparent what you are trying to do - kind of makes your whole position look weaker not stronger I'm afraid.

Word to the wise - if you really want to show me up you know what would do it delicously?

Make a good counterargument.

Maybe reply to one of those (many) other posts where I actually replied to you and asked you questions that frankly given what you advocate for you should be able to answer without any effort at all.

Because it's very telling how you only reply to me when I was posting to someone else entirely, but you thought you saw an opportunity to derail or distract from my content with tone policing.

Why would they want to fake it?

Indeed! You're almost there!

The claim by "I feel like a woman" by a man isn't unverifiable because we can't know whether he really feels that way, it's unverifiable because there is no way to "feel like a woman". Unless of course you have finally come up with what "feels like a woman" means.

I'm not arguing about that. I'm arguing that the claim being trans is unverifiable in a way that being gay is not. Both are unverifiable by the same metric. The fact that you cannot overcome this is your issue - not mine.

BackToLurk · 10/09/2026 15:44

(I sort of knew 'unverifiable' wasn't quite right, and I'd like to apologise to the group)

DialSquare · 10/09/2026 15:44

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 15:42

Be specific? What reaction couldn't be faked?

Why would they want to fake it?

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 15:42

By their reaction to the person they are attracted to. It’s not rocket science.

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 15:34

And how would they verify that information? I'm playing devil's advocate here. I'm not the one arguing that something doesn't exist unless it's unverifiable.

Being gay is measurable externally

you are spreading a lie to try and justify your beliefs

How is it measurable externally in a verifiable way? What beliefs do you think I'm justifying? I believe trans people exist. That? Really?

Not sure what being gay has to do with anything but you still felt the need to bring it up.

That was my fault. I made a typo. Ooops.

Not sure what being fat has to do with anything. But I'm glad you now accept that you don't need verifiable evidence to accept something exists.

Yea, I'm not sure you did understand the post by @FlirtsWithRhinos

ETA, if you ever come up with anything concrete that explains 'feels like a woman' do get in touch.

Edited

Oh yes. I’m waiting for that too.

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 15:34

Well I’m sure they would tell their friends who they are attracted to even if they haven’t been in a relationship. It’s an absolutely ridiculous comparison.

You’re saying well if he says he’s fat and sleeping with a woman he’s lying. I’d he says he’s gay and sleeping with a TIM, he’s telling the truth. Easy.

I responded to a post that said being trans is unverifiable. I have shown that by that metric being gay is also unverifiable. You and I both know what being gay is - we also both know what being trans is. You not accepting that people can feel that they are a different gender to their biological sex doesn't change that. Something that JK Rowling and I agree on.

So totally unverifiable evidence? Because just because someone says they are gay doesn't make them so. Behaviour is indicative but isn't verifiable evidence. And there is no pre-requisite to having been in a relationship to be gay - unless you're suggesting that anyone who hasn't been in a relationship doesn't have a sexual orientation?

Oooh I thought they were called asexual! Didn’t JKR get loads of grief because she said they weren’t oppressed?

backformoreofthesame · 10/09/2026 15:32

to assess someone’s sexuality - show them photos of men and women and watch how their pupils respond - they will respond (? Dilate ) to images that they feel attracted too and that’s how you can measure this without relying on reported feelings or actual behaviour. It’s an uncontrollable instinctive response

that’s how we know that many of the transgender people in places like Iran are actually gay - being gay is illegal but being transgender isn’t

that’s how we know the proportion of gay people is pretty constant across the world

there are no similar tests for transgenerism

I'll make it simple for you. If a man says he is gay we don't necessarily know he is telling the truth. What we do know though is what he means by that. He means he is sexually attracted to other men.
When a man says he 'feels like a woman' what does he mean by that? You're the one claiming this is comparable to being gay, so maybe you could explain.

I'll make it simple for you. If a man says he is gay - how do you know he's telling the truth? What verifiable evidence do you have that he is gay? That is the point. If being trans is unverifiable as claimed then so is being gay. I'm not arguing that there aren't two sexes and that being gay is being same-sex attracted - I'm simply pointing out that the same arguments being used to 'prove' that being trans is unverifiable (and therefore not A Legitimate Thing) also apply to being gay.

Are you seriously asking this question? Their romantic relationships and the people they say they are attracted to, will give you a clue to their sexuality.

The question is how do you verify that they are sexually attracted to members of the same sex. There is no way to verify that - other than asking the question and believing them. Behaviour isn't even a verifiable indicator.
