They are utter cowards and hypocritical. The same ilk will state they're against the burkha and protests by environmental groups etc. but are happy to mask their faces in 'protest' the reality is they're just nasty specimens of humanity, full of people with self righteous white supremacy tendencies. AIBU.

Not my style of protest
BUT
I get it, the masks and the uniformity of appearance because to speak out about the ongoing flow of male economic migrants from misogynistic cultures brings cries of racism and repercussions because of this -

But how do people in the UK who are concerned /
terrified of the loss of border control to illegal entrants get heard ?

i think most don’t want to vote Reform / Restore
most support legitimate asylum seekers particularly from the most vulnerable - children and women and feel utter despair about the invasion of men on the Kent coast

You do not know that they approve of misogynistic cultures. They may well be leaving precisely because they don't. It is likely that they are being sent on ahead to find a safe route for their families, women and children. It is very dangerous and physically impossible for young children, the old, women etc to cross borders of countries with no functioning government or where their families may already have been targeted by the rebels in a civil war.

In failed States where there is no functioning government people often have no birth certificates or passports. Rival criminal gangs are rife.

We have brought this problem on ourselves by people having no route to apply for asylum until they are physically here. They may well be coming from eg Afghanistan, a country where those who supported us are now in danger of being killed. (They may speak English which would make life easier for them than eg France or Germany. They may already have relations here. )

The next safe country to Afghanistan is Pakistan who have returned a million to Afghanistan where they are now in grave danger, no homes, no means of earning a living. Many will starve.

It is very difficult to imagine the horrors these people have endured. We had the same problems in WW2 where the Government wouldn't allow the opponents of Hitler to enter despite knowing that refusal meant certain death in concentration camps.

Many countries allow asylum seekers to work either immediately or very quickly.eg
Australia, Canada, Sweden, Portugal - almost immediately
Germany after 3 months
Belgium after 4 months
USA, Netherlands after 6 months.
It make no sense to keep them in poverty for years on end when they could /should be contributing to our country and both they and us would benefit.
NB We have a very low birth rate ( which will break this country in the future if we don't do something about it. Annual deaths are projected to outnumber births for the first time in modern history a 'baby bust'.( See the Government list of jobs where there is a shortage btw.)

Asylum seekers allowances.
( £49.18 a week for food, clothing, toiletries. Self catered accommodation £49.18 per person per week, Catered accommodation eg hotels (£9.50 per week. Pregnant women + £5.25 per week, Babies under 1 year old extra £9.50 per week, Children 1-3 extra £5.25 per week.)

Cost Repayment Law
Adults who are granted refugee status and find employment are required to repay upto £10,000 to the Home Office. ( Works similar to student loans. and must be paid off before the person can claim settled status.)

Because of the failure of government to protect us/our borders, I genuinely fear for my friends/colleagues from India, Pakistan and Africa who came here legitimately. I worry they are to become collateral damage with the rise of right.
People have become v worried about undocumented males roaming our streets.

Exactly being weak on it protects no one and helps no one and creates fear.

My friend’s brother has been in prison since before PA were designated as a terrorist organisation. I’m not sure what he did, other than attend a protest. It seems neither are the government as they haven’t brought him to trial as there is nothing a jury can convict him of.

Given that the government cannot hold you in prison beyond a short period without charging you, and after you've been charged its up to a judge to grant bail, or not. Given he's apparently been held for more than a year what has he been charged with? It must be pretty serious.

Cobrakainerd · Yesterday 16:30

I don't support them, but can see why they are doing it. Not keen on the 'black uniform' but I wonder how it was orchestrated.
Unfortunately years of government doing precisely what they want regardless of the infrastructure not being in place, people, particularly the lower socioeconomic sector feeling disenfranchised is going to create this.
We have a prison crisis, we have enough home grown criminals without importing the 3rd world's ones as well. We have a housing crisis, 1000s of people on waiting lists in every major town, yet accommodation is provided and once processed they join those lists.
We have a health crisis, NHS at breaking point.

