ITV sacked him from The Voice, then decided to reframe it as; hes some kind of super coach Only they arent paying him properly ITV is notably having money problems, we know that from them axing their studio audiences for shows like Loose Women and Big Brother How amazing that we've still got celebs who can do this, without being 'media trained' aka *dull* 😬 (If you dont like celeb goss, thats fine, please do not bully me --for your lack of sparkle and joy--)

I have lot of adjectives about him, untrustworthy, a let down, a failure as a husband and father, immoral, disappointing

I work with people who are genuinely vile, you get spat at, kicked, punched, go in their dirty filthy homes and manage to tread in dog shit in their own homes, they're high on drugs or drunk, they smell, got no teeth, their kids are all in care, they're recidivists, they'll happily put nails in your car tyres so you are in danger when you leave (this has happened to me several times), they abuse and neglect their animals, they make their neighbours lives a misery, I could go on. Thats vile.

Trouble is on this forum, people dont seem to understand degrees of anything.

I was in the audience of The Voice a couple of years ago, and even then he had to be assisted to his seat, generally didn't seem to know what was going on most of the time, and I kind of felt sorry for this old man who would really have been more comfortable anywhere else. I'm not surprised there's an insurance risk, he didn't seem fit to be in the environment, let alone part of the show.

And yet I saw him perform a year ago at Colchester Castle and he was full of life and energy.

He even danced.

I always wondered how you could claim to love someone so dearly, and still be such a prolific cheat.

He did, its documented everywhere, not just from him.

But people are complicated. Its not so long ago, certainly on the continent, that most men were not faithful (in fact I dont know if that is still the case now really), but it doesnt mean he didnt love her. He was devastated when she died. Probably hugely guilty too, as he should be.

I saw him a few years ago (in his seventies) and he was great. Unlike a lot of his contemporaries he's still got a voice (Hello Elton) he's also been clever enough to do material that suits his voice - his blues album from a couple of years ago, "Praise and Blame" is nothing like his heyday stuff but it's really good.

He specifically states it's about the insurance. He's 86, he's probably uninsurable now, and that also might be off the back of a health check. A show that big has to have solid insurance because if filming goes to a standstill last minute because someone carks it, that can cause huge unexpected costs to pay everyone not to work and then extend filming schedules.

The same thing happened with NCIS employing & insuring David Mccallum as he was in his mid-to-late 80s & still playing an important character.

Dont we often separate the art from the artist? If you were young in the sixties, seventies or early eighties his affairs were very public.

I don’t like the behaviour but I adore his voice which is as good now as it was when he was in his twenties. And I enjoy him on the Voice probably the only reason I watch.

Tom is 86 but knows his stuff . I noticed a lot of the acts tend to pick the younger coaches though , which is a shame as Tom has the wisdom and experience to get them through it .

I think having standards is important. Standards shift over time. That means we don't necessarily want people who fail to meet current standards being lauded as rock gods. I am sure there are plenty of talented artists out there who don't have such a chequered past who could do with some limelight. If tom was a true mentor in the industry he would have suggested deserving others to take the place.

He’d have Key Man insurance against him (or would have done in the past). If he became unavailable due to ill health and production had to be halted, insurance pays out for studio costs, extending contracts, paying for a replacement (and associated costs of stylist, wardrobe etc). The older your Talent, the more likely this is to happen. Insurance companies might have refused to insure him and therefore the production is at risk. ITV / the production company clearly don’t want to take on that financial risk.

That makes more sense. Using insurance is an excuse is somewhat disingenuous, when the actual reason is they think the risk of him not being able to complete the job is too high.

Every time I see him I am reminded of my dear old Dad some daft mare once told him he looked like him and of course it went to his head. Every Christmas he got up to sing green green grass of bleeding home. Well he may have looked vaguely like him in a certain light but he couldn't sing like him silly old fool couldn't carry a tune in a bucket
