What has JK Rowling said or done that’s transphobic

Another thread has said that they don’t want their thread to be derailed. Y HK Rowling and morals, so I’ll start one. Can anyone please tell me what JK Rowling has ever said or done that’s transphobic? Please be specific and outline how she has been offensive to trans people and not just been protective women and girls hard fought right to separate single sex spaces.

I cannot find anything whatsoever that she has done wrong. Nothing. Nada. And yet this JK Rowling = queen of transphobia myth persists. And it’s bloody tiresome.

Well being gay used to be considered a mental illness. Then we recognised that actually a person could be gay and perfectly mentally well, being gay was just a characteristic/ feature of human diversity. A minority characteristic, but real and not really anything to do with mental wellness. Meanwhile, framing being gay as a mental illness was stigmatising and unnecessarily pathologising.

Edited

You’re the one who said transpeople were delusional and saw themselves as other than what they are…..

backformoreofthesame · 10/09/2026 16:11

Homosexuality is externally measurable
we can differentiate men who prefer men to men who prefer women

we don’t need to rely on what they tell us

but assuming we have to rely on their word AND actions - trust the actions more than the word

gay men sleep with other men / bit of a clue. Some don’t - they may still be gay but don’t want to be

transwomen behave like other men / they commit sexual offences like other men , they have physical strength advantages over women, they measure up like men

being Trans - thinking you are the other sex - well you really are selling transgender as a mental illness here.

think you are the queen? Ill. Think you are still
married to your ex? Ill. Think you are missing a leg? Ill. Think you are fat when you are skinny? The list is endless. Believing yourself to be something you are not is a form of mental illness.

There is no verifiable way of proving that homosexuality is a real sexuality - by the logic used to claim that being trans is a real state of being. You accept one because you accept what gay people tell you. You don't accept the other because you don't accept what trans people tell you. That doesn't require you to agree with them - but it does rather lay bare the evidence of transphobia.

Someone telling me they are gay means they are attracted to the same sex. Which is entirely possible.
Someone telling me they are trans means they think they are the opposite sex which is impossible.

What do you mean by ‘being trans’?

Thechickenhasmypillow · 10/09/2026 16:05

Open and closed questions.

Are you Gay?
Yes/no

What makes you feel like a woman?
Discussion. Reasoning. Feelz.

But homosexuality is a real sexuality. Changing sex isn’t possible. You can’t compare the two. Someone saying they are gay has no impact on anyone else and their partners/attractions will show their sexuality. Someone saying they are the opposite sex is more comparable to someone saying they are a different race or they are 20 years younger than they actually are. So no, I’m not almost there.

Homosexuality is real.

Being trans is real.

Being gay is to be attracted to someone of the same sex , notwithstanding the usual way of reproduction.

Being trans is to recognise oneself as being a sex other than is suggested by one's reproductive anatomy.

Sure, in much the same way as being insane is to recognise oneself as being Jesus Christ.

So being trans is like being anorexic? You recognise yourself as something you are not. Gotcha.

Being trans does not change one’s sex. So, they use the provision which matches their sex.

I don't think that's quite the same. If someone is gay they are sexually attracted to members of the same sex. That is a core element. What would be a comparable core element of 'feeling like a woman'?

That would be “feeling like someone with an adult human female body” which is definitionally untrue for a transwoman.

Yes and the test for whether someone is trans, is whether they recognise themselves to be other than the sex they were assigned at birth. There are actual psychological tests for this.

so in that case, why does everyone claiming to be trans not take this test? Then that works weed out those lying for nefarious reasons and everyone would be sure that those claiming to be trans truly were trans. Wasn’t there a university a few years ago saying they had a test for transness, but the TRA quashed it as it would be transphobic 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

FlirtsWithRhinos · 10/09/2026 15:53

No, there is a fundamental difference.

To be gay is simply to find the same sex attractive.

To be trans, if "trans" is anything other than a mental delusion or affection, requires that the meaning of Man and Woman is redefined for every single human on the planet, from something fundmentally physical to something at that has at least some fundmental elements that are mental.

That's a huge thing. It can't be accepted based purely on the trans person's self reporting because the very expereince of everyone else falsifies it.

As soon as a trans person describes their expereince of being a man or a woman, millions of other men or women can falsify it because the expereonce they describe is not in fact the same thing at all.

It only works if you change the meaning of the words. But the objective reality of physical sex is the same either way.

I'm sure that sounded very good in your head - but it isn't the case. To be gay is to be - as unverifiable as that is. To be trans is the same level of unverifiable. No need to change words or meanings - it just is.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/09/2026 15:57

Lacksie · 10/09/2026 14:18

The only "men" it was aimed at are those "who claim to be women". It was aimed at trans women.

Edited

You are under a misapprehension, I think. Not all the men who claim to be women are trans. It's really easy to utter the words "I identify as a woman" even if you don't and never have.

The men it is aimed at are the ones using and abusing the desire of trans-identifying men to be treated as if they were women, in order to gain access (by pretending also to be trans-identifying) to vulnerable women and children. They demonstrably are neither good nor honest, and every rape or sexual assault committed by one of them in what ought to be a safe space for a woman or a child is one too many.

And since it is not possible to identify a rapist or a sexual predator just by looking at him, women would prefer no man – no matter how much he wants to be identified to be a woman (for whatever reason) – to have free access to women's single sex spaces. Male rapists in women's prisons and male rapists in women's hospital wards and male rapists in women's changing rooms and male rapists in women's public lavatories are clearly a bad thing; and what is also bad is that they bring into disrepute non-rapist trans-identifying men, who do not deserve to be tarred with the same brush but inevitably will tend to be.

backformoreofthesame · 10/09/2026 15:57

You can measure that someone is gay without asking them questions
yoy can’t do that with transgender

and even if you could- as a group they ( M2F ) have the physical nature of men, they behave as a group like men so they can be transgender all they like but that does t mean what they think it means. Bluntly they are still men

BackToLurk · 10/09/2026 15:54

alcovecupboards · 10/09/2026 15:45

I'm not arguing about that. I'm arguing that the claim being trans is unverifiable in a way that being gay is not. Both are unverifiable by the same metric. The fact that you cannot overcome this is your issue - not mine.

It's not be unable to overcome anything. It's you unable to explain what 'feels like a woman' means. It was my post and I know what I meant by

They aren't 'claiming to be trans' they are claiming 'to feel like women'. An entirely unverifiable claim. There are many ways that we may be unable to verify the claim, but the biggest reason is that it is a claim without meaning. Unless of course you suddenly have come up with one. Although I fancy you will stick with trying to compare claiming to feel like a woman with claiming to be same-sex attracted and avoid the glaringly obvious fact that being woman isn't a feeling.