We gave a education crisis, Schools are at breaking point, teachers leaving, SEN massively underfunded, kids in disruptive classes.
Yes, we know many sectors would collapse without immigrants but those same immigrants also are needing housing, healthcare, education, its a ponzi scheme.

The country is allegedly unable to afford to fund the infrastructure so common sense says restrict the need for additional infrastructure!
Unless the government get a grip and quickly, social media will provoke people who normally wouldn't pay attention to this type of protest to start to think they need to 'do something' . Conspiracy theories also get traction.

Stairlifter · Yesterday 16:30

Genuinely can't believe that so many are responding to 'Aren't the Dover protesters terrible?' with 'What about masked left wing protesters?'

Both are terrible!!! Condemn both!! Jesus Christ...

I do indeed see. I have my bingo card and it's almost full 😁

Funny how the leftists always have to turn to nasty insults regarding the working class.

Cringeworthy.

Its a scarf not a mask and the demonstrations I've been on no one covered their face with a Keffiyah, they wore them as scarves . But dont let the truth get in the way of your lies. And those old people sitting on the pavement with cardboard placards getting arrested, they had no balaclava or any masks, because they aren't cowards - like the thugs you admire.

They got arrested for a reason.

Freedom to protest is absolutely sacrosanct - covering faces with balaclavas is not protesting it's thuggery. Every protest in the last few years has not had that, that's a statement not based on fact. Your post has a tone of cynical whataboutery.

And also blocking access to critical infrastructure is way beyond the scope of peaceful protesting.

Pineneedlesincarpet · Yesterday 16:23

Boomer55 · Yesterday 16:20

No. I’m old enough to remember the civil rights movement in the USA. Thst was serious stuff.

This was just the usual ‘rent a mob’ that attend most protests - whether it’s oil, immigrants, any politics or whatever.

Not very bright, and slightly stupid.

Tbf writing "not very bright and slightly stupid" doesn't cast you in the best light intellectually yourself.

cariadlet · Yesterday 16:22

So start with the teenagers masked up and driving e-bikes, motorbikes etc, at speed through high streets up and down the land scaring OAP"s, they are a much bigger problem than a bunch of people making a peaceful protest about undocumented unidentified migrants breaking the law by arriving illegally by boat.

I said that I would ban the wearing of balaclavas and masks in public, other than face masks for medical reasons.

I didn't specify banning the wearing of those items only at demos so it would obviously include teenage thugs as well as the cowardly extremists from both the Far Left and the Far Right.

Unfortunately a majority of voters (probably mostly those more likely to support Reform/Restore) voted for the exact conditions which were the catalyst for the small boat trafficking - Brexit.

It’s an issue across most of Europe. Whether or not we had remained in the EU would have made little difference.

The majority of young men arriving here without papers are not refugees. They are not needed here, they are a drain on shrinking resources. I have young granddaughters, I don't want them exposed to men for whom a leaflet about unwanted sexual advances was deemed to be necessary.

Septembersunrays · Yesterday 16:20

I would have been absolutely terrified seeing that lot and not knowing what or who.

Apparently they didn't have any banners or let people know what they were doing ??

Poor people about to go on holiday as well getting that fright and all the other issues with ruining people's holidays and journeys.

I don't know whether it's correct but I did read that they were masked up to avoid surveilance but to also illustrate like with the men coming on boats, we don't know who they are ? Could be wrong.

I without a doubt think we need urgent action on the boats but this for me was a step too far.

Let's hope Burnham gets a grip where others have failed.

I havent seen pro palestine demonstrators with balaclavas on

No, they tend to cover their faces with Keffiyeh instead.

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 16:17

I do.

i object to any man or woman covering their face whether for religious or political reasons.

Human interaction relies heavily on facial expressions and non-verbal cues. Masking the face can be seen as creating a barrier to trust, social connection, and integration within a community.

Consequently, I don’t trust anyone who attends a demonstration of any political persuasion who wears a mask. We are in a democracy, you don’t need to hide your face unless you have nefarious reasons.
A woman wearing a burqa is being denied agency; she is being intentionally isolated and denied integration and controlled by men.

Agree with all of this.
