Masked men at Dover - KKK vibes

They are utter cowards and hypocritical. The same ilk will state they're against the burkha and protests by environmental groups etc. but are happy to mask their faces in 'protest' the reality is they're just nasty specimens of humanity, full of people with self righteous white supremacy tendencies. AIBU.

I don’t believe people who cover their face to protest have good intentions. They might plan to use violence or are actually pretenders looking to sully the cause.

I know that sometimes the government abuses power and people end up arrested unfairly. If a cause is just and people know they are protesting correctly, accepting those unfair consequences sometimes just has to be part of the protest. Seeing the injustice can help inspire the rest of the population.

Hardly. You do know that they weren’t all white men don’t you? My next door neighbour went with his brothers and they are Nigerian. Born in Nigeria by the way. He moved here in his early 20s. He has the St George’s flag flying on a flagpole in his back garden.

That's not what it says. A small sample of 5500 people would use the army to stop small boats. It's a question about methodology that could be employed IF you were to stop them. That's not the same as 59% of the country wanting to stop small boats.

I hate these thuggish protestors. If you're so sure you're right, you should have the courage to show your face.

But, this is how we estimate population views. Usually it's not as many as 5,000.

Supersimkin7 · Yesterday 15:39

Trying to pretend these protesters are nazi won’t wash. I don’t approve of them, but they’re pushing the majority view and they’re pretty harmless.

So you’re ok with pro pally /antifa thugs shouting abuse/ covering faces but these people who are protesting to stop the criminal treasonous abuse of our borders is thuggish —- hmmm ok then

Bet they were OK with the Black Panthers during the BLM riots as well.

Birdcatdog · Yesterday 15:37

I seen someone on social media saying they had been brought in as a distraction from the lastest Nigel/Reform financial scandal and i can well believe it

5500, of a population of 70 million, more than exceeds the minimum sample size needed to calculate popular sentiment.

I live in Kent and the sight of men all in black with their faces covered made me feel uneasy. Moseley and his black shirts sprang to mind. This was a show of force by the right and I don’t ever want it on our streets.

hotmumshit · Yesterday 15:33

Insanity. Thats the way the country is going. Those men wont all be street thugs either, they'll be men with jobs in the community.

you are answering your own question -
they would not have been given permission of any kind,
of course they wouldn’t
asking authoritative permission risks an authoritative No

But the pro Palestine marches, for example, or the marches against the Iraq war followed these laws and were allowed to go ahead. They still made headline news and drew attention and debate - both positive and negative - to their cause. I don’t see why these men couldn’t do the same.

TooBigForMyBoots · Yesterday 15:33

Not so much KKK, more Ulster Paramilitary organisation vibes.😬

TheFrendo · Yesterday 15:33

The wearing of a uniform for political reasons is illegal under the Public Order Act of 1936.

"Courts have ruled that coordinated clothing or matching items deliberately adopted by a group to show political association can qualify"

This appears to be unenforced.

This. People are generally very concerned about the continuing numbers of unvetted, young men coming from various countries where their cultural “values” are so different to ours.

these people are unskilled, uneducated and are very likely to be net takers from a UK that is already massively struggling financially. Servicing the UK debt is costing more than defence I believe! We simply cannot afford to accommodate all these people and there is the added danger from these men who have no understanding of consent it seems.

I’ve been saying for ages that I fear we will see increasing civil unrest and more right wing extremism. I really feel for the hard working migrant families that have made a life here who may now be targeted because of the problems caused by the small boat influx.

But of course, voicing these concerns makes me racist and no government seems willing or able to really tackle the influx.

Seemingly a perfect description of yesterday's comedy troupe of easily-led idiots in black 🤡

Everyone knows that it is only people that are up to no good, wearing balaclavas. See the recent behaviour in Middlesbrough and the recent BBC documentary on Glasgow. Balaclava sales have gone through the roof.

Visiblyabove25 · Yesterday 14:59

To take this good faith - why then did they not give the police advance notice so that the police could adequately allocate resources to support their protest? That’s what peaceful protestors do.

At the very best, these men were ignorant about our laws - which are there to protect the British public.

No different to the ProPally protesters.

OP’s KKK comparison is offensive - although the Pally lot might not think so with the anti-semitism similarity.

If you’ve been anywhere near Dover, you would understand that the police /
council would never authorise a protest in that area-
the impact that holds up to flow of traffic in/ out of that area are renowned -
the ferries / HGV’s etc etc

i would expect they would have been some side streets to protest in, well away from
any areas that would attract attention such a outside the port of Dover as they did

you can notify the authorities of a planned protest, but you cannot have any location by default -

im guessing but I would assume that they’ve gone for what would have brought most disruption / attention - cause disruption at the port
a bit like farmers driving tractors on the motorway to London
or the oil protesters lying on the roads blocking traffic / ambulances etc ..

Yes, because blocking infrastructure is wrong.

People do this at the Pro-Pal marches too. They use face masks or keffiyehs. It's very apparent at the campus protests too.

I think they're far worse to be honest. Calling for the destruction of an entire country of 10 million Jews and Arabs.

Can you really be surprised at people are angry OP? Given that we effectively have no border and our government does nothing. Surely you read the news. Every week it's horrifying after horrifying story in the papers. An OAP gets sodomized by an Eritrean migrant in a church yard in broad daylight? What did you think was going to happen. As the old adage goes, of reasonable people won't manage the border, unreasonable people will.

Prepare for civil war, basically..

Rise of parties and politicians in the UK specifically to represent Muslim interests doesn't seem particularly helpful either. The Balaclava men also seem a few steps away from becoming something akin to the Brown shirts.

Politicians need to get a grip and sort this country out

Was there public disorder or not?

No arrests were made
they were described as engaging with people who wished to talk to them

Having an opinion on world affairs is absolutely legitimate-
but saying people who are protesting for an issue in their community are thick is a stretch too far, when the issue does not impact you -

I have a feeling there’s similar issues where they are posting from.

So nobody can have an opinion on whats happening in another country?
I don't live in America but I have plenty of thoughts of what happens over there with Trump, ICE, the gun laws and so on...

I saw a stupid reporter on Sky news today referring to the men as "peaceful" because they were carrying bottles of water on a hot day! Despite the fact they're dressed as paramilitary in order to intimidate. How can people be so dumb?!!
